To effectively revise and edit my research paper, I read it carefully, as I played the reader`s role instead of that of a writer. In addition, I used a number of strategies to effectively revise and edit my research paper. First, I read my paper aloud as I listened for errors. After carefully listening, I was able to identify and correct errors in my writing, including grammar, incorrect sentence structure, incomplete ideas, and incorrect punctuation. While reading, I could stop and rectify the mistake at the point where I could note it. In addition, I read each sentence at a time so that I could digest the structure and identify any error. Prior to the reading, I noted down the common errors I usually commit while writing such as the omission
1. My writing has grown tremendously since my first essay of the semester. The first essay I struggled with organization and sentence structure. Considering my last essay, I have been able to organize information to make it much more pleasing to read. Likewise, in my second essay I had some trouble with the MLA format. However, in my last essay I managed to cite and source all information more favorably. Furthermore, in my third essay I had trouble with adding detail in my body paragraphs. In my last essay, I was able to demonstrate a full understanding of the assignment by providing great detail. Overall, throughout this course, I have been able to form my own unique style of writing
Throughout the past semester, as a writer, I have experienced an immense amount of development. The knowledge I have received through attending this English class has had an eminently positive affect on my writing capabilities, styles, and comforts. During the duration of the class I have been constantly urged to journey outside of my traditional comfort zone to elaborate and write about several topics that have affected and diversified my ability as a writer. In addition, I have learned many different styles of writing, new to me before the class and have attempted to write various new forms of essays. Through learning and attempting all of the new writing styles and techniques, my writing has positively grown amidst the duration of the semester. The constant practice in and outside the classroom continually matured and refined my writing proficiency and capabilities. The development and advancement of my writing ability is displayed in my works through the processes of prewriting preparation, writing development, and revision and editing.
Writing has to actually make sense. Would it be wise to throw words or thoughts together without direction and confidently expect your reader to understand? The most interesting things I’ve learned so far in this course was how to formulate a three paragraph essay. This method is broken down in three parts called an introductory paragraph, body paragraph, and summary paragraph. Learning this method more than simplified what direction my writing should go.
As a student enrolled in all Honors English courses throughout my high school career, my teachers followed a relatively challenging curriculum. Every year, I was expected to write every one of the following types of texts at least one: argumentative, analysis and narrative. I have always considered English to be my best subject because not only was I enticed by it, but I was also excelled at it. Below, I will reflect on a few of the most honorable pieces of writing from my four years of high school. I will highlight my strengths, weaknesses and areas of improvement from each text as I have progressed a writer.
Writing is way that we can express ourselves, it is a way to interface ideas and thoughts and to prove a point. Throughout my writing experience or process I have struggled with writing especially using details or really expressing myself my work. In this course Facts & Fiction: Portraits in World Art I expect to gain more knowledge on how to write a perfect essay, story, letter, and assignment. I expect to learn new genres and rhetorical situations. I also think my writing will improve academically and I will develop my skills in writing. Also taking my writing to a different point of view, level, and writing something different rather than the usual. I look forward to getting feedback from my peers and learning their thoughts on my writing and how they can help me improve.
A delete button, placed on the end on my pencil. So that I can move forward, for it lets me get rid of the things holding my back. Small, but purposeful.
Before this course started I didn’t believe I would become a better writer, but to a certain degree, I have. Since taking this course I have been able to grow and learn as a writer, editor, and creative. I have tried to improve particular aspects of my writing such as paying closer attention to my audience. I have learned writing skills and techniques from The Art of Rhetoric which I applied to my writings. In addition, an important and useful skill that I learned from this class was to start writing early. The next assignment was a working draft; it helped me write down all my thoughts and sources I had found and also determine if my focus was valid and in the right direction. After, having the working draft reviewed, the next drafts were
Throughout the semester, I have noticed a great improvement in my writing. In the beginning of the year, I struggled with understanding how to use APA since this is the first class I have taken that uses APA. The most difficult part about APA is the reference page and in text citation. To get a better understanding of how to write a reference page and use in text citations, I would use websites such as Purdue Owl and at times I would also use Youtube. Another skill I developed is learning how to use Logos, Pathos, and Ethos in my writing. Because of this skill, I was able to not only use it for English 102, but also for my Creative Writing 101 class.
