I see many Facebook statuses about Planned Parenthood these days. At times, I find them amusing, but the rants can be ridiculous and annoying. Some go to such lengths as comparing PP and abortion to Holocaust. Please, these kinds of arguments are offensive to me having some Jewish ancestry, the holocaust itself, and to critical thinking. I have always been an admirer of the greatest principle and a privilege many western countries and US has; separation of church and state. I wonder why some really don't seem to appreciate this fact, and try to impose their religious and moral beliefs on others, and or want them to influence public and social policies. There was a time that religion had too much influence over everything in Europe. It was called
The Next Battle in the War Over Planned Parenthood is an article featured in The New York Times by writer Sheryl Gay Stolberg. The article, written in response to the recent proposal put forth by the Trump administration essentially threatening to cut federal funding to Planned Parenthood if the group doesn’t start preforming abortions, addresses both sides of the highly controversial and political topic of abortion by quoting the opinions of individuals from opposite ends of the abortion debate such as pro-choice Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and pro-life Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life, an abortion opposing organization on college campuses. Stolberg also debunks the common misconception
In response to the disapproval of Planned Parenthood in government, protesters flooded the streets advocating for reproductive and sexual health care for everyone. Since Planned Parenthood is a separate entity from regular healthcare and it covers specific needs,
The issues of life, when it starts, and what rights mother and baby have are extremely philosophical and religious debates. These issues aren’t going to disappear anytime soon but that shouldn’t dictate and jeopardize the health care of others. Legislation shouldn’t be decided on the morals of a few. Advocates for defunding Planned Parenthood maintain that this organization goes against their faith or morals. However, the world is a big place and not surprisingly there is more than one religion and more than one moral standing. A ruling to pass a bill should not simply adhere to just one opinion relating to the issue at hand, even if it the majority. The patients receiving the services from Planned Parenthood are in need of such health care, and just because a group disagrees with the morality does not mean that the health of the underprivileged should be at the expense. Pro-life and Pro-choice may not be for everyone, but Planned Parenthood
Planned Parenthood was founded in 1916 by Margaret Sanger, her sister and her friend. It all started when they opened America’s first birth control clinic in Brooklyn, New York. Women didn’t have very many rights back then so it was hard to obtain information on birth control or contraception. the Comstock Laws were responsible for making contraception illegal. They decided to make a change and start Planned Parenthood. Sanger decided to open the clinic because she had seen the pain of her mother having 18 pregnancies, bore 11 children and died at the age of 40. She wanted to help the other women who were having unwanted pregnancies to have a form of prevention. Sanger keeps on fighting though and founds The Birth
Republican Senator Ted Cruz believes that leaders are lying about wanting to defund Planned Parenthood, or PPFA. Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization centered on helping those with sex education and healthcare. There are many misconceptions about Planned Parenthood that people like Ted Cruz are not willing to look into. Shutting down the healthcare organization could greatly affect adults and youths all over America. If Cruz were successful in shutting down Planned Parenthood, millions of people would be without any form of healthcare, millions of women would no longer have the option of free health exams, and the United States’ youths could be at risk because many of them would live in ignorance about their health.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America is a nonprofit organization that provides reproductive health services both for females and males. Services include screening for and treating sexually transmitted diseases, infections, and providing contraception. Another service they provide is abortions; although controversial in 2014 the organization reported that only 3% of their services were for abortions. The organization manages more than 820 health centers in the United States, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Peru, Nigeria, South Sudan, Senegal, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Sudan, Nicaragua, and Kenya. Planned Parenthood helps over five million patients a year: most of the patients are impoverished and more than a quarter of the patients are under the age of nineteen years old. According to a latest yearly report, the organization supplied around 860,000 screenings a year for breast and cervical cancer. They also issued nearly 4.5 million examinations and medical care for sexually transmitted diseases. Approximately one-third of its resources are supplied contraceptives. In particular, in its latest yearly report, Planned Parenthood stated that it supply’s knowledge of birth control and services to three million people annually. If Planned Parenthood is defunded there will be less convenience of contraceptives will mean additional undesired pregnancies and more abortions. Out of the three hundred and thirty of the countries, Planned Parenthood helps at least half of the patients who
Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc. (PPFA), better known as Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization that provides reproductive healthcare and education in the United States and globally. The non-profit’s history is rooted in Brooklyn, New York, where Margaret Sanger and her sister Ethel Byrne opened the first birth control clinic in the U.S in 1916, later founding the American Birth Control League in 1921, which changed its name to Planned Parenthood in 1942 (Planned Parenthood, 2016). Moreover, Planned Parenthood was founded on the revolutionary idea that women should have the information and care they need to live strong, healthy lives and fulfill their dreams — no ceilings, no limits (Planned Parenthood, 2017).
