The novel, Lord of The Flies wrote by William Golding is based on the survial of young boys stranded on a island with no adults. The tv show, Lost is based on the survial of plane members traveling after a brutal crash. Through both of the plots, it shows the brutalness of being stranded and the push to survive in the same type of conditions. In both situations the characters are battling with “something” in the jungle and also inner demons they are battling within themselves. Also he wasn’t killed or “murdered” against his will. He agreed to let sawyer shoot him, but taking into concideration that he missed, the doctor Jack, couldn’t let him lay there and slowly die. The killing of simon, in LOTF was in my opinion, manslaughter so let me explain, the boys were extremly scared of something in the jungle, they thought there was a huge beast out to get them, when really it was all fear inside them. There was nothing to be scared of excpet themselves. They thought they were killing the beast but they acually killed Simon. The “beast” was unclear to them but they still killed it anyways, which happened to be Simon. They didn’t have intentions to kill him, but they still did. Out of just being reckless and stupid they took his life. So I would call that manslaughter. Piggy’s death, wasn’t an accident, he was being a leader maybe even a little bossy, and Roger, leaned against a big rocki and it went over the lever and fell on top of piggy and knocked him out, then killing him. In the movie it looked like they were already throwing rocks at him, so it made the incident looked kinda
Murder is defined as an unlawful killing of a reasonable creature in being under the King’s peace with malice aforethought, express or implied.
Especially, meaning that the death of Piggy was not planned in advance, but, intentionally done. On the other hand,it is a felony murder as it was not intended, nor, had they planned for Piggy to be killed. After a few days later of Simon’s death; Ralph, Roger, and Piggy had been roaming around the island and decided to have a tribe meeting with the others. Afterwards, they went to Jack’s camp where they bumped into armed guards who told them to leave. Suddenly, Ralph and Jack started to argue, meanwhile, Piggy was trying to get the others attention with to conch’s rescue alerts. However, Roger decided to shove a massive rock down the side of the mountain, but, before Roger and Jack got hit they had time to dodge it. On the side, Piggy was struck by the boulder and was struck off the mountainside with the shattered conch blown away. Therefore, Piggy’s death was instant after getting struck by the massive boulder (document f).
“The unlawful premeditated killing of one human being from another,” is the basic definition for murder. Unlawfully killing someone and having no reason of killing him/her is murder, there just isn’t any argument for it. In ‘Lamb to the Slaughter’ by Roald Dahl, Mary Maloney is a housewife married to Patrick Maloney in the 1950s. He tells her something she doesn’t want to hear, more than likely it’s a divorce, and she still decides to cook dinner for him. She takes a frozen leg lamb they were going to eat that night and hits him over the head with it. Cold blood murderer, that it was she is. Mary Maloney is a conniving criminal and aware of and responsible for her actions due to her ability to manipulate others through her actions. This makes her guilty of her conviction. Mary Maloney is guilty because of her manipulation to others, she acted like she was panicking about his death, and at the end, she had a devilish laugh because she knew she got away with murder.
William Golding’s The Lord of the Flies: A Sadistic Society of Self-Destruction (and What We May Do to Fix It)
A “rock [that] struck [Piggy] a glancing blow from chin to knee” caused Piggy’s death (Golding 181). Piggy did not see the rock coming because he was not wearing his glasses. When the boulder hit him, he was holding the conch, and it was destroyed. Piggy’s death represents the boys’ lack of desire to remain civilized because Piggy was not wearing his glasses at the time of his death. The destruction of the conch by the boulder represents the boys becoming full savages who have no civilized authority. Roger killed Piggy on purpose and “with a sense of delirious abandonment, leaned all of his weight on the lever” which caused the boulder to roll down the hill (Golding 180). The fact that the boys killed Piggy on purpose shows that they wanted to be savage. By killing Piggy, they killed their civilization, their will to be civilized, and their civilized
