This course offers numerous opportunities to improve our writing. In this class, I not only enhanced the skills I already had, but also learned new writing concepts. Before I took this class, I knew that my writing is poor, and I have always wanted to improve it; however, I did not know how and what aspects of writing to improve. So, I came into this class with the ambition to improve my writing, and I have accomplished my goal although there is still room for improvement. At this point of this course, I have learned the elements that successful writing is composed of, and I am now able to categorize the various techniques that can work together to define strong
From elementary school to high school, I was taught that my writing had to be structured and follow strict criteria. After I arrived in Mr. Mukherjee’s ENG 102 class, I was given the opportunity to express my creative freedom through words and graphical pictures. It can often be difficult and challenging to improve upon my own writing abilities unless motived with an idea in mind. When looking back on my time at ASU, I thought about the goals that I wanted to address for myself and the course goals that my instructor had set for the class. These goals include ones that I had accomplished to the best of my ability and ones that I need to address as well as improve.
At the start of this course, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had a goal for myself to improve and learn skills that would make writing less daunting for me. I have learned so many things about my writing that I didn’t think much about before. Another goal I had was to break the cookie-cutter mold that was set upon me throughout high school. During the process of revision, I discovered many things about myself as a writer and techniques that have been effective for me in the writing process.
The art of writing is a complex and difficult process. Proper writing requires careful planning, revision, and proofreading. Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found writing them laborious. Constant practice, however, has eliminated many of my original difficulties, and helped to inspire confidence in my skills. As a collegiate writer, my strength lies in my clear understanding of the fundamentals of writing, while my primary weakness is proofreading my own work.
When I reflect on this course there are so many things that I have learned. What stood for me was the “Nine Steps to good Writing.” Identify your goal, analyze your audience, determine the correct tone and format…I had never considered these concepts before.
While attending writing class, I learned about the 4 steps in writing, bases for revising, organizing, and connecting specific information, and I also learned about the different types of essays such as descriptive, narrative, process, cause and effect and argumentative essay. I have been a student at Milwaukee Area Technical College for 1 semester, and over the course of my enrollment I have grown and learned more that I knew prior to attending this writing course. Participating in this writing class has taught me so much more than stuff about literature and language, it has taught me another way of expressing myself. I have learned here how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that I don 't know. Most importantly I have learned how important technique, outlines and organization are. My goal in this paper is to inform writers about how my writing skills have improved.
Writing has been something that we have always had to do in school. My writing process and techniques have changed drastically since I have entered Writing 1310. When I first set foot into the classroom, I was a good writer, but I didn’t know format too well. As I went through the class, I improved on my writing skill, process, and format. In this paper, I am going to discuss my improvements in skill and my writing process, as well as the changes I have made throughout this course.
Although I would see a combination a few students, I identify most with Eric and Marie the most. Like Eric I have a problem with articulation, what I write is clear to me clear to me, yet confusing to an objective reader. Secrets at 618. I often look for ways to improve my writing, such as writing every day or, like Eric, look for other writing courses to improve my writing. Id. Although I spent ample time researching and writing my 1L memo, unlike Eric, my grade was not reflective. Id. at 621. In addition, like Eric, I spend a lot of my time researching and reading and less time writing. Id. at 623. As noted in footnote 45, I spent a lot of time looking fo the “perfect case.” Id. at 635. The article describes this as “a way of postponing
Over the course of this class I have changed as a writer. My writing has improved, yet their are some similarities between the writing. The writer I was before and after this class is different and the changes should be announced. Now when I write I know how to use transition, not just any basic transition but actually be able to flow from one point to another with quality grammar. A second thing I do as a writer now is knowing how to use MLA 8 formating. The first essay I turned in was extremely wrong on formatting and makes me cringe just looking at it. My citations were all APA formatting and in the header of the essay I put my name, date, teacher, and class. This is completely wrong and am surprised I even got a grade as high as I did. Another thing from looking at my first essay is that I could not write with the proper form. My whole last paragraph of my exemplification essay was useless because it did not have an examples. The writer I am now is more politically correct and can write when in a mode without going out of it.
Being aware of my strengths and weaknesses in the writing realm informs me of areas that allow me to succeed and areas where I need to fix and improve. By having goals that center around educational goals such as getting good grades and enhancing my current writing abilities, I am able to remain focused and determined throughout the school year. I am certain that taking this course is entirely beneficial to a student because it teaches us essential composition skills that we will be able to use throughout our
Reflect: When I started this course, I did not think that I was going to be able to complete it. Writing papers is not a strong suit for myself. But this course was about teaching someone to use what inside themselves to create works of art. Drawing from emotions and imagination and translating that into a written canvas. Most people would not have a problem with knowing one’s self. For me, it is a different situation, but I overcame this. My skills for writing has greatly improved. I am still a person who skips steps, outlines for example and goes right to writing. This is something I cannot change although my Instructors would prefer. I think my impatience is a cause for that. This class has differently
Signing up for this class is something I will never regret. I will be honest and tell you that I signed up for this class to get enough hours to qualify for certain loans. However, I am also honest in telling you I’ve been excited about this class since I first saw it was being offered. I thought this class would be easy because I have written my whole life and have taken two creative writing classes in the past. Yet, this class definitely challenged me, as I have never been limited to writing about one topic (e.g. the Panhandle, love, and loss) before. What set this class apart from others I have taken is the discussion boards. The other creative writing classes I’ve taken have not been online, and I do not recall ever receiving feedback from
As I grew up, I felt I took advantage of the importance of writing and reading. It wasn't until my ninth grade year in honors english I learned the real challenge of perfecting a paper. Before I started the class, I was in the habit of turning in terrible first drafts as my finals. I was at a comfortable state with not putting any effort into my work and just getting it over with. I felt teachers almost participated in this by passing me along without actually helping me in my struggle with writing. Little did i know the crime I was committing on only having my eye set on receiving a
Writing is like building Legos to me because in your writing, you are putting each new ideas together like the bricks to form a complete product for your reader. Before I am taking this class, I felt writing is just a mission my professor gave me that I need to finish one time and I was not really enjoying the process of writing. In writing 200, I have been working on writing and know I am ready to succeed at the next level because in 200 I learned the transition words, how to use different sentence types, and the different types of sentence errors.
This class has been one of the more challenging classes I had this semester. It was challenging because it forced me to really sit down and check my writing process. It gave me a whole new outlook on how I write my papers. I always thought that I was pretty decent at writing papers and I would not have to worry too much. However, this class has given me a new perspective and has allowed me to see that there are many areas that I could improve on in my writing. I needed to improve in areas such as the style of my writing and my sentence structure. I needed to work on my grammar and my punctuation. I had to work on paying more attention to the little details in my writing. This class has allowed for me to really deconstruct and examine how I
I have learned many things throughout the course of the term, including such things as: how to write an essay and how to improve on essays that I have already written, how to locate and composite better research through the use of numerous resources found at the campus library, the internet, and the “Common Sense” textbook, how to cite research, examples, and quotations properly within the contents of my research paper as well as document it accurately according to MLA standards. Through the exploration of the “Subjects and Strategies” textbook, I have learned nine different methods used when writing an effective essay and how the different writing styles affect the overall theme and tone of the essay when used properly. This past
