Named after the world’s most widely recognized five-note music scale,Pentatonix is a five-person a American a cappella group that began with three friends Kirstie Maldonado, Mitch Grassi, and Scott Hoying at Martin High School in Arlington, Texas. Pentatonix consists of Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado, Mitch Grassi, Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola. The trio of the group, Scott, Kristin, and Mitch, are more of the harmony. Kevin and Avi are the rhythm portion. Scott Hoying is a baritone, Kristin Maldonado is a mezzo soprano, Mitch is a counter tenor, Kevin is percussion and Avi is bass. Pentatonix are known for winning NBC's show the third season of “The Sing-Off” in 2011, their victory earning them $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony’s
