Chicago has a long history of magnificent and eye-catching buildings. They have forever been ingrained in the memory of all that live in the Chicago area. One of these is the John Hancock Center. Not to be confused with the John Hancock Tower, the JHC stands at 343.7 meters. When it was finally built in 1968, it was the tallest building in the world (outside of New York City.) It is currently the third-tallest building in Chicago, after the Sears (now Willis) Tower and Trump Tower.
The building has an innovative structure, as it was one of the first buildings to use a technique of pouring concrete in stages. This was, unfortunately, discovered when the building was 20 stories high. Though, the building is 100 stories high, so it helped the
Would you have quit at Valley Forge? Residing in Valley Forge are 12,000 of approximately 25,000 men of the Continental Army. Led by the phenomenal general George Washington, many brave lives are volunteers to fight for independence. Although the Washington’s army was very hopeful, it was having difficulties parting from Britain. Lacking a settlement for the winter of 1777, half the army retreated to Valley Forge. As they were undergoing horrific times, Britain quartered pleasantly in Philadelphia just 18 miles Northwest. Conditions are horrible for Valley Forge, lacking necessities and military aid. Although the French provided money and troops soon after, it was not nearly enough for the camp. The odds aren’t even at all and a troop’s will
Techniques- Facilitated Dialogue, with the audience “What are some motives for you leaving one place or another?”
“The time is now at hand which must probably determine whether Americans are or be Freemen or Slaves.” -George Washington. It all started on a cold and wintry day in December. Soldiers began to make a winter camp at Valley Forge, about 18 miles west of Philadelphia. In October Washington's army retreated from Boston and New York in October, and just recently had failed in keeping the British out of Philadelphia. Philadelphia is the Forming Nation's Capitol. The army retreated to Valley forge, where they would stay for the next many months. They would stay until they could defeat the British in Philadelphia, in which the British set up base comfortably. I am a 9 month soldier, and my contract ends on March first.
While attending Liberty Univeristy, I started out as a Business Major, but after a few accounting classes I decided to be an Accountant. Not only did I find a career path at Liberty, but I also found my life's mate. We have been married for 34 year and our proudest accomplishment in life are our three children. Nathan, recently married and lives in Wisconsin. Both are clinical pharmacists in the hospital setting. Nathan published his first article for the Pharmacy Journal which started sibling riviary. Lauren, is the Production Manager for the White House Historical Association and could't wait to tell her brother that she published two articles. We also visited the White House on several occasions. Our youngest,
Very few Henry County High School athletes go to a big-athletic Division 1 college. An even smaller list went to play pro. There has only been one that has won a championship in the pro leagues. That man is John Lewis Hudson. John was born in Memphis, Tennessee but he grew up in Henry County, where he played football. He was recruited by many colleges. He ended up choosing Auburn, where he would start for 3 years. John said, “I liked Coach Dye and it was a small town. I liked that it was a small town.” He was then drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles and also played for the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens.
You shoot up from your warm bed. You rub the sleep from your eyes and glance at the clock, which strikes 6:10. It seems as though your heart skips a beat. The cozy blankets try to keep you enthralled in their warm grasp as you jump from their reach. The bus to Buffalo leaves in twenty minutes and you should’ve woken up an hour ago. You frantically toss on your oversized sweatshirt and leggings and race to the kitchen, in hope that you have time to sneak a quick bite to eat. As you run in, you see that your mother has made you two slices of toast, crisp and crunchy, spread with a thick layer of creamy, melted butter. While running around the house, munching on the perfectly toasted bread, you quick grab your swimsuit and bag, which
I find myself one of George Washington’s soldiers fighting for the rebels at Valley Forge. Valley Forge is a hard place to live and especially fight, but something’s make more of an impact than other things here. One is that our hearts are constantly filled with smoke and our eyes are constantly affected by this. Another is a sickness, we have thousands of men sick here and many have already died. And one of the main things is that we are running very low on meat and quality food and we are eating low protein food. But despite those things I still have a hard decision to make soon I will have to decide to reenlist or not and go home to my family. I believe that I will reenlist for three reasons which are I need to provide for my family and
Washington D.C was an outstanding experience. It was a very frigid day in November. When we arrived we were all shivering in our boots. The first museum we went to was the Holocaust Museum. The Museum was very depressing. One of the exhibits that was the most depressing were the shoes of the victims who didn't survive the Holocaust. I didn't remember what the quote but it was deep .
The Prairie Meadows Scholarship will help me to pursue an education at the University of Iowa. With the money given I would use it to earn a degree in engineering or a degree dealing something with the law. My favorite subjects in High School were math and science. My whole life math has always come easy to me and for some odd reason I have a passion for math. During my Junior year of High School I took my second physics class and gained an interest in physics. Besides math and science, when I was a young boy I always dreamed of becoming a police detective, I used to run around the house pretending I was getting all of the “bad guys”. Now a days I also find being a lawyer fun and intriguing. I plan on earning my degree and graduation college.
Every March 17th, more than 150 million Americans put on their green hats, and begin celebrating in the memory of St.Patrick, the missionary who first converted the Irish isles to catholicism. More than one hundred years ago, however, such celebrations would have caused rioting- and even turf wars between Irish Catholics and ‘Native American’ Protestants. In today’s society protestant-catholic sectarianism is limited to the far flung corners of Ulster and Belfast. However, in the mid 1800s, cities like New York or Philadelphia were on the verge of civil war, stopped only by the toils, kindness and wisdom of ‘The Dagger’ John Hughes, the naturalized Irish born archbishop of New York in the mid 1800s.

Imagine being in this person’s shoes. A masculine young fellow that has been doing this for over 16 years. Backstage, you are walking towards the stage getting pumped and ready to entertain the thousands in the crowd and the millions watching at their television sets. As you approach the curtains, you hear your theme song playing. You hear the crowd getting louder and louder as the anticipation grows. You finally come out on stage in cue. You see the thousands in the crowd screaming as they see you come out of
It is 30 feet at its widest and 20 feet high. It looks like a very large solitaire diamond standing in a golden finding. It is beautiful, sparkling and flashing in the sunlight. This building is unique. Time inside can go on forever, but only seconds pass outside
Hancock Towers is a 334-m (1,127-foot), 100-storey super skyscraper that rests on 875 Avenue of North Michigan in Chicago, United States. The structural engineer involved in the design of the skyscraper was Fazlur Khan while Bruce Graham served as the chief designer. The construction phase was supervised jointly by Owings, Skidmore, and Merrill. After the project was declared complete on May 6, 1968, the structure became the second tallest building in the world. In their article, David and Catherine (16), observed that the building houses restaurants and offices in addition to about 700 condominiums. Hancock Towers relates to the history of civil engineering because its construction involved professionals who are chiefly consulted in the
