Regardless of the age, gender, and past of the boys prior to and as well as their time spent on the island, the boys should be held accountable for the murder of Piggy and Simon in addition to the attempted murder of Ralph. The murder of the innocent young simon and piggy was wrong and deserve no justification, and no matter where you are in the world the thought and action of killing another human should always be followed by consequences. A reasonable explanation as for why the boys should receive a punishment for their actions is because of the fact that they grew up in society from the day they were born up until the day they boarded that plane. Since they grew up in society, they had been able to observe the way people act in public …show more content…
Mostly all of the boys that were living on the island had experienced symptoms of ptsd. The children experience ptsd through nightmares and and frightening thoughts as well as avoidance. The younger boys show avoidance when they lose interest in play which had become “aimless and trivial” (59). The older boys also show avoidance, for they show it through denial. “ its was dark. Their was that bloody dance... we was scared.” this shows avoidance because they do not want to believe that they had any part in the death of simon. The boys should not be punished because when simon came crawling out of the woods their fear overtook their control over their actions consequently leading to a flight or fight reactions that ultimately killed simon. Considering the previously stated the children who took part in the homicide still need to learn the consequence to their actions. Ptsd can be taken into consideration, but for some of the boys like rodger they already had evil motives inside. Rodger had always had a joy for others pain while on the island, for he was a natural born bully and he shows this through his action such as when he “ picked up a stone, aimed, and threw it at henry.” (62). This gives evidence that ptsd cannot be a reason for all of the actions the boys committed when we
This fear stems from being a bunch of innocent boys stranded in the heat of war on an island in the middle of the Pacific. At first there is no fear if anything there is joy; “there is an air of adventure and even celebration at their newfound freedom from grownups.” (Document A) But as night slowly descends over day their fears grip them. At first these fears are simple nightmares or ideas that make no sense, but over time their fears are exerted onto the island.
There is many examples of differences and similarities of good vs. evil between these boys. At the end of the day these were very young boys put into a horrendous situation that most adults couldn't even handle. Human nature came out in these boys and they just handled it in many different ways but also in many similar ways. I believe their behavior on the island really stemmed from their lives away from the island and their maturity levels for sure. Maybe think about what would be dangerous for you on an island now and if you would succumb to
All people who are separated from civilization for a long duration of time will be drive in to savagery. It is human nature for people to become fierce, wild, and uncivilized savages when separated from civilization. The boys on the island were once civilized British schoolboys who now have ended up as cold blooded murders and traitors. The boys no longer care about living conditions they only care about having fun. The boys have no structured civilization which ultimately leads to there plunge in to savagery.
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, on an island, without adult supervision, a little boy was murdered. But this case isn’t about that little boy, this case is about a little boy who is still alive and breathing. The prosecution is here to tell you that this 12 year old boy belongs in prison, possibly for up to 10 years, robbing him of his remaining childhood. Ralph has been accused of voluntary manslaughter. He has been accused of, in a fit of passion and fear, speeding Simon’s departure from this world. But if we examine the facts, we know he did not play an active role in the other young man’s death. It has been verified by multiple witnesses, including the now deceased Piggy that Ralph was outside the killing circle. He saw the act but he didn’t
One of the strongest forms of adversity came in the form of a strong and outspoken boy Jack; Jack often overwhelms and disregards things that Ralph, the chief of the boys on the island, has said to be done. Ralph, we can see, struggles to hold his control over the group of boys when Jack refuses to believe the importance of these jobs. Ralph’s biggest struggle against adversity against Jack happens during a time of
If you introduce dangerous and unstable people into the population the chances of violence and chaos increase dramatically, particularly when these people gain positions of power, which tend to appeal to charismatic psychopaths. As the boys time on the island progresses it becomes apparent that Rodger is likely a Psychopath, and Jack seemingly has narcissistic personality disorder. Their presence on the island, particularly Jack’s, as he tries to fill the role of chief, make the perfect conditions for violent outbreaks to occur. Even Ralph, who is one of the more reasonable boys on the island finds himself falling into the same sort of violent behavior as the other boys, and losing sight of their goal of being rescued, as Ralph tells Piggy of his growing concern, he says “They don’t care... and what's more, I don’t sometimes. Suppose I got like the others- not caring. What would become of us?” (Golding, 139) The situation is only exasperated when the boys, tired of following Ralph’s instructions and being forced to work break off to follow Jack, where violence is more accepted and even encouraged. Under these conditions the boys quickly progress from killing and hunting the pigs inhabiting the island to killing both Simon and Piggy, and attempting to hunt and kill Ralph. The boys act together as a pact, doing things they would not do as individuals because they gain a feeling of anonymity from being a part of a group that allows them to justify their heinous acts to themselves. This allows them to act on the evil existing within them without having to deal with the
After the boys were rescued by the naval officer, they were likely to struggle with the terrors that took place on the island. In all probability, the prevailing boys were offered medicinal and psychological treatment in order to suppress their reactions to death, mourning, and the understanding of the severe revelation that Simon and Piggy, their associates in school, experienced a barbarous demise. It would’ve been a while before they could return to civilization as functioning citizens, but with some intensive therapy, they would’ve been prepared to come back to society as purified and cathartic pre-adults.
