Introduction
The “Pink Tax” is when women pay more than men for the same product. Typically the only difference between the women’s versions and the men’s is the scent or the glittery pink or purple packaging, hence the name the “Pink Tax”. The “tax” comes in all shapes and sizes, from deodorant and personal care items, to clothing and services, and even children’s toys and products. This is a very common occurrence and it has been shown to cost women more than $1000 more a year. This could be a result of companies taking advantage and capitalizing on women and their willingness to pay more for pink. However it could also be a deeper rooted problem with societal gender roles. Because gendered pricing has been costing women extra money for

Many sources say the manufacturers change the prices while others claim it’s the vendors at fault. The main cause however, is companies taking advantage of a group of people just to get another dollar out of them. The products really don’t cost much more to manufacture despite what they say. The companies have taken advantage of women and almost created a sort of monopoly of higher prices for women’s products. This may be due to women’s perceived vulnerability or even a perceived inability to make decisions on what products to buy. Imported goods also get taxed unequally. One Trade Lawyer found that “shirts with buttons on the right side (customary for men) that were taxed at a couple of percentage points less on imports than shirts with buttons on the left side (for women).” This lawyer brought two cases against the unequal taxation on imported goods to court and both were dismissed. This shows that the problem may be deeper than we thought they were with a perfect blend of many different …show more content…
The U.S. government and citizens could raise awareness for this cause and the high cost of being a woman. No law or bill would have to be passed, women would vote with their wallets and chose to buy the men’s products. This would lower the demand for women’s product and further lower the price for them. However this may not be 100% effective because prices may then fluctuate for a while. Another possible solution is a federal law or bill being passed prohibiting gendered pricing for identical products. This would make sure the retailers are being equal with their products and save women nationwide thousands of dollars. However this may cause problems with nations we trade with, but it may encourage them to pass a similar law. It also may infuriate many companies and possibly lead to some financial problems for a select few. If the law that is passed is an efficient and smart plan then there could be hope to achieving a more equal and just
Parent Corporation owns 85% of the common stock and 100% of the preferred stock of Subsidiary Corporation. The common stock and preferred stock have adjusted bases of $500,000 and $200,000, respectively, to Parent. Subsidiary adopts a plan of liquidation on July 3 of the current year, when its assets have a $1 million FMV. Liabilities on that date amount to $850,000. On November 9, Subsidiary pays off its creditors and distributes $150,000 to Parent with respect to its preferred stock. No cash remain to be aid to Parent with respect to the remaining $50,000 of its liquidation preference for the preferred stock, or with respect to any common stock. In each of Subsidiary’s tax years, less than %10 of its gross
Women are getting paid 79 cents to the dollar in relation to their male counterparts. They do the exact same work as the women do, yet they get paid a quarter more. The Equal Pay Act has been a law since 1963; for over 50 years this law has been in effect, yet women are still paid less than men in today’s society. The law states “No employer…shall discriminate…between employees on the basis of sex by paying wages to employees…at a rate less than the rate at which he pays wages to employees of the opposite sex…” (The Equal Pay Act of 1963)
Every year, women lose a total of 1,351 dollars in extra costs due to something called the Pink Tax: goods and services that cost women more money than men (pink.tax). Services like dry cleaning and haircuts are more expensive for women, even though they serve the same purpose for both genders. Advertisers, the health care community and insurance providers actively participate in this form of discrimination and inequality, and the government, who has regulatory authority over these practices, turns a blind eye. The economy of women is disrupted by the Pink Tax, for no other reason except being female. Because of this, government action needs to be taken to ensure equality in pricing, and repeal the discriminatory tax laws that hurt the female
The “Pink Tax,” the bane of women everywhere, and especially in corporate America. Women’s products and health lies in the hands of corporations who charge more for products geared towards women than their male counterparts. This is usually by a few cents on the dollar, but keep in mind that women are paid less than men. So, this can add up over time, and cause many frustrations.
Women get paid less than men, aren’t allowed to work certain jobs that men do, and get cheated on how much they pay for certain goods and services when compared to men’s products. On average, each year, women pay a whopping $1,300 more than men in products such as razors, hair products, back support bands, and even scooters for toddlers. The extra money women pay for products is known as the pink tax, and it has recently been a hot topic in the news all over the world.
Furthermore, the employment society has an unjust take on this. “Oh, female employees in a workforce? That’s a hassle to manage… We know, let’s pay them lower wages! Better yet, in some cases, let us just not hire them at all, even though they are perfectly qualified because a male worker can do it just as well.” Just as well… equally qualified... Hmm, something is not right here. Should women have to settle for lower payment rates just because of their
I have a simple solution to solve this issue that women like to claim under the idea of “Feminism” - Kill all women. I mean, if there are no women, then there is no left to complain. Yeah, I know we still have that issue though of those men that choose to support these ridiculous unfair ideas - Kill them too. The only ones that should live are the men that don’t complain about the rights that women don’t have. Have you not learned that no one cares about their opinions? At that since there are no women to complain about the wage gap now, then we just get all their money too. We already get that extra 70 cents that brings about this complaint, but now we can get even more money by just taking what they would’ve had if they just stopped complaining.
