However, the physician’s assistant’s (PA) job in the emergency room is to assist in taking a load off of the doctor so that the doctors can focus on the extremely critical patients. There are a number of fields that one can work in as a PA. Because of the variety of job choices, studies have shown that a physician’s assistant is the second most wanted job in the United States of America. Other things to keep in mind when applying for these physician assistant programs are things like the GRE and more importantly, the citizenship requirement that may intervene with my plans. Though I have a permit to legally reside and work in the United States, I am not considered a citizen or a permanent resident. This could be a big problem when applying because a requirement listed is that the applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Applicants should be citizens or permanent residents because insurance is required to participate in the clinical rotations. I believe this will be the most difficult part of my journey to becoming a PA but like all the other challenges I have faced due to my legal status, I will overcome it. I will use this personal issue in my favor by explaining that having to live with it has only made me more resilient and I would relate it back to their mission statements which all state that one of their priorities is to serve the underserved communities. Because of my status, I relate to these underserved communities because I
A Physician Assistant (PA) is defined as a mid-level medical practitioner who works under the supervision of a licensed doctor (an MD) or osteopathic physician (MedicineNet). Guest speaker Veronica Coleman spoke to us about the profession of a physician assistant. It is a nationally certified profession that requires you to take a board exam to be able to practice medicine. They are medical professionals who work as part of a team with a medical doctor. In order to become a physician assistant, you would need to obtain a master’s degree from an accredited institution.
Description: Physician's assistants work under the supervision of a physician to examine, diagnose, and treat illnesses. They are able to record medical histories, perform physical examinations, treat minor injuries, prescribe medication, and administer treatments. In the healthcare field today there are many careers to pursue. The career I am most interested in is becoming a physician’s assistant. A physician’s assistant is a state licensed medical professional who is able to practice medicine in all 50 states under the supervision of a doctor or surgeon. To become a physician’s assistant you must have completed an educational program that is approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician’s Assistant. Although science has been my favorite subject in school for as long as I can remember, my passion for medicine started in fourth grade, after I spent three weeks in the hospital. The doctors and nurses were so good at explaining what was going on inside my body, and I learned so much about medicine and myself. It really improved my healing process knowing what was happening and how I could make myself feel better. From that moment on, I knew that I wanted a career helping others feel the same way. So, I met with my father’s friend, who was an anesthesiologist, to discuss all the options that are available in the medical field. After he listened to some of my interests and dreams for my future, he said that he thought
There are more than 100,000 certified Physician Assistants practicing medicine in the United States. PA’s have a very high starting salary and get to do a lot of hands on work. After just two years of schooling you can come out making an average of $94,000. Being stuck at a desk all day is dreadful, and physician assistants get to choose what they want their work environment to look like. Job opportunities for a PA are expected to go up by more than thirty percent between 2010 and 2020. When you are a PA you have a huge amount of flexibility to choose your specialization. I know that a PA is the best career choice for me because i love to work with people and enjoy social interaction, i love to have flexibility to be able to spend time with my family, and there are very good benefits and there will always be job openings.