“The thing is - fear can’t hurt you anymore than a dream.” (Golding, 116). Jack’s completely false point of view of the hazardous emotion is declared within the quote. Jack is one of the antagonists derived from William Golding’s esteemed bestseller, Lord of the Flies. In the renowned novel written by Golding, young boys in a plane have crashed and descended upon an uninhabited island with more than sufficient vegetation. At first, order and tranquility were established by the children and there was more civilization on the island compared to savagery. However, as the novel advanced, the readers could identify the kids were suffering from the persistent terror on the island because of isolation. Gradually disorder possessed most of the boys’ minds and therefore had inaugurated
Jack and the rest of the boys are looking around trying to contemplate all that just had happened. A naval officer had just put Jack in handcuffs and taken him away with the rest of the boys following. They are all getting on a boat and get shipped back to where they came from, all of the boys were all shocked that they were even getting saved in the first place. All of the officers were asking the boys questions but the boys were too stunned to even speak. For weeks they have dreamed of being saved, of being home, and of their family and finally now it was happening.
Anyone can have a different understanding of what a murder is. Many will understand being civilized is not murder. Everyday there are arguments over murder and civilized deaths. But on the contrary, the definition of these words is not understood under the book of laws. Fictional book “The Lord of The Flies”, written by William Golding , is about a group of children who create parodies in the island, and where they encounter a series of difficulties to survive. The children argue with one another, however, they try to get along with each other. On the other hand, LOST is a fictional Tv show with the same background. LOST is about 48 stranded individuals on an undiscovered island after their plane crashed. They realize by being the only ones
The novel, Lord of The Flies wrote by William Golding is based on the survial of young boys stranded on a island with no adults. The tv show, Lost is based on the survial of plane members traveling after a brutal crash. Through both of the plots, it shows the brutalness of being stranded and the push to survive in the same type of conditions. In both situations the characters are battling with “something” in the jungle and also inner demons they are battling within themselves. They are forced to make disitions that humans shouldn’t have to, or have the power to. So was the deaths of some of these characters accidently ? needed? Or harshley planned?
Survival, for some, comes naturally. Most people don’t spend their days pondering whether they will live to the next day. Yet, for others, it as a challenge and a struggle that requires wit and instinct. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of young boys have to rely on their instincts after they crash-land on an uninhabited island. With no grownups around, they have to learn to live on their own and guide themselves.
The excessive hunting showed how the boys just killed for no apparent reason; this is not a normal thing for an innocent boy to do. It seemed as if all jack wanted to do is hunt instead of caring about protection and shelter. Humans were killed because the boys began to unravel the true nature of humans. Simon died when Jack said "Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill His Blood!" Simon is eventually stabbed with a spear and that causes his death. The boys devour what they believe is the beast (Simon) and even if it was the beast, eating a beast doesn’t sound like what ‘innocent boys’ would do. Piggy’s death of course was most certainly not an accident. Rodger clearly knew what he was doing and he was throwing rocks just aiming to cause harm to someone, the rock hit Piggy and he fell off Castle Rock and died.
First, none of the boys (with the possible exception of Roger) should be officially punished in a court of law. The oldest among them is thirteen, and most of the awful things they did were done collectively. Roger is the exception
Having such a divers array of people living in such close proximity, and not being able to escape one another also influenced the attitudes, and actions of the boys. In normal circumstances, when two people don’t get along it is relatively easy to not be around them, and hang around with others in which your more compatible with. However due to the fact that they are on a rather small island, and that their society only consists of a few people, it is not so easy for rare intellectual to escape people with ideals opposite to their own. Therefore often suffers defeat. This is very true in the case of Piggy.
