Reflecting on impact of Iron
Iron is part of the most found elements in the earth. Around 5.6% of the earth’s crust has been composed of it, and almost the entire core of the earth. In addition, Iron has been discovered about 5000 years ago, and the name comes from the Scandinavian word “iarn”. [1]
For this essay, my task is to describe the impact of Iron on society. Furthermore, I will research about the chemical and physical properties of Iron, the obtaining of Iron, and the uses through history and lastly I will compare the metal with the metals that were used beforehand, and what impact the discovery had on society. For this essay, my research question is: “How has the discovery of Iron affected the society?” In my opinion the discovery of Iron didn’t have such a great affection for the society and how they handled, because the people only changed from bronze to another like metal. Everything they could do before, could be done with the Iron too.

Iron is a bright and shiny white metal that is strong, ductile, malleable and soft. The color of the surface of Iron is regularly affected by corrosion, as it easily rusts because it easily combines with the oxygen in the air when moisture is present, but in absolute dry air, the Iron doesn’t rust. [3] The metal is ductile, because it can easily be stretched or pulled into a thin line/wire. Iron is malleable, because it is possible to be bent and shaped. Iron can also be easily magnetized. The metal is likewise a very good conductor of electricity and heat. [4] At room temperature the metal is solid, the melting point is 1535.1 oC, and the boiling point is 3000oC.

The perspective of many historians and textbooks usually consist of the same general understanding of specific issues in American history. The word iron comes ultimately from the latin word ferre,which means to bear or carry. For this reason this is why iron’s symbols is Fe. Iron is a metal with the atomic number 26 and is located in group 8 period 4.The standard atomic weight is 155.845(2) and has a melting point at 1,538 degrees Celsius. It is the fourth most common element on the earth’s crust.
Throughout Cultural Perspectives, many influential texts have been read, analyzed, and discussed. One text, Life in the Iron Mills by Rebecca Harding Davis, integrates the thoughts of quite a few authors that have been discussed this semester. Through employing a Marxist view of history—there are always the “haves” and the “have-nots”—one can see that Life in the Iron Mills exemplifies the struggles that face many “have-not” citizens throughout history. One can then see the clear connections to various authors such as Mary Wollstonecraft, W.E.B. DuBois, Karl Marx and Freidrich Engels, and Adam Smith.
Class division has existed throughout time, both in its range of meaning and complexity of describing social division. The modern implications of class can be seen as a general word for groups or group distribution that has become more common. Rebecca Harding Davis’s short story Life in the Iron Mills, together with Raymond Williams’s entry Class delineates the oppressed lower class in a vivid and moving way, exemplifying the impact of social divisions on oppressed working labourers. Davis “embodies a grim, detailed portrayal of laboring life” (Pistelli 1) with an articulate correlation of Williams’s entry Class, structuring her narrative and focus of attention on gender, industrialization, immigration, and social divide. In my thesis, I contend that the Industrial Revolution impacted women because women in the working and poor classes were a key labor force in mills and factories, they supported their role as the backbone of the household economy by completing housework in the middle class, and finally the Industrial Revolution made an impact on the contributions of ideas made by women.
As living creature’s animals and people iron is one of many essential minerals we that need to stay alive. Iron is required to produce red blood cells through a process called haematopoiesis. It is also an important component of the red blood cells (in hemoglobin) where the iron is present when that is transporting oxygen from the lungs then throughout the body. Once the oxygen delivered the iron binds to the carbon dioxide back to the lungs and the carbon is exhaled. It has many other functions: maintain homeostasis, metabolism (conversion of blood sugar to energy, production of enzymes, amino acids, new cells, hormones, etc.). The metabolisms process is allowing people to maintain healthy cells of skin, nails, hair, internal organs, and everything else that allows a person to be alive. However too little iron could cause a condition known as iron deficiency such as anemia. If someone has too much iron it can cause a person to become toxic as the storage of iron increases it would cause Hemochromatosis and other conditions. The Industrial Revolution that took place throughout the 18th and the 19th centuries had major effects which influenced every aspect of society and life such as, urbanization, imperialism and nationalism. The industrial revolution had an unfathomable effect on shaping the modern world to what it is today. Before the revolution, society revolved around farming and agriculture. There were only two social classes, the nobility and the working class. Little did they know, that their lives were about to change dramatically and continue changing for the next generations to come.
Despite being the most abundant metal on earth (in its raw state of bauxite), aluminium used to be considered a precious metal. Only once the processes of extraction and smelting were made more efficient and electricity became cheaper and more readily available did aluminium become what it is today – the most extensively used non-ferrous metal in the world and the most liquid contract traded on the LME.
The Bronze Ages was a time when humans started to advance in tool making and other useful objects. The Bronze Ages began in different times in different places, but the time period that the Bronze Ages began overall was around (2,000 B.C - 3,700 B.C). During this time bronze was beginning to be used for tools, weapons, and other implements. Bronze is made up of 90% of heated copper and 10% of heated tin.
