A Power Hungry WannaBe Ruler Who Became A Bully Instead
Everyone knows what a bully is and everyone in his or her’s life have experienced what’s it like to be bullied or be a bully. Even in a play like Macbeth by William Shakespeare's a tragic play it is but it does have a lot of parts where you see things that are very similar to bullying. Most of the bullying that I read in the play were people being taking advantage of, physical violence, social standing, blaming and most of all abuse of power. There are characters who fit in those characteristics like the Three Witches, Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and The Murderers for a very good reason. There are a lot of things that can get people

That being said that definition of a bully is exactly like how some of the characters acted in the play. The Three Witches compare to the definition of a bully taking advantage of someone because in act 1 scene 1 the witches took advantage of Macbeth by telling him a prophecies about how he will become king and have wealth along with land so the Witches basically foreshadowed Macbeth’s future. However since the play has weird writing and it's from 1500s the play has sidebars along the side of what some of the characters are saying and the sidebars translate what the characters are saying to the language we understand today. So the side bars quoted “ …show more content…
After Macbeth was told the prophecies about him becoming king he had to let his wife know. So after knowing what the future supposedly held for Macbeth, Lady Macbeth started to get power hungry way before Macbeth did. Lady Macbeth wanted the power so badly that she deceived her own husband into doing an evil bidding so they could get the throne and power that they soon desired so much. In (Act 1 scene 5) Lady Macbeth had summoned an evil spirit to take away her decency and fill it with evilness and sinfulness so she could block out the guilt that would come her way. She knew that Macbeth was too full of human affection so she said she would spill her evilness into his ear just so she can get him to do the evil deed of killing King Duncan. Lady Macbeth compares to a manipulative kind of bully who can easily trick you with her influences and controlling manner. If Lady Macbeth was never so power hungry for power after what the witches told her and Macbeth than Macbeth would probably never have done what he had to King Duncan and Macbeth wouldn’t have changed and turned into a dominate, cowardly, manipulative bully. After Lady Macbeth spilled her malicious and devious ways into Macbeth, he turned and took advantage of King Duncan, because in act 1 scene 4 Macbeth said to King Duncan “ The service and the loyalty i owe in doing it pays itself”(Shakespeare 223). Basically Macbeth was saying he has
In the play Macbeth Macbeth is fueled by power and every decision he makes is to gain more power. When the witches prophesize that he will become king power is all he can think about. He begins to lose his sanity in order to gain power and control over everything. When Lady Macbeth hears of Macbeth’s meeting with the witches she begins plotting the death of Duncan in order to get her and Macbeth power. It’s easy to see power has made her think this way when she says, “ hie thee hither, that I may pour my spirits in thine ear and chastise with the valor of my tongue all that impedes thee from the golden round” (1.5.15-8). This quote shows that Lady Macbeth thinks Macbeth wants to be king, but isn’t willing to do what is necessary to get. Her
Could Macbeth influence your kids not to bully? Bullying is where another person picks on or messes with another person just for the enjoyment or because of their personal life. In Macbeth the characters show terror of how characters fear Macbeth. It shows imbalance of power when Macbeth thinks he controls people. It shows intent of harm when Macbeth kill people. How bullying was shown in Macbeth, show what happened and how it compares to bullying.
Lady Macbeth understands Macbeth’s lust for the throne, and lusts for it herself. She also understands his ambition, but feels that her husband might regret and decide against killing Duncan to steal his throne, as she regards to Macbeth as “full o’ the milk of human kindness” (1.5.4). Since Lady Macbeth fears that Macbeth would turn against her and not go through with the plan, she decides that it must be up to her to get it done correctly. She asks that only the “direst cruelty” (1.5.33) fill her, as she gathers everything that is evil to her in order to murder Duncan. Even though Macbeth was hesitant over the idea of murdering Duncan, his wife convinces him that acting on his impulse of killing Duncan is the right thing to do. This shown when Macbeth starts to second guess the thought of murdering his king, and that it should not be done. However, his wife verbally harasses him into agreeing. Lady Macbeth questions his love for her, questions his masculinity, and criticizes his desire to be king by saying, “When you durst do it, then you were a man; And to be more than what you were, you would Be so much more the man” (1.5.49-51). As his successfully offends him, he decides that he needs to prove his manhood, his love of his wife, and his ambition to be king, he agrees to murder Duncan.
