The Columbine High School Shooting was a tragic day for many 2 students Dylan and Eric killed 14 students died and 1 teacher in the most infamous school shooting of its time. Many wonder what caused these 2 students to decide to shoot up their school. Some say it was bullying others say it was because they were a part of a school group called the trench coat mafia. Dylan in the investigation was seen as the “The Depressive” Dylan was told to be depressed as he referred to people as zombies. By reading the book, it is very easy to assume that both Eric and Dylan were depressed and did not feel like they were treated fairly. Eric was the more violent of the two, although both had significant dealings with the shootings taken place. Their illnesses brought them together, making them feel as if they clicked or understood each other more than anyone else.

It was a highly planned attacked that included a bomb to confused firefighters, propane tanks that were made into bombs to blow up the cafeteria, 99 explosive device, and some car bombs. The masterminds were Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, they were both seniors. Collaboratively they murdered 12 students and 1 teacher. Aside from the kills they injured 21 other people, and an additional 3 more while trying to escape the horrendous event. After their killing rampage, the murderers committed suicide.

School shootings are terrifying and a big problem in today’s society. Schools have added lockdown drills, bullet proof glass and metal detectors. School should be a safe area for children to learn instead of fearing for their life. Instead of buying metal detectors and hiring more officers, there is a much easier solution in order to decrease and prevent school shootings. We have to be more alert about securing weapons at home and being aware of suspicious behavior at school in order to keep children and faculty safe.

One of the first major school shootings that brought attention to gun violence in America was the shooting at Columbine High School in 1999.
