At this point in the semester I do not really feel any different than in the beginning. For the most part my writing has stayed the same as when I first started. The biggest change I have experienced in my writing is my ability to organize more effectively and to manage my time better. Although my writing has not changed increasingly, some parts of the writing process has been improved such as organization and time management.
One thing I have learned during the course of this semester thus far are the terms logos, pathos, and ethos. I would not say that knowing the terms have significantly affected how I read now, as I feel like the skills needed to use logos, pathos, and ethos I had already been using. However, now I know terms and because of such I am able to organize the thoughts more sufficiently. My writing problems have consistently been a struggle with organization. Having specific terms for skill I already used has made organization much easier as I can categorize my critical thinking.
I have written reading responses and comparison essays before so I cannot say that the writing in this class has impacted my writing significantly. Overall my writing has not changed much, however my organization skill have improved. I have always preferred organization and lists and categorizing, so learning what logos, pathos, and ethos are has given me a knew way to categorize information and has improved my organization and time management. While I feel confident that I haves used
When the Cold War occurred between the Soviet Union and the United States it was intensifying. There was fear that there would be a communist influence toward the United States.This is later to be known as the second Red Scare which occurred in the late 1940s to the mid 1950s. The first Red Scare occurred in the early 20th century, when there was a period of suspicion that the revolution in Russia would overthrow the United States government. Leading to the fear of communist revolution in the United States. During the second Red Scare in the late 1940s, Joseph McCarthy was a senator of Wisconsin ,during that time. In half of his time in office ,he tried to 1 expose communists and other people who were risks to the United States, this
I believe that I have grown at organization and careful stream my thoughts as well. Before I would just begin writing my papers without any plans or organization, along with no definite idea of where I would be going with the assignments, but throughout this course I’ve learned that you should base your paper around your thesis statement. Another skill I took from this class was to value my classmate’s responses, from their reactions made me much more aware that my main ideas
Leaders, to be a successful communicator, must acquire the skills and tasks of an active listener. My position as a charge nurse has allowed me to learn the art of communication of which I find to be crucial especially when dealing with volatile situations that occur in the workplace between the staff, patients, and their loved one. One particular case I can recall involved a family member who disagreed with the staff handling of their loved one whom they requested another nurse. This was one of my busiest nights, and I had to intervene and resolved the issue before it escalated to another level. The family requested to speak to someone in administration and as a charge nurse, I was able to intervene and solved the issue before
I have been practicing on how to improve my writing over the past few weeks, which has taught me a great deal about writing. My teacher would like me to evaluate and explain my strengths and weaknesses in my own writing. This evaluation is in between my two essays. One on my own and another with my teacher's help. I have strengths and weakness in my introduction, body paragraphs ,and my conclusion.
There was one major assignment in particular that helped me understand the wrong and right way for me to read a source. Major Assignment one became a challenge for me when I realized that I do not comprehend sources that I read from straight off of my computer. In order to complete the assignment and write the paper, I had to print out the sources and highlight key points. It took me several hours to determine a set up the organizational plan for major assignment one's essay.
When I look back at my writing before having any college experience, I can see that I had a lot to work on. I can say that I was never really a big fan of writing anything much less essays. Even when I was younger, I just did not have a great big interest in writing. This was because I felt that I could not elaborate as well as others. I was not use to having to write anything really, but I now feel that I have a better grasp on the steps that I need to take to get my writing on the level that it needs to be.
To effectively revise and edit my research paper, I read it carefully, as I played the reader`s role instead of that of a writer. In addition, I used a number of strategies to effectively revise and edit my research paper. First, I read my paper aloud as I listened for errors. After carefully listening, I was able to identify and correct errors in my writing, including grammar, incorrect sentence structure, incomplete ideas, and incorrect punctuation. While reading, I could stop and rectify the mistake at the point where I could note it. In addition, I read each sentence at a time so that I could digest the structure and identify any error. Prior to the reading, I noted down the common errors I usually commit while writing such as the omission
I have trouble writing because my writing seems to be a little “tongue-in-cheek” as my AP English teacher said. (I have a couple unfinished examples that I will attach). I tend to not know exactly what I am trying to say in my essays. It is not that I am a poor writer per se; I just have an issue focusing my writing. I enjoy writing; however, I become engrossed in the way I want to present my ideas. Perhaps it is that I do not know the audience to whom I am writing. I usually use proper grammar and mechanics but that is definitely not enough to write an exceptional essay. In this course, I feel strongly that I will develop these skills. Another concern I have with writing is when it is timed. I have never performed well in a timed writing assignment;
After reading over my summer assignment essay and analyzing the comments and feedback of my writing I feel that I have a lot of work to do to improve my writing as a whole. I feel I had the ideas down on what I wanted to say on my summer essay. It was just difficult expressing them in a way that was compelling enough to the reader. The topics for the essay were not challenging to me because I felt that I wrote a lot about the one I chose on alienation. Throughout my reflection I will discussed the weaknesses and strengths in my writing as well as talk about ways I feel I could improve my writing.
