The professional development session I presented to two colleagues and mentor principal was revised and presented again to attain a stronger effect. The presentation centered on the inclusion of technology into the curriculum to gain more interest from students. The presentation also aligns with the school mission and vision, which is "We believe that every student who comes to Prairie will grow in his or her knowledge, skills, and experiences to achieve academic excellence" (PMS, 2017). The school currently has multiple teachers not taking advantage of the technology in the building, and more professional development around that area will help teachers feel more comfortable with using technology in their classrooms. I began the presentation by giving the fact about the need for more technology in the classroom. I then started to talk about youtube and google slides websites, in summary. Next, I went through the registration process and primary functions of each site. As the teacher navigates through the website, I answered any question they had. Next, I showed them my finished product of the two websites and gave the group student password and username blank sheets and information on how to navigate through both websites. Finally, I gave the participants evaluation forms to fill out.
The revised presentation focused and two different instructional implementations, instead of three like presented previously. I felt that doing only two implementations gave me an
Technology has developed far quicker in the last fifty years than ever before in the history mankind. It has influenced the way we all live in countless ways including how we learn. In a culture that has become increasingly reliant on technology, it is not shocking that technology has become part of the permanent setting in our schools and classrooms. Technology is changing the landscape of education, modernizing how educators teach, how children learn and how parents contribute in the process. The digital-technology revolution was slow to penetrate the ranks of America's public high schools and slower still to trickle down to the ranks of our elementary institutions. The good news is that high-tech teaching is finally providing a forceful impact to the elementary learning process. Elementary level education is a student’s foundation of their academic period and it is in this stage where technology should be embraced to learn and teach.
Technology in the classroom is important for teachers, parents, and students alike, because technology use has become a necessary skill for survival in today’s vastly expanding technology driven global economy. Research has shown an increase in student’s success rates when exposed to technology in the classroom. Also technology has opened lines of communication between educators and parents to keep students on track, and help teachers educate better.
Technology has changed so many of the ways in which we live our lives, from the invention of the wheel to the advanced systems we use and take for granted everyday. Technology was once taboo in most house holds while people still clung to the idea that life was built on life experiences. Nicholas Carr stated in, Is Goggle making us stupid? "Back in the fourth century, BCE, Plato complained that writing (then a fairly new technology) was destroying peoples memory, yet he wrote dozens of books. For half a century, television has been accused of rotting our brains and making us fat and lazy, but most people depend on it for info, news and entertainment." Technology has changed our understanding of the way things work and
Technology has revolutionized the human experience by changing the way one learns. Technology can best be defined as a tool that supports and promotes human learning. This can be seen through the usage of calculators, tablets (example: iPad), Smart Boards, video cameras, and, of course, the computer. These are all innovations that can have a profound impact on classroom learning. Although there are some schools that have a strict policy that technology should be removed from the modern day classroom, other schools believe that integrating technology into the classroom helps prepare our students for the elaborate world they will face going forward. Throughout this essay, I will be focusing on the technology policy and how it has a positive
Technology is a very essential part of people lives in the world they live in today. Everything from businesses, schools, newspapers, etc, is transferring over to technology and its use. Integrating technology inside of schools is almost mandatory. It is really helpful in preparing students for when it’s time to go out into the real world. Schools use digital technology in many different ways to aid in teaching and learning. Teachers often use grade books, digital portfolios, learning games Technology will help students receive the knowledge and skills they need to survive in an updated, high complex economy. With technology changing constantly, the way of thinking needs to change just as much. Integrating technology into the classroom goes further than teaching basic computer knowledge and problem solving, there also needs to be advanced classes and up to date applications to keep up with and to help with overall knowledge. Effective integration must be placed into the curriculum to balance things out. There are four effective tips to help out. Active engagement, participant in groups, frequent interaction and feedback, and connection to real world experts are the four ways.
The education system around the world has progressed and changed in a plentiful amount of ways, and the concept of knowledge and learning has changed in modern day. For example, certain schools around the globe are moving on to implementing technology in classrooms because it provides many benefits and statistical research that states how students are improving their academic readiness because of the instant access to information, a greater engagement and interactive process in learning, and the personalization that instructors can do towards the educational experience that students receive. The benefits of technology in class can be rather debatable, for there are people who think it's a distraction, but it certainly seems to be beneficial according to the increase of passing percentages in schools.
