Ready Player One is a book that takes place in the future and the world has gone to crap so they try to escape reality by going into the Oasis, a virtual world that was owned by a man named Halliday but in this time he has died and in his death there was a contest and whoever won the contest got the prize money and ownership of the Oasis. “You can only find happiness in reality” is a quote that is used a lot but is also true, to have true happiness means real happiness and the Oasis is not real its fake so you never can have true happiness. In the book Halliday talks about his regrets; he talks about how he wished he didn't spend so much time in the Oasis and more time in the real world. In the end Halliday died alone with no one with him, he had no friends and no family, the only people he knew were the people in the Oasis but even then he was alone. Cline writes, “I was afraid, for all of my life. Right up until I knew it was ending.” (Cline 364). This citation shows how Halliday created the Oasis so he wouldn't be alone, but in the end what he was scared of happened. You may want to escape reality, but you will never be truly happy. As terrifying and painful as reality can be, it's also the only place where you can find true happiness, also in the book another event in the book is when Artemis and Wade meet for the first time in the real world. There's a difference between meeting someone in the Oasis. In real life, you can know so much about a person just from physical touch, but that is lost when you're in the Oasis.
