The “Pink Tax,” the bane of women everywhere, and especially in corporate America. Women’s products and health lies in the hands of corporations who charge more for products geared towards women than their male counterparts. This is usually by a few cents on the dollar, but keep in mind that women are paid less than men. So, this can add up over time, and cause many frustrations. How can we see this sort of discrimination first hand? Well, head to your local superstore, and check the toiletries section. The same manufacturer of razors, with the same amount of blades, will charge more for the pink women’s razors than a man’s blue razor. Shampoo and deodorants also show these same patterns, although they do have slightly different ingredients since men typically don’t wish to smell like roses or some sort of candy. Clothing is also a great example, because men’s fabrics are thicker, more durable, and usually cheaper. Women’s T-shirts and underwear are usually thinner and will wear out from wear or wash. Women’s jackets are thin, and usually require more layers to keep warm, which leads to more spending. Condoms are freely given out at rallies, concerts, schools, and online, yet you still need to make sure you keep some quarters on you if you happen to start menstruating in public.
However, have you ever taken a look

Bills are already in the works to include sanitary napkins as medical devices in order to be exempt from tax. New York has had an uproar earlier this year over the unfair taxes. People who believe that the Pink Tax is a myth propose women buy men’s products. This is very feasible, but not all women want to smell like a man and be forced to buy their projected items. I believe that including sexually biased laws and taboos should be included in sexual education, so everyone will understand the common problems of women. Without better education on women’s biology and prejudices, we can’t hope to have laws work for
On January 13th, 2017, Chancellor Ralph Hexter of UC Davis emailed students in response to Martin Shkreli and Milo Yiannopoulos not being allowed speak at a campus event due to heated protests. The controversial Yiannopoulos is a open critic of many social justice movements, like feminism and Black Lives Matter. He’s specifically said during his events at his tour that muslims are rapists, publically yelled at a muslim for wearing a hijab, and promotes Blue Lives Matter. ('I Just Want to Burn It down') Additionally, Shkreli is a businessman who is now a convicted felon. So in response, many students were outraged and deeply upset by this organized event. In the email the Chancellor quoted the ACLU, explaining that we “can organize effectively to counter bad attitudes, possibly change them, and forge solidarity against the forces of intolerance.” However this will cause violence and make many feel patronized by the words spurred out by public speakers, like Yiannopoulos and Shrekli. Even though inviting people of different views seems like unifying people from all backgrounds, when people are content with their hatred and speak them out openly, it causes more complication. The opposite side wants to cover their ears and find the nearest exit. To be realistic, any young student won’t be welcoming with open arms to close minded speakers, especially if it seems as the main thing they desire is to get a rise out of you. The most efficient way to unify people is being respectful
The unfair treatment has led to women not being able to vote for hundreds of years. If you were not white, you were seen as inferior because of your belief in Darwinism. This has affected black people for many centuries. Women have always been treated unfairly and are not seen as inferior to
“Treating others with fairness and dignity is the rain that helps them grow fruitful.”(Author unknown.) Women were not being treated equal for nearly 100 years. Men thought they were superior to women. Maybe men thought this because their ego was as big their body build. No matter the reason, everyone is created the same there for everyone should be treated the same.
In the united states in american society.Men and women are treated unequal at times i think still thre is a little bit of unfairness. in the way they are being treated.such as them having a jail sentence. The men getting less time and the women getting more time depending on if the judge likes her or not.The system of unequality is in effect.because there are still unfairness in the way every man and woman are being treated.there are some equalitys in the world.men and woman are supposed to be treated equal. That is what people are fighting over people are still fighting for their
Women get paid less than men, aren’t allowed to work certain jobs that men do, and get cheated on how much they pay for certain goods and services when compared to men’s products. On average, each year, women pay a whopping $1,300 more than men in products such as razors, hair products, back support bands, and even scooters for toddlers. The extra money women pay for products is known as the pink tax, and it has recently been a hot topic in the news all over the world.
Have you ever been discriminated from the other? Think back the history, there were different groups of people being judged based on their differences. The American society in early 20th century had many prejudices, such as racism, sexism, and disability. These discriminations were not manifested in the same way. In the old day, many inequities were addressed to different groups of people and they were not treated equally. Even though slavery was abolished in the USA in 1865, many black Americans still faced poverty and injustice throughout the 20th century. It showed that the racism was still a pervasive problem. The sexism is another obvious problem which women were long considered naturally weaker than men, squeamish, and unable to perform
First of all, gender inequality is not only a problem that affects women. Although women are under a great disadvantage, gender inequality has an impact on men too. With stereotypes that define all men as strong and aggressive and women as soft-hearted, it is
When you hear the unemployment rate is only 4.9% it sounds really good to the ears. Then you find out that is 15,626,100 people without a job it doesn’t seem so nice. I am tired of hearing people saying the are going to create jobs and then the jobs never appear, and I’m sure you are to. When I hear someone say they are going to do something I expect it gets done, there are no if and's or buts about it. Yes over the past few years the unemployment rate has been dropping but it is still there and that simply isn’t acceptable.
When a woman buys a cup of coffee at the coffee shop did it ever occur that she is spending more of her money than the man next to her? It's not because the coffee shop is sexist, or she bought something more expensive. It is because of a thing called wage inequality, and this thing happens most between men and women, even when society tries to stop it. Wage inequality negatively affects women in America. This changes how people perceive the ideas of women's living. For example the way confidence affects the way women get jobs, or the whether or not she lives with children, or if she is married. Even if this illegal there is still this kind of segregation between genders in America.
REPUBLICANS AIM to unveil Wednesday a long-awaited tax plan, premised on the fanciful idea that slashing taxes by $1.5 trillion over 10 years will somehow leave the federal budget better off. And it is not just the GOP’s most blinkered ideologues who have bought into this wishful thinking.
The soda industry has been influential since its breakthrough such as companies like Coca-Cola “giving money to and maintaining a cozy relationship with the Global Energy Balance Network, a nonprofit that promoted exercise over diet to combat obesity, the financial relationship between soda companies and public health groups have been scrutinized” (Blackmore). The city of San Francisco is bringing back the soda tax proposition which will add 2 cents on soda per ounce. Last time around it wasn’t as successful only getting half of the votes when they needed, at least, seventy-five percent. This time around they will only need the half of votes they got the last time. San Franciscan's should pass the soda tax because it would discourage people
Have you thought ever of a dystopic world or ever read a book that sounds like it. Will in the past couple days we have read a book named ¨Gathering Blue¨ This book would make the hairs on the back of your head stand.
Many people believe that there is gender discrimination in almost all aspects. This is just as true when it
When this statistic of 79 cents to a dollar is quoted, the obvious implication is discrimination based on sex and appeals to the emotional side of people inciting strong emotions such as anger and disgust and a call to fight this economic justice. Although the statistic is accurate, a reader should understand that there are many variables associated with it and the data should be looked at a whole before jumping to a conclusion. To shed some light on why there is a perceived gender gap we will look at some of the
Women have always been seen as a lower social class than males and are therefore identified as having limited privileges and rights compared to men.
