Robert shows power as he says, “‘Strength through discipline. Strength through community’” (Strasser 24) This is the foundation of power for The Wave. The Diary of Anne Frank is a play by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett about two families and a man who go into hiding to keep safe from the Green Police and Hitler. Anne Frank's Diary is not a novel of the imagination. It is a diary kept by a young Jewish girl for the two years she was forced to be brought into hiding by the Nazis of the Jews of Europe. The Wave is a story by Todd Strasser that takes place at Gordon High School during the Vietnam War over a period of nine days, but, this is not just an average high school drama story, there’s much more to it. Mr. Ross, the teacher, tells the …show more content…
First , Otto Frank is as courageous as Superman. This is affiliated with the thematic statement because he have chosen to be brave and out-there as a part of his life. Being courageous is a very challenging goal in life, but Mr. Frank has managed to achieve it. Mr. Frank achieved this when he went downstairs. He could have, by a chance, given his whole family away to the police, but he was so amazingly brave that he took that chance. Mr. Frank is courageous because in the book he claims, “‘If they’ve found us, they’ve found us. Get the water. I’m going down’” (Hackett and Goodrich 60) The first quote proves the first claim made in this paragraph because Mr. Frank goes downstairs and it was very perilous. Since he is so brave, he took that chance so the family formed inside the annex would not live in such panic until Miep came after the weekend. This shows how he isn’t just brave, he goes above and beyond for others’ protection. There are multiple brave people in the world, such as Helen Keller. She overcame the dual disability of being both blind and deaf; many people are now safer with the treatments spreading everywhere. That takes a lot of bravery because she could have disappointed people and wouldn’t have been believed in again. Being …show more content…
Kids were beating each other up because of the wave and Robert was kind enough to step-up to the plate and attempt to keep Mr. Ross safe. Robert shows his bravery in The Wave because he asks responds to Mr. Ross, “‘I’m your bodyguard’”(Strasser 26) The third quote supports the third claim, and this is because Robert took a huge risk and didn’t hesitate and this also shows how loyal he is. He didn’t worry, he just went for it. This is related to Mr. Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank. This because both Mr. Frank and Robert show this by not putting themselves first, even when it may not be the easiest thing to do, they still managed to put on a show. But not for themselves, because throughout everything they are always modest. Somethings are hard to achieve, and by achieving anything like courageousness can result in a well directed lifestyle. Lastly, Robert is good-natured. This supports the thematic statement because he is always a positive person and he is a little desperate. If you are desperate you tend to be really mean, or really nice, but not really in the middle. Robert chose the really kind route. Robert has showed the trait of good-natured throughout The Wave and it
This shows courage because when Ben became a partisan, he was hunted by the police and the Nazis who were trying to kill
A piece of evidence that shows courage is the quote “He ain’t done it! He ain’t burnt…” that shows courage because Sarty thinks they are in court because his father burns down barns so he lies for his father. I believe that shows that he is brave because he is willing to lie in front of everybody including the judge just to protect his father. He did what he thought was right at that moment.
This shows that he is very determined to serve his country despite all the insults that came with it. Desmond's persistence to stay and his ability to stand strong even with all the odds against him, makes him very heroic.