Planned Parenthood is a controversial topic sweeping the nation of America with political and moral issues. Every day one could come across a new article on it, stubble upon a news article in their local paper or even on their local news station. Planned Parenthood directly provides reproductive health services, is involved in teach young students about sexual education, contributes to research in reproductive technology, and interacts with legal and political efforts aimed at protecting and developing reproductive rights.
One in eight women in the United States develop breast cancer in their life. One in five sexually active teens has herpes. Three in ten sexually active teen girls become pregnant before age twenty. All of these statistics are shocking, but what is more disturbing is that they can typically be spotted or prevented if given access to the proper outlet, tools, and information. The epidemic that should frighten people is the plague of misinformation or ignorance to knowledge that could prevent these occurrences, or the lack of drive to find information regarding these unfortunate instances. Planned Parenthood offers a range of services that include screening for breast cancer to women, sexually transmitted disease testing to
If Republicans generalized the shooter at Planned Parenthood like they do with one who is a POC, they'd be the ones who should "wear ID badges."
The topic of sexual education and women’s reproductive health is one that draws very polarized opinions from individuals drawn into the discussion. The United States holds very strong beliefs about sex education and women’s reproductive health. Although statistics on sexually transmitted diseases (TDSHS, 2014) show that these beliefs are medically harmful, they are so completely ingrained in our culture that we choose to ignore the research that says otherwise. Our textbook does not cover sex education, but it does cover the topic of Reproductive Justice, which it defines as “…being able to have safe and affordable birthing and parenting options; reliable, safe and affordable birth control technologies; freedom from forced sterilization; and
Millions of women across America will struggle to receive the medical attention they need if the federal government stops funding to Planned Parenthood. Every year 363 million dollars goes into the funding “pot” collectively at Planned Parenthood’s nationwide (Clark 5). This money is used predominantly by women; for six in ten women, Planned Parenthood acts as their main source of health care (Clark 4). Many individuals with low incomes depend on these clinics to maintain or help better their health. Recently, the federal government is trying to pass the Pence Amendment, which would eliminate funding to these institutions. The federal government needs to realize how important Planned Parenthood
Planned Parenthood was under attack summer of 2015. They were accused of selling baby parts for profit. This practice caused Planned Parenthood to be criticized and brought under more scrutiny then they face on a daily basis for being an abortion center. It is common practice to see picketers who are pro-lifers standing outside Planned Parenthood businesses holding signs proclaiming the right to life. But when two videos became public that demonstrated Planned Parenthood officials talking about the sales of aborted fetus body parts, the heat on Planned Parenthood went from warm to a blazing inferno and funding was immediately pulled from Planned Parenthood. The videos were a major rallying point for many Americans who are opposed to abortion. In fact the videos aided pro-lifers as they went after the government demanding that funding be stopped to Planned Parenthood clinics.
Did you know 80% of women abort their kid if they have down syndrome? Abortion is where they end the baby’s life well it is still in the womb. Abortion has been an issue since the 1960’s and continues to grow today. About 1/4 of pregnancies end in abortion and 1/3 of americans before the age of 45 have gotten an abortion. ( (Guttmacher.) Abortion should be illegal considering the reasons for it, ethics and medical effects.