Over the past couple of years, I have witnessed many females be discriminated or underestimated either in their work environment or any environment in general. Seeing my mother getting paid less because she’s a woman isn’t fair, she works hard, comes home tired, and still has time to do things around the house. She isn’t getting paid what she desires and that’s not something I want for myself. Females getting paid less is a real problem, and I, as a female, want to do something about it.
People will say, “Why don’t you just buy the men’s products?” With this thinking, it beats around the bush and avoids the problems at hand. If one were to execute a solution of the Pink tax, genderless products like unisex razors and deodorants would be created. Instead of questioning women about their purchases of men’s products, question why there is gendered products at all. These products are necessities and the only justifiable difference between a man’s product and a woman’s product is just based on the fact of pink or feminine packaging and the targeted
Generally, women need to speak out about this glass ceiling vulnerability men have over them in order to enable men to deal with this problem. Moreover, there is a need to campaign for change on personal level, schools, institutional level, and media level. In addition, people need to come together to break the monopoly views of the rich and the media system and the white men dominion over the subjective. Besides that, women should refuse to accept the cycle of masculinity tough guise control stereotypes labels on them because gender role is being propagated through advertisements
Today, America has progressed tremendously when it comes to mathematics, science, technology and engineering (STEM). While former President Barack Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Act for equal rights and equal pay, woman still lag behind. Also, as Hilary Clinton broke the shattered the glass ceiling by becoming the Presidential nomination for the Democratic Party, she still was not able to break the glass ceiling. I have watched multiple women work tiresome hours to support their families, yet be treated with less respect because they are a woman. I want to be able to live in a world where I get the same compensation as a man for doing the same job. My gender is not a reflection of my work ethic and should not be used against me or other
As stated by many feminists, celebrities and politicians the gender wage is a problem that is justified by the statement that women make 77 cents to every dollar men make. If, for the same work why don’t businesses hire only women? Wages are one of the biggest expenses for small and large businesses, so if they only hired women then they would be saving 23 cents to every dollar they would have to pay. The statistic that there is 77 cents to every dollar isn’t the whole story around the supposed gender wage gap. While statistics are true and very valuable, they are also notorious for being a means that people use to make false and misleading arguments to persuade a large group of people. The gender wage gap is not
Companies, for starters, could begin to fix the problem by publishing all employee’s salaries (Miller, Claire). One reason the gap exists is from individuals not knowing what others in the same field earn (Bloch). This allows anyone to see the differences in what men and women earn for the same jobs. This may in turn make women want to negotiate their salaries, knowing they earn less than men (Miller, Kevin). On average, 51.5% of men negotiate their salaries while only 12.5% of women negotiate theirs (Miller, Claire). If women learn to negotiate more and better, the gap will start shrinking. Employers can also ignore an employee’s past salaries so they cannot base their new salary on an old one (Miller, Claire). This would then make an employer pay an individual for the job they are currently doing rather than basing their pay on an old job that maybe did not interest them or fit their personality. Changes can also be made at the federal level. The Paycheck Act can be put into place to improve the Equal Pay Act (Miller, Kevin). The Equal Pay Act states that employers must pay men and women equally for doing the same work (The Equal Pay Act). By the law being changed, both men and women could finally be paid the same salary. These are all simple solutions that can make a huge impact. Women could live in a world where they are not discriminated against because of their gender and feel equally as important and valuable as men.
However, raising women’s wages so they are comparable to men’s is certainly a possible solution. This is important because approximately 1/3 of all working mothers are the sole or primary source of income for their families. 5 While raising working women’s wages may increase costs to businesses, it is the only solution if a company resolves to follow the regulations set forth to ensure equal pay for equal work, which by law, they are required to do. Most likely businesses will not be inclined to absorb these costs but rather pass them on to the consumer. However, in order to remain competitive they may find it wise to keep their customers happy or else they may lose them. To achieve this, they most likely will have to “eat the cost” of providing equal pay for women.
The Purpose: This guideline is designed to help at risk or seeking students suffering from anxiety and depression in the school systems. School teachers should have the ability to be able to refer students to counselors for mental health evaluation and assessment; and prepare student and family for outside mental health treatment. The aim of this protocol is to benefit students who need mental health assistance by providing them with a safe, cooperative, and positive environment to better their education and overall well- being.