Would you want to send your children to a pediatrician that was practicing medicine in the 1970’s or 1980’s? Then why would you want your child to be taught using teaching techniques that are decades, even centuries old (Steinberg par. 2)? Computers in school impact, not only a person’s education, but their whole life: Financial aspects, physical conditions, and their self-esteem.
When media and technology are integrated into the school system, learning is greatly enhanced because the internet allows an easy way to spark the interest of students and make teaching and learning more effective; these tools also provide access to assignments and lessons outside of the classroom and supply students with new learning opportunities. The use of media and technology in the classroom is an extremely useful and effective way to strengthen the learning process in schools. The internet can
Since the introduction of the first personal computer in the 1980’s, technology has become a big part in the way teachers interact with their classes. As the availability of new technologies become more rapidly available a teacher’s role in the classroom changes to a facilitator or moderator. More and more information is being put on line each day, student’s have access to a whole new source of information that was not available to students in previous times. With this being said, should technology be used in today’s classrooms?
In many classrooms today, the use of technology is becoming more popular in the classrooms. Many teachers are incorporating the use of technology into their lessons and methods of teaching. One way to introduce technology into your classroom is to create a WebQuest.
The inspiration to review flipped classroom as a topic of exploration stems from this author’s interest and expertise in using technology and how it can be used to engage and enhance the classroom environment today. Most high school seniors were born during the millennium and they grew up simultaneous with the birth of smartphones, youtube, myspace, facebook, snapchat and instagram. With the increase in technology on a daily basis, one begins to ponder what is the future of education and the type of instruction that is necessary in the classroom to prepare students. Flipped classroom became an interest because it involves using online lectures to provide teachers with more time in the classroom on activities that will strengthen the skills needed for the 21st Century.
The integration of technology and the classroom has become a supported notion from educators, software manufacturers and parents. They believe that a student’s learning can be enhanced with technology focusing on efficiency and effectiveness. In the area of post-secondary education where costs are much higher for students, the belief of using technology in the classroom is much higher. This is because of the investment students take on in hopes of gaining the necessary skills to land a career job in the now competitive workforce. Learning Objects have become the new tool for students to achieve their goals of a rewarding education. This assignment will look into top Learning Objects and determine whether they are effective for students in educating them. This will include discussing MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) and Difference Engine. I will then conclude with my personal opinion on the use of technology in higher level education.
The world is an ever changing environment that is constantly shaping how we function at home, work, and school. The largest factor of change seems to be the rate at which technology is being developed and is becoming a part of our everyday life. One of the largest arguments with the advancing technology is whether or not it’s good for teaching and learning purposes in the classroom. From email to online classes, computers are defiantly manipulating our lives, and can enhance learning in the classroom in various ways. The growing popularity of technology emphasizes the importance for students and administrators to support and encourage computer technology in our education system. The use of technology in the classroom, especially the use of
“The use of technology for teaching has become an integral part of successful learning and teaching languages in many parts of the world” (Abukhattala 262). Despite natural human capability to learn a native language, it is immensely difficult to obtain fluency in a second language. For this reason, countries around the world have started utilizing technology to facilitate learning. For children in Libya, English is viewed as a prerequisite to being successful in both career and personal life. Technology enabled the students to surpass the traditional, and inefficient, means of learning English as a second language. “[The] practice involves a heavy emphasis on grammatical rules, vocabulary memorization and translation of (mostly
Technology has made great strides in the past 20 years. It plays a very important role in our lives today and even plays a critical role in the way students learn all over the world. Unfortunately, students now rely on technology instead of learning key fundamentals. Technology has replaced the need to learn and most answers are just a google search away. Technology has also become expensive and lower socioeconomic school districts have found affording the newest technology difficult because of their lack of funding. Technology is a great learning tool when used appropriately. The lower socioeconomic school falls behind in the expanding frontier of technology in the classroom because they cannot afford it compared to their counterparts and results in a gap in education. The development of technology in the classroom has caused students to fail the learning of fundamentals and has exploited lower socioeconomic school districts.
