Another change that occurred during the Italian Renaissance was the artistic perspective of this world. People were no longer painting two dimensional art, and non logical portraits. A new technique, chiaroscuros a technique that involved light and shadows, gave their paintings more depth and a realistic imagery. They also made their paintings more realistic by making the objects relative to one another. They emphasised emotions and belief in a universe full of harmony.

The era of Renaissance art produce some of the most famous works of art that we’ve seen during our lifetimes. Dutch or Northern Renaissance art like Italian both included various forms of portraits that express variations of human behaviors. The styles were a bit different as Italian focused on linear perspective and Dutch was more focused on attention to detail and making them lifelike. Both used oil based paints however, Italian Renaissance art was more mythical and religious whereas Dutch were more landscapes, portraits, and scenic displays. The major difference between the two was how they portrayed the imaged of people in the paintings which could be interpreted in various ways and provide a lot of areas of discussion with the differences

The Renaissance was a time of “rebirth” which was the creation of new arts, ideas, beliefs, and religions in Europe. Although the renaissance started in Italy, the ideas of the Renaissance spread throughout Europe and soon moved to the west. The renaissance is thought to have begun on 1300 AD, in Florence Italy. Some famous contributors of the renaissance are Leonardo Da Vinci who created new ideas in paintings, mathematics, architecture, inventions, anatomy, and sculpture. Another contributor was Galileo Galilei, the most famous astronomer up to date who bought up new ideas in astronomy and the “outside world”.

Italian Renaissance revealed more of the humans that most of their art revolved around them nature, and reality painting nude and so forth. The Italian was more of real life art that looked real like I mention. They focused on beauty, mind, and power of humans. I did see how they felt that GOD was important, and people should have a relationship to their faith. Art was more of commissioned by the Catholic Church I think that it was more of seeing a visual picture for the artist. They wanted more than a painting they wanted it to come to life

In tenth grade, I was given the opportunity to travel to Italy for ten days. While I delighted my tastebuds with all kinds of Italian cuisine, my brain feasted on an abundance of knowledge presented in architecture, history, art, and inventions; most of which emerged during the Italian Renaissance. The Renaissance was a time period concerned with exploring the unknown, expressing creativity by means of art, and using imagination, as well as intellectual curiosity to create techniques and theories. For these reasons, if I were capable of traveling back in time, I would visit the time period of the Italian Renaissance.

It is strange and interesting how such a significant cultural change and achievements could be accomplished in the middle ages and early modern Europe. Such Imaginative, and intelligent mind were born in the area. Such as Leonardo da vinci, Michelangelo, William Shakespeare, and none other than Christopher Columbus. Many of these people were famous for their artwork and sculptures and how ingenious and innovative they were, for some for the things they found or created. Leonardo da vinci created the Mona lisa and also the last supper and many more excellent works of art. Which is still critically acclaimed as a marvelous work of art

The next part of the job was the various materials and tools. The types of paints that artists used were oil, berry-dye, and watercolor paints. Their brushed were made of wood and animal hair. The paint was usually made of egg yolk and pigment, which dried very quickly once put to paper. The final part of the job of a medieval artist is the earnings and what they did with it.

During the 14th to 17th centuries, many technologies, sciences, mathematics and philosophy were rediscovered and art flourished during this time. Artists broke away from the Byzantine Greek Style of painting. New methods of painting were created such as oil, frescos and tempera paints.

Drawing is one of the best forms for an artist to express themselves and their emotions. During the Italian Renaissance drawing started to have a new meaning in the world of art. The most famous artist during the Italian Renaissance is Giorgio Vasari. In the Middle Ages including the Italian Renaissance many artworks remained unfinished. They are used to give glimpses of the role that particular drawing was used for. An example would be an unfinished choir book from earlier in the 15th century is an example of a phenomenon (1999.391). Later on in the Middle Ages many drawings became useful to illustrate the scientific and scholarly works of scientists. For example a professor wrote a text about the birth of Christ and then drew it.

In the painting I chose, you can see a hint of a smile on Cecilia’s lips as she looks at something the viewer cannot see. Artists started using new techniques to make their art look more realistic. Perspective was a huge role to transform a regular painting into a more 3-dimensional looking one. This made it look like you were actually in the painting, for example something that is farther away will look smaller than something right next to you. The subjects in “The Lady and the Ermine” are in ¾ view, which demonstrates the use of perspective. Balance and proportion were also important; this is when drawing subjects are the correct size when compared to each other. As you can see, the ermine is the proper size compared to the lady. Many artists also starting using light and shadows, or also known as “chiaroscuro”, in their works to add drama, perspective, and timing to their art. Leonardo showed this very well in all his paintings, not just in the one I chose. The shadows are very evident in this painting, Leonardo even went as far as adding shadows to the creases in Cecilia 's fingers. In 1470 oil paint was brought to Italy, and artists started using them due to their beautiful rich color, which helped increase detail and depth. In addition, in paintings textures and patterns had started to appear. I you look at the painting I chose, you can see that there are patterns and designs on the lady’s dress, and you can see

Occurring after the Medieval Period, it is often considered to be the bridge to modern day history as we know it. It was period of change, revival, and great augmentation for society. With the Middle Ages coming to an end and with the intellectual decline that had followed, scholars and thinkers alike began to study the ideals of ancient philosophers of the classical world, most prominently the Greeks and Romans, a time of great innovation and high human achievement, the likes of Humanism that hadn’t been seen for centuries.
