Stay Gold Life can go wrong at anytime. Life is an amazing thing and everyone wants it to last as long as possible. There are all kinds of groups in the world. Some of them are bad and some of them are good. Groups that are different from one another, hate each other. They want to fight to prove who’s better.Life is all about change and nothing can stay the way it is now. Life is too good to die. One reason is that you’re living it, you’re alive, you’re breathing, you’re lucky (elitedaily.com). Johnny hated how he was living but when he came close to dying, he wanted to live. He talked about killing himself all the time, but now he doesn't want to die (Hinton 121). People always talk about killing themselves, but they don’t because life is golden. Think of how your friends and family will feel if you die. They would feel terrible if …show more content…
There are many groups, whether if it’s religion or with just friends. The Socs and Greasers are two very opposite groups. The Socs beat up the Greasers for no reason (Hinton 3). groups are usually separated by money our personality. Groups in real life, like in WW1, are are very different. Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated because they didn’t like what kind of group he was in (www.history.com). Everyone could’ve got along but now we can’t because nothing gold can stay.
Groups usually get along with other groups that are similar to each other. If your group is nothing like someone else's group, chances are, you don’t get along very well. The Socs and the Greasers want to fight to see who is better. Fighting is only proving your physical strength. Like Randy from “The Outsiders” said, If the Greasers win the fight, they’ll still be at the bottom (Hinton 98). It’s like ISIS trying to prove they’re better than everyone else because they kill people. They don’t realize that they’re at the bottom. Different groups fight and fight until they prove they are better than one
An example from the book is how in the beginning of the book the Socs had jumped Ponyboy. Ponyboy didn’t even do anything to infuriate the Socs or have a fight, the Socs just did it just because. The Socs and Greasers are rival gangs and the Socs just wanted to pick up a fight because that is what the Socs do. The Greasers later come in to help Ponyboy and scare the Socs off. This means that the Socs think that violence is fun when really it isn’t. The Socs are sort of picking on the Greasers just because they know they are better which bring me to my next point about the Socs which is
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be in a huge rivalry between two sides? And always have to watch your back for the opposing side? In the book The Outsiders, a novel by S.E. Hinton, two groups are always rivaling the Socs and the Greasers which makes up the whole plot line. The Greasers are poor and live on the east side of the city and the Socs are the rich who live on the west side. But in the end which gang is at fault? They both cause trouble with each other but based off of soon to be proven information we claim the Socs to be at fault.
As Ponyboy states when he starts to understand this, “No, it wasn’t Cherry the Soc who was helping us, it was Cherry the dreamer who watched sunsets and couldn’t stand fights.” (Hinton 86). Ponyboy was previously under the impression that all Socs didn’t care about anything, and was surprised when he met Cherry, a Soc who watched the same sunset as he did. The stereotype of Socs being heartless and cruel was all he had seen and heard, so it was hard for him to understand how one could be so different. Ponyboy’s friends felt similarly, and most of them found it even harder to grasp this concept than Ponyboy had. The Greasers were used to judging the Socs as a group, and did not see them as individuals. These group stereotypes are what ultimately caused most of the biggest fights in the novel.
Where the Socs more harmful to society that the greasers, or were the greasers total outcasts to society. It's hard to say which, but I have come to a conclusion. I think that the Socs were more of a disgrace and menace to society because they were the ones that attacked Johnny and Ponyboy when the greasers didn't even want to fight with the Socs. This also proves that the Socs don’t really care about what happens to the greasers which further messes up Society. A second piece of evidence that proves that the Socs are not as good as the greasers in society is how they act. Most of the Socs would attack or provoke the greasers if they ever meet, but if you look at Ponyboy and Johnny, you would know that they would only fight if provoked. The
Most of the time the Soc’s are messing with the Greasers. The Soc’s and Greasers don’t take violence serious.
In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, the Socs are the ones to blame for all of the problems. After all they are the cause of the rumble. The Socs are no good drunk 24/7 idiots who need to turn their ego down, and intelligence up. They screw up MANY times in the book. Yah yah, greasers are not perfect, but at least they have some common sense. And I’ll tell you why the greasers are innocent and the Socs are not.
The socs and the greasers shares a sense of hatred against each other, they fight with each other both verbally and physically. One of the instances that shows their conflict externally was the 'Saturday Night Rumble'. The two gangs " moved in a circle under the light, counter-clockwise, eyeing
For example, since Johnny killed Bob, and Johnny is part of the Greasers, the Socs were even meaner to them. Both of the groups were involved in a rumble. They weren’t just mad at one person but one whole group. Also, during this rumble Darry volunteered to take the first hit, and Paul went up against him. The two were actually on the same football team in high school and were buddies. However, now that they were part of this group, they had to fight one another. Despite their times before and how they actually got along at one point, they still fought. Considering, Cherry was a Soc and she cared about her reputation and what her parents thought of her, she wasn’t able to hang out with Ponyboy. After while hanging out, Cherry’s boyfriends came to pick them up. She told them if she doesn’t talk to him in the halls during school, it’s not personal , it’s just because of the different
In the song "Stay Gold" by Stevie Wonder, it describes how everything that you see will pass away some time. For instance, there is one of the lyrics that illustrates the perspective of this song: "You thought that all would last forever, but like the weather, nothing can ever... be in time to stay gold."
“For thugs from the ghetto, violence is a way of life - it’s what helps you survive.” The Socs and the Greasers were two gangs in The Outsiders. Throughout the novel these two gangs had a continuous rivalry. These two gangs were viewed differently by society. The Socs as rich kids and the Greasers as poor kids.
The Socs and the Greasers have isolated themselves in their community which lead to all the violence in the story.
A major conflict in this novel is between the greasers and the Socs. These two gangs are made up of complete opposites. The two rivals fall into conflict because of how they view each other and their roles in society. Greasers are poor hoods from the East side that “wear our hair long and dress in t-shirts and blue jeans… and wear leather jackets
The difference in social class definitely took its toll on the two of these gangs. The Soc’s and Greaser’s opinion would change from with experiences, but for the most part it was a clash for who owned the town. The Socs were the “good guys” and the Greasers were the “troublemakers” of town, although this was definitely not the case but because of the unchanging prejudice opinions were placed on both of the groups it would not change. For example, Ponyboy explained that maybe the Greasers and Socs aren’t so different after all. On page 40, Ponyboy starts to wonder how different he is from any of the Socs, “It seemed funny to me that the sunset she saw from her patio and the one I saw from the back steps was the
Besides the conflicts between the greasers and the conflicts between the Socs there were also conflicts between the two gangs. Because the two groups were so
Judging whether life is or is not worth living amounts to answering the fundamental question of philosophy. "(The Myth of Sisyphus). This is a philosophical statement to some others as with Camus see this a true and evident problem. So many will turn this into a argument for which no side could win. The argument cannot be won by many because they simply will not take their own selves out of the equation. One of the top reasons a person is said to want to die is that the individual has a philosophical desire to die. This desire can be broke down into different patterns or traits the person holds deep inside themselves, also there could be outside factors influencing this. Doctor Alex Lickerman of the University of Chicago states, "These people aren’t depressed, psychotic, maudlin, or crying out for help. They’re trying to take control of their destiny and alleviate their own suffering, which usually can only be done in death."( reasons why people comment suicide). These people are not clinically depressed, they are making the choice to take control of their own destiny. Taking control of one's own destiny or life is not something that is looked down upon in the normal everyday society. In today's world it is extremely important that people be themselves and with so many sub-cultures for the people of this world to fall into people do not want to conform to everyday society. Suicide is considered wrong to some
