Conversations in class were a huge contributor to never getting anything done. Whether the conversation was about when our next food day would be or the outfit she was wearing, it was never important. These conversations did not encourage a positive learning environment and certainly did not reflect into our education well. Students should have liked her better considering that she acted like a friend to many of us. One of the things I hate most is when adults try to be friends with teenagers in inappropriate situations, such as at school where the adult should hold a higher standard of professionalism. There is a difference between having fun with students and losing all authority over them. She is lucky that any students listened to her towards the end of the year because most students would not have been mature enough to behave without a teacher disciplining them. She never threatened detention and she definitely did not give a reason to respect her. So, it actually seems like a miracle that the class was not complete chaos. It could have been much worse if we were not such respectful students. Ms. Fetterman should have been a role model as well as a teacher, and she failed at both tasks. Since she lost respect from her students they no longer put in effort towards her classwork, which ultimately lead to a decline in students’ performance in school. The only effort put into her class was fueled purely by that individual’s desire to learn, despite no motivation to do so from Ms.

Mrs. Schonhoff has been a never ending support system during the entire duration of my high school career, it doesn’t matter if it was a school or personal problem, she’s always there with advice, a sarcastic comment, or a hug. She not only has helped me to be a better writer, but she has helped me to become the person that I am today. She taught me it was okay to laugh at myself and not to stress about every single detail in life or school. After spending at least some time in her classroom for the past four years, I can wholeheartedly say she is more than just an English teacher and she has made an everlasting impact on my life. It’s going to be so strange not being able to go to her classroom whenever I need a pick me up.

Mr. Wray was the first teacher and the only male teacher I observed. The class was a 7th grade Social Studies academy class. Throughout the observation I noticed he really cares about his students. He took his time going over the topic of discussion, and when some of the students couldn’t catch on he stopped to help the individuals. His class was very well behaved. The only time I really noticed any of the students socializing were when Mr. Wray put them in groups to complete a study guide. The second teacher I observed was 6th grade teacher Mrs. Dunn. She was teaching English to her students. She went over verb phrases and helping verbs throughout the class. I noticed whenever she asked questions quite a few of the students participated by answering. Mrs. Dunn had a positive attitude throughout the class period. I felt she truly enjoyed all her students and treated them the same. Even when some of the students didn’t answer questions correctly she didn’t make them feel dumb. She would just tell them good try. I could tell her students really liked her as a teacher also. The last teacher I observed at Westside Junior High was 7th grade Science teacher Mrs. Dugas. This lady came off as a very strict teacher compared to the other two I had observed. Her students were very talkative, which only made her become more annoyed when having to fuss at them. I remember going into Ms. Blackmore’s office to go over my first big English paper as a middle school student. I was so nervous my hands were clammy and my knees were shaking. I had heard so much about Ms. Blackmore and most of it was bad. I heard she was very cruel when it came to critiquing papers and I could only imagine what she was going to do when she read over my paper. As she stared at it for what seemed like an eternity, she screeched out the worst laugh I have ever heard. It wasn’t like she was laughing because she thought it was funny she was laughing because how pathetic it was. I felt absolutely awful because I knew the grade wasn’t going to be pretty and Ms. Blackmore thought I was an idiot.

Russell was such a good teacher. An individual who walked into her class on any given day would realize the amount of time she dedicates into a single class period. She opens every tab necessary on her computer before class for the lesson in order to not waste a second of time. Generally, she had about ten tabs open. My class completed several activities a day, and she knew exactly which order to assign them in and how long the class would need for each one. It seems like a characteristic any teacher should have, but I do not think I have ever been taught by a teacher that put so much planning into her lessons. She constantly grades papers in order to get grades in as soon as possible; my friends and I have observed her grading at several events, including pep rallies and basketball games. She grades so much that she has developed a neck injury from looking down at her desk so much. I remember her saying during class one day, “If I start crying, don’t worry; my neck is in a lot of pain from grading your papers, but I’ll be fine”. Most teachers would take the day off or sit down or something, but not Mrs. Russell. If she took a day off, I knew something was seriously wrong. It usually included the hospital.