When reflecting on my experience writing, editing, and completing the culminating journal assignment, I found that it was fairly easy considering how this was an emotional, opinion based paper. This paper probably took me about three hours to complete because I had to thoroughly reminisce on what I had learned this semester. However, after taking a look over my journals, I found substantial growth in myself since the beginning of the school year. A specific challenge that I overcame when writing this paper was procrastination because I finished it as soon as I got it assigned. Additionally, I feel this paper highlights my intriguing flow and unique style of portraying ideas. Accordingly, I am most proud of how I elaborated on specific journals and thoughts throughout this paper. Overall, I hope to grow as a writer in the future by attending meetings at the writing center and asking teachers and peers for advice. In the end,
Over the course of the semester we have written multiple papers with an assortment of topics. Writing the various papers has expanded my writing skills because each paper required different skills to satisfy the requirements of the paper. Through the various strategies we have learned in class I have improved my writing tremendously through using clear and precise language, considering feedback, and incorporating and explaining evidence.
I have also realized that there are going to be many times you have to scrap ideas and start over. This semester I have realized that I try and perfect my assignments too much to where I start to crunch on time because it wasn’t to my expectation and I started over to many times, that there is in fact a way that too much thought can be put into a paper to where it becomes cluttered. The biggest growth I’ve seen over this semester is overall just my writing in general. At the beginning, my writing was very basic. My sentences were all around the same size and it was just not at the level of writing I would have liked it to be. The biggest thing that helped me with this over the semester would be just reading and editing mine as well as other peers’ papers. Towards the end of the semester it became easier to write, whether it was a personal, research, or
Have I improved from when the class started to now? Or have I remained the same or worse have I become a worse writer and reader? These are questions that need to be answered by a self-reflection and evaluation. One must always set goals and analyze their growth or the lack thereof. The analysis of progress helps show how far one has come, and it also helps the rate of improvement accelerate. Throughout this semester, I have improved my writing, reading, and critical thinking skills. I have accomplished this by effectively taking advantage of an opportunity to become a learner. All in all, I have completed with the learning outcomes of this class by improving the
During this semester in English 250, the communicative works I have completed in this course have improved in both sophistication and overall completeness. In this reflection, I will review the work I had completed throughout the semester and analyze how I have grown as a communicator. I will first analyze and reflect on my communicative habits and processes, and then analyze my communicative development relating to the WOVE modes.
Movie directors predicting humanity coming to an end because of population density may not be as preposterous as society thought. Population is defined as the amount of same species sustaining in a certain region, for humans that would be Earth. The graphical representation of human population increase from the beginning of history was a slightly inclined horizontal line, however that all changed after the industrial revolution (more industry, jobs, sustainability, etc.) and from that moment on to present day it has changed into a slightly inclined vertical line. Just taking a glance at population numbers since 1997, where it was approximately 5.9 billion, to 2015 where it is approximately 7.3 billion, means an increase of 1.4 billion, in just eighteen years. At such an exponential increase rate, population density will have a negative impact on Earth. Using technology, it has been determined that Earth has the natural resources to sustain ten billion people before a resource crisis. The population increase only accounts for human population, if other species are accounted for including chickens, cows, pigs, etc. the sustainability number decreases. Furthermore, scientists have determined that if population continues to increase at such an exponential rate, by 2050 the population will have reached approximately 10 billion. The increase in population will effect water, food, and energy supplies. Although, Nobel Peace Prize honoree Norman Borlaug contributed to the grain
