Joint Base Cape Cod (JBCC) is located on Cape Cod. The JBCC is recognized as a Superfund site in 1989 by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The base contaminated the groundwater in the surrounding towns. “Contaminated areas were the result of chemical/fuel spills, fire training activities, landfills, and drainage structures (cumulis.epa)”. The site is currently being cleaned up by the National Guard Bureau and the Department of the Air Force. The Air Force is cleaning one part of the base under Superfund. The Army is cleaning the other part under the Safe Drinking Water Act. The EPA is overseeing that everything is being cleaned to their set standards. Apparently, while Juan Ponce was talking to the Indians, he realized that our current land is not Bimini, but a new world of its own. He decided to name the place “Pascua Florida” as a remembrance of Pascua Florida Day had just passed. I wanted to name it “Bercerilloland” but no one agreed with me. You would not like it here, my crew mates are dim-witted and insufferable.
Have you ever visited the dazzling beaches of Fort Myers and Sanibel? If you have, maybe you've noticed the abundance of seashells washed up on its shores. Did you know that Fort Myer was originally established as Fort Whipple back in 1866? In fact, Fort Myer was the actual site of the first aircraft flights at a military installation. Also, several exhibition flights by Orville Wright took place there between 1908–1909. Another curious fact about Fort Myer is that it was a staging area for many engineering and chemical companies during World War I. In 1972, Fort Myer was designated a National Historic Landmark. Today, it offers well-preserved cavalry facilities and officers' quarters that visitors may explore on site. Once you're done with
The Boynton Harbor Marina is considered to be the eastern anchor of the downtown core of Boynton Beach and continues to add to the overall success of the CRA’s redevelopment efforts, as well as being identified as one of Palm Beach County’s Marina Villages under their Intracoastal Waterway Plan Initiative. The Open Space Project, one of three redevelopment phases at the marina, enabled more public access to the waterfront and assists with promoting Boynton Beach as a premiere tourist and marine destination. The revamped marina features additional green space and designated seating areas for visitors to enjoy the Intracoastal waterways. Due to these developments the Boynton Marina businesses have incurred drastic increases in
The naval side of the civil war in Florida all started with the Pensacola harbor. There was a navy yard and three forts guarding the harbor, including Fort Barrancas, Fort McRee, and Fort Pickins. On January 8, 1861, Florida Governor Madison S. Perry authorized Colonel Chase to seizing the forts at Pensacola. On the Fort Barrancas, 1st Lieutenant Adam J. Slemmer was an officer from Montgomery County, Pennsylvania during the Seminole Wars and the American Civil War. He heard rumors that the Florida Militia was planning on seizing the Navy Yard, the barracks and the forts in the Pensacola areas. With Slemmer not wanting to enter the union he moved gunpowder and other materials to Fort Pickens, which he thought, would be the safest port to fight from.
Economic theory is an essential part in economic research, and even more so when discussing the development of city projects. The idea that the implementation of policies in budgetary issues would improve people’s lives is attractive to budget administrators and city administrators alike (Varian, 1989). In fact, it is most useful for evaluating the answers to common problems faced by local organizations. The determining factor is based on the approach taken to evaluate the effectiveness of the project. The use of Cost Benefit Analysis in City Projects , such as the Sanford Riverwalk, provides strategic analysis and planning of the recreational incentives for city residents. The city is based around surrounding popular cities known for their parks and recreation. The City of Altamonte Springs, Daytona Beach, and the City of Orlando are known for their state parks and touristic areas. Because the development of such a project would contribute to a competitive market and enhance the face value of the city, it is part of the overall analysis of the research conducted on this particular project.
The Development Assessment Commission has approved plans by Oceanic Victor to set up a tuna-pen tourist attraction near Granite Island, in the sheltered Victor Harbor bay. A public information meeting was held on the 23rd and comments and feedback was closed on the 31st so the public had only a few days to voice any opinions or concerns which seems inadequate for what could be a public safety matter like this. SA surfers should consider some action over this one as it will affect most of the surfers in that region
Transportation in Sentinel City can be accomplished by bus, car and bicycle. No bike lanes were noted, no major highways, just city blocks and regular streets. There are offices such as the health clinic and city hall. Children could be seen playing in the playground on swings, appears as there is no grass surface, only concrete. Joe’s grocery store and convenience store are present throughout Sentinel City. There is a Bodega that sells foods in Industrial Heights.

There are miles of bicycle paths found within the Cape Cod National Seashore. Besides the Rail Trail that passes through the Park, other bicycle paths are found in Provincetown, Truro, and Eastham. While many local residents disputed the wisdom of forming the National Park in the 1960's, few will disagree now about the blessing that it has been, especially in preventing over-development and in teaching an appreciation for Cape Cod's natural resources.
On a cold and frosty morning in Cape Canaveral, Florida, thousands of people gathered to watch something one of a kind - something which they would never forget. Sitting on a launch pad at Cape Canaveral, being lit up by huge xenon lights was an incredible flying machine. Its name was Discovery and today, it was destined to go to space aboard 2 million pounds of solid rocket fuel and 500,000 gallons of liquid gas.
First off, the lifestyle community includes resort areas for people who are seeking recreational activities such as golf club, country club, etc. It provides its inhabitant with common amenities and services. Developers of such projects seek to commodify community (Hillier and McManus, 1994). The aim of these community is to create a sense of identity and belonging among the neighbors, thus living a common lifestyle. The second type of gated communities, the prestige communities are communities usually located in a wealthy and attractive locations, and are for rich and famous people who want to be socially exclusive and who are looking to portray a specific image of themselves. According to Blakely and Snyder (1997) there is three main type of prestige communities and they varies based on the degree of prosperity of its residents. Finally, the third and last type of gated communities, the Security zone, are a type of settlements that heavily emphasize on security of its inhabitants by closing streets and restricting public access in order to limit crime and traffic issues. The cruise industry provides an increase of tourism industry within the ports and its country. For example, restaurants, hotels, taxis, theme parks, museums, shops, taxi drivers and travel guides are all positively affected as it will increase local employment within the city and its ports. Anyhow, cruise industry will brings large sums of revenues to the local city and governments. That is why, I think this enhances the relationship with cruise companies and Politicians will be efficient both sides.
Planning and development are both extremely important factors within the tourism industry and can have both positive and negative effects on the environment, local communities and tourist destinations. “Destination planning aims to limit the negative impacts of cultural tourism upon the history and lifestyles of the local community. An understanding of sustainable tourist development allows for the development of culture without loss of its authentic identity” (Maidment. T. 2012). This statement discusses the importance of planning to avoid having any negative impacts on environments and communities. Because the effects of tourism are so severe to destinations, many natural and cultural resources have been destroyed, therefore tourism planning is vital to preserve and maintain these places for future generations.
