The iron industry was and still is now a very important and dangerous industry. It involved very dangerous tasks including mining in enclosed caves. Henry Oliver played a very important role in the iron and mining industry. Hope you enjoy! A man named Henry W. Oliver invested in a failing mining company in the late 1800s. Within a few years, the Oliver mining company was the biggest and the most successful mining business in Minnesota. The company became very rich; lots of money was made. The Oliver mining company was the most successful business in Minnesota during their time. Of all the out-of-state businessmen who invested in Minnesota’s iron mines, Henry W. Oliver was the most influential. Oliver was rich, but he wasn't rich enough to pay
James J. Hill was a railroad magnate that was born in Canada and later moved to Minnesota where he started his profession. It started when he bought a bankrupt railroad and made it new again. He made railroads all around Minnesota. He became the only working railroad company in Minnesota. Which is why he got into a monopoly. After that, he entered the coal business and five years later it expanded tremendously.
The owners of the mines preyed on immigrants from outside of the United States with promises of bringing them to the United States, bringing them to Colorado, setting them up with a job and housing and
Robber Barons In the new industrial age, people such as Andrew Carnegie and JD Rockefeller played a key role industrializing America. They paved the way for future industry with their creativity and ambition (Document C-2, historian B, 1953). The United States would not be as technologically advanced if these poeple didnt come up with the stratigies that they did. Carnegie was thought to be the industrail hero of the time, while Rockefeller was thought to be the Oil hero.
The discovery of “Fools Gold” is what led to the enriched and powerful development of the mining company. A Baltimore native John Detrick managed to hike along the Quantico Creek and discovered something shiny in the water which just so happened to be pyrite, also known as Iron Sulfide. With this discovery there came three shafts that lived pyrite. The Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine was the only pyrite mine in the area and really helped out the locals by boosting the economy and providing jobs for farmers who worked as laborers for the mine and then went home to tend to their farm after working. The company was such a big success that by 1917, Virginia produced more pyrite than any other state and continued to provide profitable income to families and businesses located in the area. This would be Batestown and Hickory Ridge at the time in history. With a booming economy, the mining company was able to rake in even more of a profit when World War I struck due to the fact that it was able to produce gunpowder during the mid-nineteenth century. The Cabin Branch Mining Company not only produced an income for the locals by pyrite carrying the main ingredient sulfur that was necessary to produce products like gunpowder, bleach, textiles, soap, medicine, etc. but it also contributed to the remarkable advantages the park would make with its preservation of the mine
One of the pioneers of the Big Business I chose to research is Andrew Carnegie. In this paper I will include how was his business and how did Mr. Carnegie started his business. I will also talk about how his business grew to the level it did. The good and bad effects of the business in the 19th century, How Mr. Carnegie business affected society today, what were the pros and cons of this business, if this cons and pros still exist.
The Industrial Age was an era of great change for the United States. It had both positive and negative affects on many Americans, depending on their economical status. Overall, the rise of industry was good for the United States. For instance, inventions such as steel from Henry Bessemer “became important in the formation of our nation”. It gave rise to railroads for transportation and also helped expand trade between the East and the West. It brought goods from the farmers to the markets. Steel also gave rise to better farming machinery, skyscrapers and structures such as the Brooklyn Bridge. Other new inventions arose from this Industrial Era such as the sewing machine and the typewriter. This gave rise to many new jobs for women and children,

The Industrial Revolution was more negative than positive because employees had to work in dangerous working conditions. During the 1800’s many home made productions were moved to vast factories in the cities. With that, safety regulations
During the late 1800s iron mining was at its peak and was most profitable. Minnesota had some of the biggest mines in the U.S.A. In all in the late 1800s the U.S. had mined over 42.5 BILLION metric tons of iron. This was mostly due to the fact that new equipment came out that made iron ore mining easier and faster.
Another main use of steel during the second Industrial Revolution was railroad tracks. This was especially important because railroads were the main transportation in transporting goods across country, which the mass-production of steel allowed tracks to be laid quicker. Railroads not only transported goods, but had also been a way of transportation for people to get from one side of the country to another throughout the world. Steel tracks allowed this to be done safer, quicker and more
Railroads that were once operated by horse and wagon were finally made into steel tracks for steam trains to carry goods. This was especially important to the coal industry because it made the jobs of the miners much safer than before. Small railways made of steel were formed underground to transport the coal out of the mines by the use of small railcars. The idea to use steel in the process of transportation was nothing new at the beginning of the industrial revolution. Britain was known to have vast amounts of steel and had been working since about 1800 on using steel as tracks and a train or buggy type to transport things.
The Industrial revolution delivered both wonders and worries to America. Although the Industrial Revolution turned America into the richest and most successful nation, it also brought hardships and corruption. The outcomes of the Industrial Revolution were greatly influenced by two groups of people: The Captains of Industry, and the Robber Barons. The Captains of Industry are the men responsible for the success of America during the Industrial Revolution. The guys mostly remembered for their dedication and work for America are, Andrew Carnegie, J.P. Morgan, and John D Rockefeller. J.P Morgan was a very successful and influential man who made his money from banking and owning many companies and stocks. He is mostly known for bailing out the National Government and saving the country from an economic downfall. Andrew Carnegie and John D Rockefeller could be considered on both sides of the spectrum. They made steel and oil cheap for Americans which helped grow America, and they also gave large donations to various places

“One factor contributing to the development of industry in Great Britain was that nation's large supply of coal and iron ore. For many centuries, the British had converted their iron ores to iron and steel by heating the raw material with charcoal, made from trees. By the mid-eighteenth century, however, the nation's timber supply had largely been decimated. Iron and steel manufacturers were forced to look elsewhere for a fuel to use in treating iron ores. The fuel they found was coal. When coal is heated in the absence of air it turns into coke. Coke proved to be a far superior material for the conversion of iron ore to iron and then to steel. It was eventually cheaper to produce than charcoal and it could be packed more tightly into a blast furnace, allowing the heating of a larger volume of iron.” The living standard as well as health increased with the increase in trade, more food products and livestock can be transported to further cities. As the steam engine improved trade and travel, the assembly line did for manufacturing.
The Industrial Revolution was the main contributor of the development of factories and modern day machinery. The Industrial Revolution created hundreds of new jobs, influenced many new inventions, and created many new ways of creating and transporting goods. Many jobs including spinners, miners, factory workers, and farmers were beginning to rise in population, due to the new technology being created in the 18th and 19th centuries. The start of new inventions coming into view was beginning in Britain, with many agricultural tools creating new ways to plow and yield crops. Later on, it caused new forms of transportation to be developed, for example, railroads and canals. This essay will explain exactly how these causes began, and how they
