Pros Of Vaccination

Decent Essays

Humans have suffered at the hands of disease throughout many years in history. The bubonic plague killed nearly two thirds of the European population. However, science has come a long way and we have developed intelligent medicine to prevent diseases like the Black Death from happening again. Today, many diseases can be prevented through a series of vaccinations. Although, there is a major controversy surrounding the effectiveness and safety of vaccination. Many parents refuse to vaccinate their kids in fear of the health issues vaccinations might inflict. Others believe that immunizations interfere with the natural course of life. Governor Brown recently signed a bill that abolishes personal and religious belief exemptions regarding immunization …show more content…

One popular argument opposing vaccines states that according to the CDC, “all vaccines carry a risk of a life-threatening allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) in about one per million children” (CDC). Senate Bill 277 has not eliminated medical exemptions, therefore, children who might develop an allergic reaction will be prohibited from being vaccinated. This allergic reaction caused by vaccines is also rare and its rewards are well worth the risk. Studies conducted in the US and Europe have found no association between the MMR vaccine and autism (American Academy of Pediatrics). Many parents have been concerned about vaccinations because they believe it’s a probable cause for autism but no study has proven a connection between the two. Vaccines are thoroughly examined by scientists, doctors, and health experts before being released to ensure the safety of the public. The viruses and bacteria that cause illness and death still exist and can be passed on to those who are not protected by vaccines (NFID). As long as a person is not vaccinated for a virus, that virus has the chance of latching itself onto the host and feeding off of them like a parasite. If vaccines are distributed unanimously so that a virus has no host to infect it will eventually die off instead of mutating and evolving as it is passed down from person to person. Governor Brown believes “the science is clear that vaccines dramatically protect children against a number of infectious and dangerous diseases” (Brown). Governor Brown has at his hands, information from years of research by credible scientists. Science and research have proven over and over again that vaccines prevent infectious diseases from spreading. Immunization requirements in schools protect children from viruses they can pass on to each
