P.A.M. Many are unclear on the differences between public relations, advertisement, and marketing. They are very different and each has distinct characteristics that define their roles in the workforce. When public relations, marketing, and advertisement are used together they can be used to form a very successful plan if used to their full advantages.
Worldwide, people aren’t sure what public relations role is in the workplace. Public relations is a planned communication that builds relationships between organizations (What is Public Relations). Someone who works in the public relations field can find themselves doing a number of tasks daily. Planning, implementing, researching, and evaluating are just some of the key tasks when working in the field (What is Public Relations). The main goal of public relations is building a reputation for a company since in today’s competitive market reputation can make or break a company. The main goal of public relations is to manage and spread information to create a favorable image for the organization through various media outlets. (Public Relations).
When someone mentions the word advertisement the most common things to come to mind are, newspaper, billboards, and commercials. Advertising is used in the public to get the word out that a new product is here. Advertising informs people that this product may be something that they like and is useful to them. Without advertising, many companies would not be able to preserve their business. Companies have to make sure they efficiently inform the public what their product does because if the public has no understanding of the product, they most likely will not buy it. Advertisements are first used locally and can eventually become nationally if the business is doing well and properly informing the consumers about the product and its purpose. This can be done using social media, newspapers, magazines, or bill boards if they are wealthy enough.

I do not know much about public relations (PR), but if I can attempt to put it in a single definition it would be the communication or process in connecting to the mass media. The mass media is any consumer, voter or supporter of that particular company or person. When I envision what a person might do in a career in public relations I immediately think of Olivia Pope from ABC’s popular show Scandal. Public relations is involved with creating press releases, curating charities and essentially anything that will helps improve that business’ brand or that party’s’ image significantly. Unlike a management position, public relations comes in and consults during a crisis or scandal that affects the public and leaves when the situation is resolved.

I believe that A Farewell to Arms should not be banned because it brings to light many different viewpoints about the war as well as strong literary strategies beneficial to good writing.