My biggest area of improvement this year as a writer was my style and structure. Last year, in English I, we learned a writing technique called “The Evidence Sandwich”. It was a basic claim, evidence, commentary, structure for writing body paragraphs. This was helpful when I was a freshman, but as a grew as a writer sophomore year, this made my writing sound static and robotic. As my writing progressed through the school year, I started breaking free from that structure, enabling me to add flow and style to my writing, while still maintaining the requirements for a successful body paragraph. Meanwhile, my writing started shifting from pure summary to actual literary analysis. These changes transformed my writing into more improved and polished papers. A challenge I faced this year was my writing process and my work ethic. At first I was very excited about the amount of essay writing time we had in class. However, as the year continued, I found the stress of sophomore year and all my other classes clouding my focus. This made it very hard to sit down in class and work on my essay without reaching to my other binder. I feel that if I had worked harder to focus in class and get more work done, my essays would have been much better because I would have had more material to revise ahead of time and ask Ms. Hursh questions on, and less work to do the night before the deadline. Next year, I will aim to use my time in class wisely so I have more time at home to focus on college and other junior year items.
Over the course of the semester, we have studied a variety of styles of writing, from the perspective paper to the
Over the course of this year I have had the opportunity to use all of the writing techniques that we have learned in class this year during my assignments. But when going back through and reflecting on my works I have had many different chances to incorporate them in but had missed my opportunity. During the beginning of the year I worked as quickly as I could to finish assignments and was barely able to turn them in on time. This was a huge problem for me because I was not able to fully understand every writing strategy and when and where to use them. However as the year progressed I was able to budget more time for completing my homework so I could incorporate these new strategies that we learned during class into my assignments. Over the course of this reflection I will talk about certain assignments that I could have improved with different techniques and then show how I did.
I have a very particular writing process. It was introduced to me during my sophomore year of high school and proved successful over the last four years of my undergraduate education. I began to consider myself a writer following a year long course required by my high school. The purpose of the class was to perfect our writing abilities and appreciate literary classics (inspiring us to write) such as; Slaughterhouse-Five, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and Catcher and the Rye, just to name a few. Our classes began each morning with a themed brainstorm, we would use them to develop our essays, following the steps which follow. I have continued to follow the rules I was taught, as it has been prosperous through out my educational endeavors. The course of this essay will examine my writing process, while comparing notions of good writing skills.
Throughout this academic journey, English Composition classes have always been interesting and intriguing. Although some formal writing processes can be complexed. A writer must learn the importance of understanding the basic fundaments with formatting and structure. Academic writing allows the writer to converse with persuasive ideas to help support their arguments. In saying this, academic writing is very universal, and it can be a resourceful tool to use with many endeavors in life.
As someone who enjoys writing, I can say I know what inspiration feels like. Maybe I am out for a stroll in the park, or maybe I am simply sitting at home reading a book. Then, out of nowhere, inspiration strikes. An idea hits me, and I feel the need to get to a keyboard or pen as soon as possible. I have experienced it many times. Given the intensity of this feeling, and my fervor when writing, I expect great works of literature to arise when inspiration hits. However, this is not always the case, and I often lose all sense of technique while in this creative frenzy. The first draft of my work is emotionally charged, but lacks the clarity required to keep my audience reading until the end. This is why, while inspiration is an essential part of writing, I believe editing and revision are more important to creating work that will engage readers.
If I were to describe my writing style in one word it would be " ". I began to realize this the latter half of my sophomore year of high school. I was fortunate enough to have an excellent English department with supportive teachers throughout my four years at school. Each teacher I learned from was great at giving constructive feedback and always made me feel valued as a writer. I might not have been the best but throughout the different classes I took, I believe skills I have picked up along the way have made me a better writer. There's a point some people hit where writing doesn't feel like a chore, but rather they look forward to. I come from a family of readers as well as writers, and I like to believe they go hand-in-hand. I think that's why I looked forward to summer reading assignments and the essays that accompanied them. It became a way for me to reflect on the book I had just read, I got a better understanding of it when I needed to describe my favorite chapter or explain the plot.
