Panama For my International festival project I will be doing Panama. The reason why I chose Panama is because I wanted to learn a little more about it. Also lots of families live there. The Indians are one of the main topics that I really wanted to learn about. I love to learn more and more about their customs, religions, geography, people, and the many other new things about Panama. I just love how God made that country, It is so beautiful and all of the people there are kind and loving. So I hope you like what I have to say about the country Panama. So first up, on the topic of Panama, is its Absolute location and It relative location. The absolute location of Panama is 8.53° N, 80.78° W.It is located in Central America and it is an Isthmus. …show more content…
There are more than 10,000 species of plants in Panama’s rainforests. Panama's country flower is the Orchid. They call this flower,” the Flower of the Holy spirit”. This beautiful flower grows in warm climates and their are few species. That is just one out of the many different types of beautiful flowers in Panama. All of the plants in Panama are topical. Panama’s beginning history I very interesting.1501 was first discovered by a Spanish explorer Rodrigo de Bastidas( They did not find very much gold there so Panama was not very important to Spain). 1822 was when Panama became independent from Spain and at the time was a part of Gran Columbia. November 3, 1903 is when they became independent from Columbia. This is also when they started the Panama Canal. So as I said before the Panama canal was started 1903. It was President Theodore Roosevelt(26th president of the United States) idea. America and Britain needed, and wanted to ship good fast and cheap between the pacific and the Atlantic ocean. So they started to ask people to dig for them. About 22,000 people died and 5,609 out of the 22,000 died from different diseases. It is about 48 miles long, 41.2 ft deep, and 52 million gallons of water are in it. It takes about 8-10 hours for a boat to pass through it. And it also runs right past the capital, Panama city, because that is where a lot of ships go out. The Panama Canal is the highest tourist attraction in
Before they could begin building the Panama Canal they had to get permission from the Columbians to use their land to build on, but the Columbians refused to sign the agreement. Then the U.S. sent soldiers to Panama to help Panama gain their Independence. The Columbians could not beat the U.S., so Panama gained their
WHAT: After U.S intervention into Panama, the U.S. had the want, the will, and the power to finish the canal which the French had started in 1881 and abandoned in 1894. The U.S. Began construction of the canal in 1904 under
Panama Canal begins being built in 1904. It represents how powerful, inventive, and capable America
The workers started off by creating a railroad to cross over and deliver items/tools for the workers to use, while building the canal. They have to dig through the jungle and flatten out land. Once they were done with that they would dig and make river and stream holes. The workers would blow up the land connection to the river/stream hole to the ocean. That is so the water could get through the continent. Most of the workers came from African Areas or South America Areas. TNT (the bomb) was the object the workers would use to blow up the river/stream hold to the ocean.
Roosevelt felt strongly about trade throughout the world. In 1904 the Isthmus of Panama was first broken by American shovel. After months of negotiation, the Latin American government allowed the creation of the Panama Canal. The U.S. military and other volunteers did most of the work. But because of Yellow Fever and Malaria , few workers returned. In 1914 the Canal Zone was finished and for the first time the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans were flowing together.
Honduras is a vibrant country, offering crystalline blue waters, breathtaking jungles, and eye opening mountains. The Republic of Honduras is located in the northern part of the Central America. Honduras was once part of Spain’s great empire. The country triumphed to the end and became an independent nation in 1823. Honduras is a country with rich historical backgrounds. The country of Honduras is the second-largest country in Central America. Even though the Republic of Honduras is facing financial hardships, the country, however, is very culturally driven, making this country a hidden diamond for many. In this research paper I plan to focus on the history, geography, culture and the economical
Known as one of the greatest engineering feats in all of history, the Panama Canal is an essential asset for international trade and travel today, uniting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans across the Central American Isthmus in Panama, Colombia. Its construction required the perseverance, innovation, time and money of at first, France and of second, America. Construction began with Frenchman, Ferdinand de Lesseps at the helm of the project in the early 1880’s; however, dreams of a Central American canal were had as early as the 1500’s with the Spanish and Christopher Columbus. His plan was to dig a sea level canal, similar to a successful one he had made previously. But after nearly 8 years of futile labor, and lack of progress, Lesseps
The United States built the Panama Canal. The canal was a fifty-mile-long passage that created a shortcut for ships. It cut through the Central American nation of Panama and linked the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. “It was an incredible project, the largest public construction project in US history. The engineering, technical, medical, and scientific challenges were incredible, first having to get disease under control and then figure out whether it should be a sea-level or a lock canal. It was forty miles long and literally cut through the continental divide, so it was extremely difficult” (Greene). The construction of the Panama Canal strengthened the economic dominance, and the rise of the United States naval power in the Western Hemisphere, accomplishing a long-awaited dream to create a route that allowed ships to move easily between the two great oceans.
Also, the Panama Canal was very different compared to other events or inventions that happened in history. While in the making of the Panama Canal, it was the first time that the President had left the country. President Roosevelt was the first to leave the United States, while in office to go to Panama and to see how the canal was going. Then, it was also the first time that a lock canal was ever attempted to be made. To be able to pass the mountains of culebra they had to build a lock canal. In addition, there was also a bloodless revolution when Panama was gaining its independence from
Back in 1697 when the island of Hispaniola was divided for possession by the France who took over the western side, and Spain who ruled over the eastern side.
Gradually, Hawaii become one of the fifty states of the United States and helped its intervention and development through land. In 1914, the Panama Canal was established which was is an artificial 48 miles waterway in Panama that connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean. The United States took over the project of 1904 and completed them on 1914, but the idea affected positively to the sustainable development of the nation. The Panama route enhances environmental contribution by reducing GHG emissions on the planet with more efficient transport, reducing fuel consumption per cargo unit and fewer emissions than other routes that combine transportation by
The Panama Canal is possibly one of the most well known man made geographic features ever. Only five days after the U.S. secured Panama's independence from Columbia, the first canal treaty was signed with the United States. Signing the treaty
One of America's most prominent social activists, Jane Addams dedicated her whole life to the poor and social reform. Born on September 6, 1860 in Cedarville, Illinois, Jane grew up to become one of the most notable college-educated women of her time. Utilizing her education, Addams developed her own political and social beliefs and applied them to society during the Progressive Era, leading to many reforms that have shaped our world today.
The canal was the best thing that ever happened to Panama. The Panama Canal was started under President Roosevelt and completed by his successor, William Howard Taft. The canal was built across an isthmus, a narrow body of land that connects two larger land areas, which connects North and South America. In some places in Panama the isthmus is only 50 miles across. The French started the canal in the late 1800’s. They had just built the then famous Suez Canal with relative ease. The Suez Canal, unlike the Panama Canal, was a straight canal on level ground, in a relatively dry climate. The French had failed in building the Panama Canal because of the tropical climate, in which deadly tropical diseases consumed their
Some information I found interesting/surprising about Panama was that it was more unlikely for people to be unemployed than in the U.S., people are 43.84% less likely to be in prison, and that you would pay 91.87% less money on health care. I would not like to live in Panama, because in Panama you would have a higher chance to die in infancy, higher chance to get killed, be more likely to have HIV/AIDS, and you would make less money in