The position of power Macbeth gained as King of Scotland was overruled by the actual power of greed, selfishness, and relentlessness to maintain the power resulted in Macbeth to commit murderous crimes and become his own adversary. Carolyn Asp stated, “As Macbeth accepts a false masculinity that simultaneously fosters the illusion of his godlike power and diminishes his total human development, he is alienated from the very society that inculcates the stereotype.” Macbeth became his own worst enemy when he tried to prove his
Lady Macbeth- the malicious mastermind, and the second driving force behind the murders done by Macbeth, had believed that by portraying a man’s ways, she would attain power-for her and her husband, and gain whatever they needed without remorse or sorrow. Lady Macbeth urges Macbeth to frame two guards by getting them intoxicated and even prepares the murder scene for Macbeth to take King Duncan's life. Macbeth even questions his loyalty and righteousness in this moment by saying, “But in these cases, we still have judgment here…bloody instructions…return to plague the inventor” and . . .” He is here in double trust; first as I am his kinsman and his subject, strong both against the deed; then as his host” (I.VII.7-14). This just
To illustrate , Lady Macbeth influenced Macbeth because she was greedy for kingdom of Scotland . In act 1 scene 7 it shows how Macbeth will fight for crown which he pledges to have or he lives as a coward.Lady Macbeth tells Macbeth “ Are you afraid to act the way you desire?,will you take the crown you wanted so badly or live as coward ” . regarding this quote clearly shows us how lady Macbeth is making fun of Macbeth to make sure Macbeth proves himself as to kill Duncan
At the start of the play, Lady Macbeth was “in control” of Macbeth. He listened to her and done everything Lady Macbeth told him to do to prove of himself to her. Although Macbeth was then the King of Scotland, he was not always the king. The way he actually became king was because of Lady Macbeth. She came up with an evil plan to murder the original king was named Duncan. Macbeth was against this plan at first: “We will not proceed no further in this business” (1.7.31). Then, after Lady Macbeth used her controlling ways, he changed his mind. Lady Macbeth questioned Macbeth’s manhood (1.7.35-44). Macbeth felt as
It all began when Lady Macbeth's craving to have power overtook every part of her body. When inviting King Duncan to sleep over at her house, Lady Macbeth took this to her advantage by tempting Macbeth to do the unthinkable: killing the King. Despite the fact Macbeth was terrified to do it, she convinces him to do so by degrading him and saying “Fie my lord, fie, a soldier, and afeared?” at lines 32 and 33 from Act 5, scene 1. She believed that no one would even think of blaming them because Macbeth was such a noteworthy soldier to Duncan. At the lines 34 and 35 when she says “Yet who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him?”, she realizes that even if Duncan bid farewell to this world, his death left behind an enormous amount of consequences and conflicts that now stain her hands from the metaphorical blood still running from his body. Macbeth never thought of killing Duncan until Lady Macbeth administered the situation and controlled every move Macbeth made, as if he was her puppet.
After the prophecies were put forward to Macbeth stating that he would one day have the "golden round" upon his head, Macbeth became paranoid and power hungry. He could not get the idea of being the king out of his head and he had no remorse as he killed many men with a passion, in order to climb the social hierarchy. Each death marked another step closer to Kingship. It is fair to say that Macbeths habits lived by the witches philosophy of life, "fair is foul, and foul is fair", because each time "the devil speaks true", the more ambitious Macbeth becomes. Lady Macbeth is a strong influence on Macbeths ambitions as she manipulates him about his masculinity and bravery, "when you durst do it then you were a man". She questions his courage and manliness as she wielded enormous influence upon his mind, leading him to take drastic actions to prove his worth. Macbeth rises to his ladies challenge and takes "foul" and unjust actions in doing so. He orders the murder of anyone who threatened his position, alike Macduff and his family, and even took extraordinary measures of killing his best friend in order to protect the throne. Ultimately, Macbeth's ambitions increase after he comes across the witches and their prophecies. Lady Macbeth employed self-doubt upon Macbeth by implying he was
The witches manipulate Macbeth into becoming a murdering, power-hungry evil being, by telling him, “someday you’ll be king.” “I'll drain him dry as hay. Sleep shall neither night nor day Hang upon his penthouse lid. He shall live a man forbid. Weary sev'n nights, nine times nine, Shall he dwindle, peak, and pine.” (I,i) The witches use the two other prophecies to get in the mind of Macbeth. They say that Macbeth will be Thane of Cawdor, and Banquo will be the father of future generations of kings. Though his bark cannot be lost, Yet it shall be tempest-tossed.They give Macbeth a false sense of security with the visions they perceive. These influential women are the ones that instill the idea of murdering the king. Macbeth lets greed get the best of him. The witches sway Macbeth into killing Duncan for the throne. “Fair is foul, and foul is fair.” (I,i) The Witches intend to turn Macbeth from his good ways, into something evil. As the only character that understands their cruelty, the witches want Macbeth dead. The witches give Macbeth the temptation to kill the king by telling him their prophecies. In the end,
