Censorship and its Caveats on Society From books to the internet, it is very easy to get any information quickly. Although this may be true you can’t find everything you may be looking for, there are things out there that are censored. Censorship is the restriction of certain information to one or a group of people, from others who think it’s dangerous. Censorship can be used in beneficial ways to protect people, but it is often misused to harm people long-term. Here is some information about some negative impacts of censorship. Why is censorship bad if used for a prolonged period of time?
There are many pros and cons of censorship some of them are very bad in the long run. Some examples are that sex-related topics being censored can be

It’s abused by people who have the power to make themselves look better.
Other problems with censorship are that it doesn’t allow a true education and learning foundation in school. When students look for knowledge or veracity to learn to discriminate and end up finding evidence. They make bad decisions without a full understanding of said evidence. Students end up not being as intellectual and lack an emotional growth because of some censorship throughout their school.
Censorship might keep our youth population innocent at first but it does not allow a complete knowledge to be learned. Sometimes hiding things from them can leave them curious to find out. Most likely they end up finding certain information and not understanding it completely. Likewise, they later make a claim or statement that isn’t supported and could end up getting them in trouble. Students always end up not knowing as much and allows them to make unreasonable claims. They don’t always end up getting a full understanding of things and end up jumping to conclusions because of this. “The American Library Association opposes censorship and urges you to do so, too” (Censorship in Schools).
Due to the direction censorship is heading in things are getting worse. There are many ways to bypass them. Everyone doesn't think information should be available to everyone. Everyone who wants to censor the internet wants everyone’s information to be accessible. Governments have the power to oppress their
Censorship is the assassination of ideas. It causes people to be ignorant which makes them not pay any attention to the world around them. Many people see what is happening right in front of them but choose to not direct their attention, not knowing if something terrible is going on. Censorship conceals all the things that would make people have their own voice. It prevents all of the ideas that are made from people to be heard.
Censorship has been adopted in many societies as well as the governments of our world. As the history of the world expands we see many countries try to censor what their citizens see. When the countries do this they are not assisting the country, they are leading it into a self-destruction. A good example of this would be America in Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. This nation is destroyed in a futuristic war that only lasts a couple of minutes, if not seconds. Other fitting examples include the Nazi regime and the Soviet Union, both governments censoring their population in what they could read, write, and see. As we know both of these governments did not succeed and ultimately were obliterated and the countries were punished. Government censorship not only wounds the ability for people to grow and expand in their thought process, but it eventually causes the ultimate self-destruction of the nation.
Censorship is the censoring of forms of media like books or TV because they are deemed immoral or inconvenient. Censorship should not be justified in any form because censorship can be harmful to society. There are numerous examples of how censorship can damage a society in the book Fahrenheit 451 and in society. In Fahrenheit 451, it is shown how censorship affects their society negatively, and in society it can be seen how censorship affects many. Censorship can harm society by leading people to be unknowledgeable, and censorship allows people to have a narrow perception of society.
Censorship may not always be right on things. Censorship can impact our society. I agree that censorship can be a bad thing due to the fact, FCC is planning on increasing our net neutrality by limiting our access online. In my opinion, I find a good thing because of many reasons like websites such as Omegle, PornHub, and lastly Match. Back to the point, censorship does not have to impact our world as long as we do not do anything that can concern our world by doing stuff online that affects us by increasing our bill.
Censorship is the act of filtering what an audience of something hears and sees. This is an effective method for mothers to protect their children from being exposed to things they do not fully understand, however it can be harmful once it is put into the hands of the government, because it crosses some moral and ethical lines. It violates the people’s right to freedom of expression. It would also make it much simpler to hide information from the people or to give them false information in the form of propaganda. Therefore, censorship is both positive and negative and its power should be left in the hands of parents rather than the government.
