According to Rural Health Information Hub (2017), the fundamental purpose of disease prevention is to keep individuals healthy. One implements health promotion interventions in an effort to promote healthy behaviors and to decrease the risks of developing chronic illnesses (RHIH, 2017). According to the ADA (2016) individuals that participate in health promotion behaviors are more likely to have better health outcomes compared to those who do not. The EBP change project has shown that educating patients with prediabetes can increase diabetes knowledge and promote an increase in health promotion behaviors. The EBP change project outcome has indicated that participants who completed the 6-week diabetes education program were able to increase their knowledge regarding type 2 diabetes. Therefore, with the positive outcome of the EBP change project, the EBP change project site can incorporate certain aspects of the diabetes education program into their patient education to increase diabetes knowledge, picking healthier food options and participants in activities that would increase physical fitness.
I chose the article “What factors Hinder Women of Color from Obtaining Preventive Health Care” to review because I found it interesting and full of truths. With that being said, I feel there are so many variable when it comes to woman and healthcare. This article is about a specific report done and all the research that backs up that report. The article explains how the research has regularly provided facts that health care inequalities exist between white and minority woman but more specifically minority women with lower income therefore a lack to access of health care, health care providers, and prevented care. It was in the 1985 Report of the “Secretary’s Task Force on Black and Minority Health” that listed the factors that cause these inequalities in health care among people of color which resulted from a lack of access to health care providers, differences in healthy behaviors, and environmental factors. The 1985 study found that regardless of race, woman of color who had a regular doctor were as likely to receive preventive health care which of course leads to healthier woman.

Health promotion seeks to improve a person or population’s health by teaching about and helps people become more aware of risky behaviors associated with different diseases. The disease progress goes through a series of natural stages (The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada, 2017). Health promotion interventions/preventive measures can be applied during any stage of the process. The interventions and measures are to stop disease progression; therefore, it is a critical step of health promotion. There are many collaborative actions to empower patients to make these decisions based on the best of their interest. Primary, secondary and tertiary prevention are part of the collaborative actions. There are pre-extensive factors such as environment, economic, social, culture, and behavior factors which can increase ones’ risk for disease. The prevention health care is to decease or minimize these risks to hence the outcome. Primary prevention are intervention/measures that assists individuals take actions instead of preventing personal exposure to these risk factors.