After hearing the prophecy that he will become king, Macbeth resolves to leave his future up to fate proving his pride and prestige are very important to him. Once he is told of Malcolm being named successor to the throne, Macbeth decides that if he is going to reach his goal he cannot leave it up to luck. Again Macbeth’s resolve to murder Duncan wavers when he leaves the grand banquet to assess his situation and decide whether he wants to proceed. His arguments include wishing to keep his honor and not kill Duncan for Duncan is there ‘in double trust’. Thus, Macbeth is shown to be clinging to his honor. Finally, Macbeth must stand his ground one last time against his wife who uses tact to emasculate Macbeth. In his final attempt to stop the whole ordeal before it can start Macbeth tells Lady Macbeth that he does not want to ‘cast aside’ the honor he has just recently received. Unfortunately, Lady Macbeth will have none of what her husband is saying and so convinces Macbeth to follow through with his plan of murdering King Duncan. Hence, the audience is given the first example of how powerful selfish motives are and how quickly they can spread to others along with cause them to perform unthinkable
The Untrue Love In William Shakespeare's Macbeth, the relationship of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth changes throughout the play because it was not built on good foundation. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were not able to understand each other. However, unfortunately, both of them destroyed themselves and their relationship by their actions throughout the play.
Macbeth's ambition also influenced his downfall. However, Macbeth's ambition had not been strong enough to carry the motive to kill King Duncan. Lady Macbeth's influence also comes into play because if not for Lady Macbeth, his ambition would not have been strong enough to drive him to obtain and maintain his title of King of Scotland no matter what it took, even if it meant murder. Macbeth's ambition blinded him of the moral thing to do and his conscience no longer had any say in what Macbeth did to maintain his thrown. These events taking place in his life caused us to see a new side of Macbeth. This new side of Macbeth contained greed, violence, and power hunger. Macbeth illustrates this side until the last act when he says, “that keep the word of promise to our ear, and
Once Macbeth possessed the power of being Thane of Cawdor he began to exhibit more greed. He has just been given such a huge responsibility and once he was given new power, he craved more; especially when he stumbled upon the witches. He liked the power that he had and wanted to gain more, no matter what he has to do to get it. Macbeth had an encounter with the three witches and they had told him that he will become the next king. Although the witches did say this it did not mean that it was certain, it was just a possibility. But when Macbeth realized the opportunity for power he knew he wanted to become the king. This passage was in part of the letter that Macbeth wrote to Lady Macbeth: “Whiles I stood rapt in the wonder of it came missives from the King, who all-hailed me ‘Thane of Cawdor,’ by which title, before, these Weird Sisters saluted me and referred me to the coming on of time with ‘Hail, king that shalt be’” (1.5.6-10). . It seems as if the power and greed now had full control over him, he is doing things that he wouldn’t do when he did not have all this power. This is the first time that we see this side of Macbeth, the side of him that is greedy for power and is willing to kill the king to do so. In the beginning of the play the thought of being Thane of Cawdor never even crossed his mind, and by no means being
Selfish desires and ambitions can have great sovereignty over one's actions as their thirst for power only grows. In the play, a loyal, honourable hero transforms into an evil murderer which is driven by his greed and ambition. Macbeth is portrayed as a brave, loyal and courageous nobleman who is incapable of committing evil deeds. Nevertheless, this changes when the witches prophecies are introduced which causes macbeth to think about his aspirations for power and his nobility ranking. He betrays king Duncan when he kills him and obtains the Scottish throne for himself. An example of his loyalty in the beginning of the play in the place when king Duncan thanks Macbeth for his bravery and victory in the battle; Macbeth responds and says, “The service and loyalty I owe, In doing it, pays itself. Your Highness’ part is to receive our duties, and our duties are to your throne and state children and servants. Which do what they should, by doing everything safe toward your love and honour” (I, iv, 25-30). Macbeth is pleading a great deal of loyalty by expressing that serving him is its own reward and