Many censorship occurs in schools today. As many are for the censoring of material, many are also against it. Behind each stand, are different opinions and reasons? The reasons to be against
Censorship has been around for millions of years. Although censorship is still practised in some countries today, almost anyone would agree that censorship is never the right answer; as we have seen in the past, it has seldomly ever works out. Which is why it is so concerning that schools are starting to allow censorship in classrooms. As a result of this, the world is seeing an alarming amount of young millennials who are fresh into the workforce, expecting to always be catered to. More and more millennials are not being properly prepared for the real world due to censorship in schools; schools have been giving in and catering to students by allowing the censoring of books and microaggressions in the classroom, as a result the students are being taught that the world will cater to everyone, which is very inaccurate.
In todayś society we face many objections, as to how things are and how it will effect others. Essentially, we can see censorship and other objections occuring more often throughtout our history. Movies, books, Plays, etc. are currently and continuously being revised and looked over for the reason of censorships that happen throughout the school in thus nation. This comenly is occuring more throughtout schools. As parents, and teachers don´t want to obeject there kids or students to things that ¨need¨ or should be censored; such as bad language, vulgur meanings/saying and more often sex and drugs. Which under many advisments could be a nessesarry thing. Overall I do not agree to the censorship in school to an extent.
“Censorship is harmful because it results in the opposite of true education and learning.” (American Library Association). If students are only learning certain topics, then they might start to discriminate against the situations they don’t understand because no one has taught them before about the subject. They might also learn “to make decisions irrationally in light of the evidence.” This is why the American Library Association is against censorship.
Overall governments, organizations, and those in power often times use censorship in order to shelter or hide things from people. For example, when a parent is just doing what is best for their kid and doesn’t just let them do whatever they want. There is always a reason, often times thought to be protection. However it could potentially be more, perhaps manipulation? Whatever may be the reason censorship will remain a vastly used form of restriction that some may just need to learn to
Some would argue that if you censor books, it prevents youth from gaining access to books that are not age appropriate. Age appropriate is different for each age and person so you can't always tell what is and isn't age appropriate. It is impossible to know whether or not a book is appropriate for someone. This goes against the other claims about not censoring books in schools and
Censorship in U.S. law occurs if the media displays excessive or graphic violence, has mature content that is not appropriate for young audiences or contains matters that are kept secret for national security or public safety. How ever censorship in American communities is driven by the belief of the community. It is best seen in American schools like the banning of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The book was first banned in Concord, MA in 1885, people in this community banned the book because they believed that the book was racist for its use of the N word. Other communities like in Kansas banned the teaching of evolution in public schools. Censorship could have a negative effect in
Many students, parents and teachers may think this is a bad thing but they don’t understand that censoring some things may have some benefits rather than being all bad.
If it is uncomfortable to read and discuss, so be it. Most things that matter deeply are.” -USA Today. Today Censorship also affects more than the children though. It really affects everyone equally. It allows the government to have too much control over what we learn and know. What if we lived in a dystopian society. For example, if you’ve ever seen the movie or read the book The Giver by Lois Lowry, the city kept everyone from learning about the world’s past and why they have to obey their rules and only their rules and do whatever job they assign them. Private groups and public authorities in various parts of the country are working to remove or limit access to reading materials, to censor content in schools, to label controversial views. Most people believe that free communication is essential to the preservation of a free society and a creative culture. Another touchy topic about they types of censorship we have is open religion. We have the Freedom of Religion. But many schools don’t allow religious practices, teachings, or even how they dress. What’s wrong with anyone expressing their religion and how they think of God peacefully and freely? America is
Censorship is very important in relation to a nation, “It restrains vulgarity and obscenity” (Pillai). It helps the nation against any danger. First, it protects military information that could be used for evil, then, it can also help on controlling panic and rumors throughout a nation, “A similar case was observed in India in 2008 when terrorists attacked The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai” (Pillai). Finally, censorship preserves the secrets of the entire nation, secrets that could put nations in danger (Pillai). Censorship can lead to a peaceful society by protecting our secrets from those who want to harm us.
