On a family cruise trip to Jasper this past summer, I had the privilege of meeting the most inspiring individuals. Her name was Zainab, a model of the ideal teenager in nearly every way. Zainab constantly had a smile, and her unwavering politeness earned her the admiration of everyone. She had even brought her schoolwork along for the week-long vacation and could be frequently seen making revisions. She was the model of a driven and determined future doctor with a meaningful future ahead; so it was to my great surprise that her sister informed me of her degenerative affliction, a rare form of granulomatous disease — which tends to limit its victims lifespan to forty years of age, or less. In the film Princess Bride written by William Goldman, Inigo Montoya exhibits a similar kind of perseverance in life, as he sails on a twenty-year journey from the moment his father fell to the blade of the six-fingered man. This theme of perseverance has been a common one ever since we were children. As kids, we begin to idolize famous artists and athletes. We aspire and become determined that one day we will become the new celebrities or famous athletes of tomorrow when in reality we fail to realize that it takes a lot of perseverance and resilience to ever be signed to a record label or compete in the Olympics. The character of Inigo Montaya suggests that perseverance plays a pivotal role in one's life, powering them to overcome struggles and develop resilience even when all odds are against them. Inigo Montoya embodies the essence of perseverance amidst overwhelming odds. Despite the anguish of his past—marked by the brutal murder of his father—Inigo channels his grief into a lifelong mission of unwavering pursuit of vengeance. Instead of becoming a sword maker like his father, his relentless perseverance takes him
Enders Game novel by Orson Scott Card and the film by Gavin Hood had too many differences. The film compared to the book, is practically totally different and had significant changes in the plot line and the setting. The movie was simplified to fit the normal movie length. The age of almost all the characters were changed along with some of their background. Among all the things that were different was also most of the characters development especially, Enders emotional development trough out the movie. There was also differences inside battle and command school. The mistake the director made was probably the ending which was completely changed from the book besides Ender finding the egg. Sadly the film was almost completely different form the book.

There have been many marvelous books given to this world by genius authors. I have discovered a new deep appreciation for written works and their generous offers of knowledge into my mind. Think of it. Literature is a way to spark imagination, adventure, and passion into the dull areas of life. It creates emotion in me and in turn, plays off my emotions to give me a message of some kind. Books have the power to inspire change or purely entertain. In my own personal life, I have read a book that has changed me for the better. William Goldman’s Princess Bride has taught me many simple yet important life lessons. I especially love his clever satire and interesting characters that give me better insight for the world I’m preparing to enter. This

Perseverance is generally known as an admirable trait that has helped peasants become kings, and the weak transform into stronger images of themselves. It is a value that is often strived for, but in Tom Benecke’s case, it almost brought his death. Tom persevered when working on a small sheet of yellow paper that contained innumerable chicken-scratch figures and words. He hoped to slowly be recognized at his job by tirelessly completing extra tasks and jobs that would ultimately lead to his promotion.
As I grew older, the child on the swing set became a sentimental memory, one I thought I would never be able to experience again. Naturally, growing up comes with responsibilities and at the very young age of twelve, I was given the responsibility to serve as a translator for my grandma’s health appointments. As I accompanied her to the appointments I learned about diseases like diabetes, vitiligo and hypothyroidism. This is when I started to develop an interest in medicine and by the time I entered high school I was

Can you truly believe in something you are not sure even exists? Religion has proven that countless times, even though some would argue that there is solid proof of a larger force at work in the universe. It is almost embarrassing how easily we fall for lies because of their extravagance. The Holy Grail is one such lie that did not only spark an interest in people’s minds, but it formed a culture of itself within the Catholic culture, which was composed of scholars and average people who dedicated their lives to be the ones to find it. The title of “The Holy Grail” is attributed to two different ideas, one being a physical object and the other being a dark secret suppressed by the Catholic Church, but both are equally fictitious.

The conclusion of my Internal Medicine clerkship was in Rheumatology. The blend of musculoskeletal disorders, overlapping with different acute and chronic conditions and how debilitating these conditions could become was very powerful to witness. There were many memorable encounters that I was able to experience during my month in Rheumatology. However, I can recall the first patient that encompassed the principles I had learned to appreciate about medicine. This patient had severe Rheumatoid Arthritis with extremely elevated inflammatory markers on a previous visit. When I entered the room, I remember glancing back at the patient and her chart a few times, as she appeared at least ten years younger than what the chart was indicating. After
My constant visit to the doctor’s office due to my asthmatic sister made me envy the professionals who could help her. Questions leaped at me; who figured out that a bronchodilator would subside an asthma attack; how can I be that person? I wanted to be someone who can minimize her suffering and many others. What served as an upward catalyst was one specific and painful moment when the person I loved discovered he had an incurable disease. Seeing the person I love deteriorating in aspects of mental health as well as physical health because a cure is not possible yet irked me to no end.
