Mr. Williams gave me a tour of the facility. The repository is located on the fifth floor of a beautiful new building which is an addition to the library. It is a 140,000 square foot building with many new amenities for the students. The fifth floor also holds the library’s historical collections, a state of the art archival storage and also houses a special area for archival preservation. It is appropriately named as well. Fr. Hesburgh was an influential leader on campus and throughout the world; he was an advocate for peace rather than violence. Under his tenure, the first female class was admitted into the university, and after serving as president, he was able to witness the first African-American valedictorian. I am sure a dream of Fr. The Rehoboth Beach Public Library was established by local service organization the Village Improvement Association (VIA) in 1912 in order to provide free access to books for the community. In its early years the library moved between VIA member’s homes and public spaces. The library quickly grew, and by 1915 had a collection of 600 books with 233 borrowers. In June 1942 the State Library Commission designated space for the library at City Hall where it remained for 43 years. Gilbert also designed the United States Supreme Court Building in Washington DC. The Detroit Board of Education opened a library with a public reading room on March 25, 1865 in the old Capitol High School. The site which I have selected for my site research paper, is the Jefferson Country Library located in 425 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY, 10011. I believe this site is a good match for this paper and this class because not only is it an ordinary library, it also holds many historical events. First and foremost, the Jefferson Country Library was originally a courthouse. There was a civil court on the second floor, which is now the Adult Reading Room and a police court, which is now the first-floor Children's Room. Also, the Reference Room was a holding area for prisoners that were on their way to jail or trial.

Many do not know that the IMA houses two different libraries. The Stout Reference Library and the Horticultural Society Library provide numerous resources for their visitors, which mainly consist of students, IMA Staff, docents, collectors, researchers and even members of the community. The Stout Reference Library “focuses on the encyclopedia collection of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, while also providing general information about art and art history of all periods.” (Stout Reference Library, 2017) The Horticultural Society Library “houses more than 2,000 volumes, including general reference books and books on landscaping, specific plant families and horticulture.” (Horticultural Society Library, 2017) I mention the libraries because this semester, I am technically considered a library and archives intern at the IMA. My mentor however is the archivist, Samantha Norling. She has done impressive work at the IMA in such a short time. She jump-started the Archives online portal, which consists of thousands of digitized items from the archives. The IMA received a “generous grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)” (Documenting Modern Living, 2017), that allowed for 17,000 items from the Miller House and Garden archival collection to be digitized.

The mission of ALCTS (Association for Library Collections & Technical Services) is “to shape and respond nimbly to all matters related to the selection, identification, acquisition, organization, management, retrieval, and preservation of recorded knowledge through education, publication, and collaboration.” ("Mission & History"). The ALCTS original began in 1957 and was known at the time as Resources and Technical Services Division (RTSD). Today the ALCTS has over 4,000 members from across the world, who are devoted to the technical services within libraries ("About Us"). The purpose of the ALCTS is to educate, advice, and inform members of the technical services field about changes and practices within the field ("About Us").

The collection I choose to review was the New York Public Library. Their mission is to inspire lifelong learning, advance knowledge and strengthen our communities. The collections they have fit their mission to a tea. Most of their collection is of library building or things that is in reference to the library. The collection in my opinion represents learning. When I see libraries I instantly think of books. Books change people lives, attitudes and behavior, it and inspire people to do things and want more it gives us knowledge and inspire.

Assessment must be done to determine the current strengths and weaknesses of the existing collection. Any proposed acquisitions should be able to address the limits in the existing collection or plug any gaps in the collection. The acquisition strategy should ensure that objects to be accepted or otherwise acquired for museum collection shall enhance and reflect the immediate and long term goals of the museum.

Chicago has a long history of magnificent and eye-catching buildings. They have forever been ingrained in the memory of all that live in the Chicago area. One of these is the John Hancock Center. Not to be confused with the John Hancock Tower, the JHC stands at 343.7 meters. When it was finally built in 1968, it was the tallest building in the world (outside of New York City.) It is currently the third-tallest building in Chicago, after the Sears (now Willis) Tower and Trump Tower.

Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience to advocate for the preservation of public libraries in America.
