In the past, I have always thought of style as an acquired skill. The author of this article immediately shoots this belief down by saying that style is not something you have or don't have. Rather style a way of expressing your attitude and feelings about a topic. The author then breaks down the eight guidelines of writing in "plain style". Some of these guidelines will be useful for constructing my final draft this week. For example, stating the action in the verb is something I need to review. In many of my sentences, I overuse helping verbs and keep the action verb too far from the subject. I will analyze if any of my sentences sound redundant or if they are too lengthy also. I will be keeping this chapter near me as I proceed to finish
1. The paragraph says that it is difficult to write in a good style, and requires a lot of work. The author mentions that writing in a true style is just like regular talking or chatting, not taking a lot of complicated work. The author also mentions that you must try to be as unbiased and go the way that everybody can understand the author’s true meaning. He claims writing with big words is hard, and says he objects to authors like Dr. Johnson because all he or she uses is overblown words to possibly show off.
To explain my type of writing it is defiantly free writing style, like myself spontaneous. As I start off writing and get my groove going words just creatively flow. I may have to start over a few times, or rework the beginning but then it becomes more of a natural flow. I prefer to write about things I have experienced, fun things I enjoy, and do so with a comic approach. I do not like to take life too serious and am a spontaneous, adventurous, and fun-loving person. I have a huge personality that usually does come out in my writing, as most of you that have been on this journey from day one with me know.
This has been quite the experience so far. I have been able to comprehend and employ new methods of writing. These exercises have enabled me to look beyond the paper and really establish a style. I have never dreamed of outlining a paper or essay before. But with you challenges of doing so, has made the whole process make sense in as scene.
Most of us were in a situation when we had to say: “I am not too good at it.”, or “I can try, but it is not my field”. For example, somebody will ask me to draw a picture of a cat. I will try. I have seen cats before, know how to operate a pencil, have a flat piece of paper. I am even passing by art gallery on the regular basis, on my way to work. But I still cannot be sure you will not mistake my picture of a cat for a picture of a tractor or an intergalactic battlefield scene. That is how I feel about assignment to write about my writing process. So far, mine I can divide in three steps.
America is a place full of immigrants with no single ethnicity or race. America can also be referred to as the ?Melting Pot? because it consists ingredients of multicultural backgrounds. There are cultures such as French American, Asian American, Italian American and African American. I am Mexican American. My culture has helped me to become the writer I am today. My bicultural background and constant moving back and forth from Mexico to America has both influenced and weakened my writing. Although I was born in America, my Mexican culture has always been a part of my life. I have spent the majority of my life in Mexico, and Spanish is my first
All my life I have struggled with English due to the fact that I did not learn English till the age of seven as it was not first language. Programs like ESL have helped me improve my English tremendously through high school. Over these past two quarters in college, I learned to improve my writing more than ever, as I have learned that there is no limit in writing. I was able to learn strategies that helped me improve my essays. Over the course of this quarter I was able to learn many new strategies that will help me write my future papers efficiently. I have also learned my strengths and weakness. This quarter I have learned the importance of writing. Throughout high school, I dreaded writing essays, due to the fact that I was not good at it. However, this quarter, writing 20 has changed my opinion on that.
All the outcomes are clear and I like how we are expected to reach them. I am a little bit scared with the grammar part and the specific skills that I should develop for this course. My writing skills are not the best’s, since English is not my first language. I love to read, and since I moved to US I started doing it in English. This is helping me to have a better understanding of the language, but I haven’t be paying attention to the writing. I hope to develop the good skills writing that are expected from me.
My writing skills developed drastically. I went into elementary school not knowing a word of English becuase my parents spoke Cantonese at home. Therefore, I struggled in elementary and middle school. However, the teachers at my high school have taught me amply. Therefore, English is a strong subject of mine. I learns the conventions of writing a well-structured and drive essay. However, I struggle in communicating. For example, I am slightly fearful of presenting, but I push myself into producing well-developed lessons. Additionally, I rely heavily off a script and is a skill I am actively working to
I relate to this quote by Brandon A. Trean because to me photography and writing are sort of similar. There can be a 100,000 meanings and things going on in a photo as there can be on a page. Writing and pictures capture moments and feelings that can make the person reading or looking feel as if they were at that place and feeling those emotions, that's why I enjoy writing.
One individual can change the world with a well-written essay. Essays are the combination of 26 letters to make words that form sentences and then paragraphs in a structured form depending on the style of writing. I have been fascinated with writing since elementary school. Writing has been my outlet for many years and something I have enjoyed. As time progressed, lost the time to sit down and write, but during the course of ENGL 1101, I have had the time for my favorite hobby in the present. I have learned many new techniques to better my writing and became a more successful student in the course of ten weeks.
Throughout this semester, I feel that I have learned a lot about the subject and about my own writing skills as well. I feel that during in class discussions I am polite and cooperate by giving my input on discussion topics with my classmates. There may have been a few times where I have spoken out of turn, but I am sure it was not on purpose, but out of eagerness to speak out about the topic. Although sometimes my opinions about the discussions were not voiced, they were thought about carefully in my head and outside of class. The reason is I am an introvert person so I am kind of listener more. Occasionally, I am not comfortable and feel anxious when I have to speak up in front of a large group of people. Moreover, I am not a quick responder;
Writing is a place where you can get lost to create stories or grab attention for an audience. However, writing can be done pretty much anywhere and by anybody. For me, I can say writing has provided me many open doors. Helping me to get closure from my father, gained positive aspects, and in some areas, I struggled. But writing is an influence that you must have because it brings out the inner part of you to rise above. Like maybe you can't specifically say it to a particular person. Where as to me I've been in that situation but I've found it easier to write to them. Providing a sense of you going out of the way to provide time to write to them means a lot to a particular person or for me. Sometimes writing is a place where I can get lost or maybe find my weaknesses and strengths overall writing has influenced me to do good.
Over the course of my studies at university, I have grown and learned more about academic writing and numerous writing styles. I believe there is so much room for me to master my writing skills to succeed and complete my degree and improve my academic writing and personal skills through more practice. However, I have become concerned with my first attempt submitting my piece of paper through the online test in the Writers’ Diet diagnostic tool and was labelled ‘flabby’ in my writing. Analysing my errors and referring to the textbook ’Communication Toolkit’ by Grellier and Goerke (2014), also submitting my piece of writing to Grammarly and paper rater I was able to measure my weakness in the area of sentence structure, punctuation and grammar.
Over the eighth grade year, I have learned to effectively use feedback and reflection skills to strengthen my writing. These writing processes taught me to include peer and teacher feedback along with self-reflection to earn a better grade on my writing pieces. In the beginning of the year, I would simply complete the drafts my teacher assigned. Proof of my original writing process is shown in the essay, titled One Necessity of a Hero: Personal Sacrifice, in which it reflects on the Thematic Unit. To demonstrate my poor writing process, a segment of my original introduction stated, “After analyzing documents from The Hobbit Thematic Unit, I discovered that the principles of heroism involve personal sacrifice. I also learned that a hero is
Well, I have never thought about my writing process before, but I will try to describe it as much as I can. The first stage, which is the most important thing in my writing process is that to know the purpose of the topic that I am going to write about and I have to make sure that believing in the work that I am going to work on. Following those steps the next stage is going to be to just simply start typing without worrying about nothing, it might sound crazy because logically you cannot build a house without having materials that are needed obviously, but for me as a foreigner and having difficulties in writing the best way to have my ideals and thoughts flow is that to just sit down and type without hesitation. The next stage
