Gratton HUM/186 December 4th, 2017 Allyson Wells Mass media has come a long way from where it first started, from someone belting out the news, to the written form of mass media such as the newspaper where it could reach the masses and inform them of what is going on around them, to the now where most news are obtain using the internet via smart phone, tablet or television, as along as an individual has Wi-Fi, internet service they can obtain their desired information from anywhere in the world. There are different types of mass media outlets and with those outlets come different mass cultural products. In this essay we will tackle three of those products, one is a reality show, a book and a worldwide Interactive expressive tool. Each of these comes through a different mass media venue but they also have impacted the culture of today. We first start with the reality show “Keeping up with the Kardashians”, this specific reality show was not the first of its kind nor will it be the last but it has impacted the social culture and its values of today. For the writer of this essay, this particular show seem enticing and entertaining for a little while, one way in which this show influenced the writer is the way the stars of the show dressed, their fashion and decorating style, another way is that they seemed proud of their non conventional beauty, making it acceptable to encourage and love the curves of the female

Media is everywhere. Television, newspaper, cell phones, movies, as well as numerous other sources. Today, just about everyone depends on information and communication to keep their lives moving through daily activities. We need to be aware that the values we hold, the beliefs we harbor and the decisions we make are based on our assumptions, our experiences, our education and what we know for a fact. Mass media is relied on for the current news and facts about what is important and what we should be aware of. Media is considered a trustworthy source for news, information, education and entertainment. Though someone has to have thought behind an issue to write it.
Mass media is communication that reaches a large audience. This includes television, advertisement, the Internet, newspapers, and so on. Mass media is a significant effect in modern culture in America. It creates ideas and sustained within society not only send ideological messages out to the public but to advertise this ideas which are tend to manipulate our mantalities.
The media post news stories daily about ways to loose weight, ways to be more energized, and many other stories that claim doing something will lead to an outcome everyone wants. However, the media often times takes scientific studies, and post what they want the viewers to believe out of the study. Sometimes the media is correct and other times they have completely turned the studies around. When looking at a media claim the actually study is usually mentioned but not shown. If viewers wanted, they could look up the original study to compare if it is true with the claim or not. This paper will address three media studies that are compared with their original study to see if the media claim is true or falsely advertised.
Society embraces the systems and symbols created to communicate in the search of belonging. The systems and symbols are used to convey information and assigns meaning and values to our lives. Often culture is defined as the symbols society uses to express themselves as individuals or groups. Culture is the practice that allows individuals to either agree or disagree with the values and ideas that are portrayed and communication helps to circulate these values.
The new era of technology led to major developments in the evolution of mass media, worldwide. In our society, we originally communicated orally before the Internet and wireless devices existed. Individuals relied on traditional forms of mass media, such as the television, radio, newspapers, and magazines, to attain knowledge of the outside world. Thereafter, the development of new forms mass media evolved, and we were introduced to the Internet and other wireless communication devices such as IPads and tablets, smart phones and social media sites. Regardless of the rise and fall in popularity of certain forms of mass media, the evolution of mass media influenced the American culture greatly.
The mass media has become a big part of our society and its counterparts. In a time span of 50 years this medium has influenced society to an extent where it has created wonders. This immaculate tool can control almost every action we perform, from speaking to the actions that every human being performs in society. The mass media has brought upon a new era of idea's and changes in the world we live in. As we analysis media in depth we will find many aspects of media which overlap and some of the smallest factors and aspects of media, which create the biggest impact on society.
The world around us is always changing, they may be subtle changes at first and gradually changing over time. If you think about when you were younger or even before; when your parents were, you’ll remember how the first televisions was this big box that showed moving pictures in black and white. In this time of age, you will see how drastically a television is from the first one. We now have flat screen televisions with color! Of course, this does not happen overnight. Television has a lot of influence on a person, it starts from when we are young. When newer forms of technology began to modify the older versions like the arrival of the internet the media professionals called it convergence. (Campbell, Martin, & Fabos, 2016, )There are a few phases in which all the changes happened. The first two era have to do with oral and written communication. Which of course is still in play today.

Internet media can also attain mass media status, and many media outlets maintain a web presence to take advantage of the ready availability of Internet in many regions of the world. Some people also refer to it as the “mainstream media,” referencing the fact that it tends to stick to prominent stories which will be of interest to a general audience, sometimes ignoring controversial breaking news. Per the British dictionary, mass media is defined as the means of communication that reaches a significant number people in a short amount of time, by way of, newspapers, television, magazines, and radios.
What is mass media? It is any means of “communication intended to reach a general, public audience” (Coleman).The forms of communication extending to the masses has significantly changed throughout the existence of man. Media outlets have changed the way messages are delivered outside of interpersonal communication. Instead of one person telling another to relay a message, or tell multiple people, the range of methods to reach thousands, and millions of people has become critically simple. Mass media includes but not limited to: newspapers, magazines, billboards, and social media. These tools of communication were the offspring of the first print media, the printing press.