Palmer has shown through these acts that bravery can be seen as both courageous and cowardice and that acts of cowardice can lead to acts of
There are many ways that Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett use to characterize all of the people in “the Diary of Anne Frank”. One way they do this is by showing how Anne is a girl who is interested in everything. “she is thirteen, quick in her movements, interested in everything, mercurial in her emotions.” (Hackett and Goodrich 705). This shows us exactly how Anne’s personality is. Another character that they tell the reader about their personality is Peter Van Daan. “ he is a shy, awkward boy of sixteen…” (Goodrich and Hackett 704). This tells the reader about Peter and how is shy, quiet, and how old he is also. These are a few examples of characterization in the story “the Diary of Anne Frank”
Have you ever heard of the Holocaust? The Holocaust was a terrible time in history when Adolf Hitler was torturing many innocent Jews. He put them in concentration camps, but many tried to hid just like Anne Frank and her family. Anne Frank who was Jew, has a famous quote that says “In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart.” Even though throughout the “Diary of Anne Frank” we see that people are not always the best they could be, I agree with Anne and believe that everyone is still good at heart. One overall reason I chose that people are really good at heart are the acts of kindness Peter has throughout the book to Anne. However, I do know that there are two sides of an argument, I can see how some might
Guided by his undying love for his sister, Robert’s call to action is intrinsically motivated by an ironic catalyst that leads to his own eventual death; the desire to preserve life. At the climax of the novel, Robert’s courage tempers out his Achilles’ heel of introverted moral justness. His ascendance to the position of officer is only natural considering that his resilience and persistence strengthen significantly as he begins to imitate the hero archetype upheld by most war novels, though his concealed struggles with morality and obedience as exposed by his actions confirm him to be a tragic hero. Even with his elevated position, Robert demonstrates many instances of nurturing as he develops into a strong man weathered by the war, as opposed to the typical hardening experienced by most men on the front lines. The telltale quality of morality demonstrated only by a tragic hero is a tragic flaw in itself, as it forces acts that would otherwise be self-indulgent to take on an air of humility. “The man with the broken legs was lying by the water’s edge. He was already the colour of death. … ‘Put that [gas mask] over his face.’” (124) Robert’s dangerous, selfless acts for those who are arguably hopeless are not only consistently futile, but they endanger him and jeopardize
You mostly see good vs. evil in fairy tales and in fiction books. Have you ever witnessed good vs. evil in the real world? One of the themes displayed in The Diary of Anne Frank is “Good vs. Evil”. The good vs. evil is displayed in three different levels, level on is the society as a whole during WWII. The second level is the eight people hiding in the Annex, and the last level is the character of Anne. These show how people were affected during WWII and how others treated others.
Their behavior became more disciplined. In The Diary of Anne Frank, each individual in the Secret Annex, shared the same belief that they would survive. In both perspectives of each story, each individual was no longer who they were. A reason why The Wave relates to the theme of mass conformity under one power because all students, both in sports and class, behavior became more disciplined.
The Diary of Anne Frank is a remarkably moving book about the short life of a young girl and her family. The Holocaust was a horrible time for Jewish people and Anne and her Jewish family’s lives were completely turned upside down as a result. The war resulted in the deaths of countless people, mostly innocent people. Before the invasion on D-day and the end of the war not too long after, the rest of the world didn’t know the real disaster going on over seas. Anne Frank’s once secret diary has introduced the immense suffering and horror that occurred during the Holocaust.

In the second entry of Anne Frank's diary, Margot got a call-up from the SS, which forced the Franks to go into hiding in fear of their future. After Otto Frank came home, "Margot and I started packing our most important belongings into a schoolbag" (Frank para. 15). Margot and Anne went packing after their Father told them they were going into hiding. This was the same day that Margot got called-up.
Robert Ross becomes the anti-hero because of his need of to save others but inability to do so; Robert, himself, is not aware of the fact that all he wants to do is save others because he could not save the one person he cared about, Rowena: “It
This also reinforces O’Briens idea of the true nature of courage by again showing that he didn’t react as he was expected to, and how he was not as courageous as he thought he should
During the devastating time of World War II, a Jewish teenage girl wrote a diary about the gruesome events she witnessed, this diary was named, Diary of a Young Girl, Anne Frank. Anne Frank lived in Holland and went into hiding when her sister, Margot, got a letter to go to a reception camp. The Franks faced terrifying moments during hiding. They witnessed war outside their window and stayed in the same house without even going outside for about two years. To add on, the Franks had to keep in mind how every day they could be arrested or even die. Sadly Anne and her family are arrested and are sent to Auschwitz, a concentration camp where she would later die. While in hiding, the Franks and the Van Daans, who were also in hiding with them,
