Many people even travel from far away to gather with family members for thanksgiving. This is a special opportunity for them to express gratitude or thanks towards someone that made a difference in their life, or something that played an important role. Everyone has different plans on Thanksgiving, some families travel, others relax. It’s always nice to know how other people celebrate the holiday. Asking about 10 other students what they did on Thanksgiving and traditions, this is what was collected. I found out that not all families have the same kind of Thanksgiving, separating from culture to activities.
The first Thanksgiving was celebrated by the pilgrims after their first harvest which was in New World in October 1621. Thanksgiving became a tradition and was celebrated by many people across the world. This tradition is mostly to be thankful for anything family, friends , teachers etc.
Every year my family celebrates Thanksgiving. It’s meaningful to me because it’s a holiday where family comes together and be with each other. We come together and eat turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and other things. A tradition that we do is take an olive and put it on our right pinkie finger and we go around the table saying what we are thankful and then you eat the olive. Then we all pray and then we eat and talk about family. When we are all done eating, my sisters and I pick up the plates and wash them and put them in the dishwasher for the adults who usually do the dishes all the time. When we are all done doing that, me and my sisters print out a Thanksgiving coloring sheet, like a turkey, and we color it and hang it up as one

When Thanksgiving comes around, we all naturally think What am I thankful for? Some people choose food, wellness, friends, and all other things. Well we got asked that question except who we are thankful for. Who am I thankful for? My brother.
As I woke up in my bed, I knew it was going to be a wonderful and unforgettable day for me. Due to the fact that I was fortunate enough to be able to experience and have a glimpse of what Thanksgiving looks like in America. Before then, what I knew about Thanksgiving were all from the movies, dramas or books that I had watched and read. I knew that Thanksgiving is an important holiday for families and friends to gather together, to celebrate, to feast and to enjoy staying with one another. It is just similar to one of the Chinese traditional festivals, Mid-Autumn Festival. The Full moon symbolizes family reunion in Chinese tradition, so at that time, families will gather together to enjoy the full moon and the traditional type of bakery, mooncakes.
Thanksgiving is fast approaching. Every year, my family and I sit around the table, thankful and grateful of our current situation. We live in a nice, cozy house and this year, our family is hosting a feast with our relatives. There will be a on a whole array of festive food- creamy mashed potatoes with gravy, buttery corn roasted to perfection with a side of flakey biscuits and candied yam. Of course, I can’t forget about the turkey and stuffing; Thanksgiving wouldn’t be the same for us without it. The whole house will be decorated, and all the children will put on their fancy clothes. I can almost hear the faint sound of Charlie Brown coming from the TV in the background. We have it good, but the same cannot be said for the Indigenous people. To me, it’s a holiday where I can spend time with my family. To them, it’s a yearly, painful reminder of the genocide of their people. This year will not be any different for them. This Thanksgiving, they will be sitting out in the freezing cold, protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline to protect their land and the land of millions of people.
