In the Altamonte High School student newspaper it is stated that given that the majority of the students are taking care of their own physical fitness outside of school, the school will cancel all the its physical education classes and drive the saved resources to invest in the development of intramural and varsity sports teams. However, since the argument presented by the announcement does not provide any evidence about how this physical activities outside school times are performed, it could be precipitated to eliminate all physical education classes for every students. As a result, the uncertainty about the quality and the type of physical activities that students are performing outside the school could cast some doubts on the effectiveness of the decision presented in the announcement.
Although it is said that the majority of the students are involved in physical fitness outside the school, the text does not provide any detail regarding which physical fitness activities these students are doing. For instance, some students could be doing a complete physical exercise - stimulating the whole body - such as swimming, while others might just be performing physical activities that partially stimulate the body, such as playing tennis or soccer. Therefore, since it is not warranted that this

Consequently, the announcement does not provide enough information regarding the exactly amount of student that are not doing any physical activity outside the school and that depend on the physical education classes to learn how to exercise their bodies. Therefore, since it is not clearly stated how many students are engaged in only the physical education classes, the decision of eliminating all physical class education could be damaging for the education and the physical health of some
First of all, students do not have much knowledge about the different fitness components; they do not understand the relation between the fitness components and health. If students acquire the background knowledge about fitness, it could improve the class engagement and motivation, and increase the independent drive to exercise. Second barrier to students’ achievement is the lack of motivation to be active, and even more difficult, to specific fitness activities, such as sit-ups and push-ups. In today’s society, students spend more time sitting in front a screen and less time moving. Parent and school today have more responsibility making sure the children get enough physical activity. According to the New York Times (2016), “early school physical education (PE) programs can make a significant difference, and the earlier these routines are learned the more likely they will be carried forth into a healthy adulthood”. Another barrier that prevents students’ success is the loss of instructional time due to discipline problems. The classes are too big, with many diverse students with individual problems, which are difficult to address when these issues are from very different backgrounds. Finally, there is not enough support from home affecting not only physical education, but
Physical education classes are not enjoyed by all, in fact, some students do their best to get out of the class each day, but without this class, students would sit in school for seven hours a day with the only exercise being walking from class to class. While changing clothes and possibly getting sweaty may not seem productive for students who have spent an hour doing their hair, or feel awkward changing in front of others, this class provides positive ways of fighting obesity, releasing energy, retaining more academically, and learning discipline. Thus, students should be required to take physical education courses in high school.
Prejudice and hate were big factors in the town of Maycomb, Alabama. In the book “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, she tells the story of how a girl named Scout and a boy named Jem learn and conquer their way through the racist thinking and the hate of Maycomb. The father of Jem and Scout is named Atticus Finch. Atticus is very loving and cares about his children and their future. He is a very respected attorney.
“Most students are involved with doing homework or integrating themselves in social media and only get physical activity through their gym class,” Wescott
A. What was studied? (theoretical framework) The time allocation for physical education school-based physical activity is often replaced with other classes in an effort to increase children’s academic performance. However, a growing body of literature suggests that physical activity either had no effect on academic performance or that it enhanced it..
The purpose of the study in the article Recess Physical Activity Packs in Elementary Schools is to see how incorporating fitness equipment impacts student activity during the 150-minute recess time. The researchers also wanted to determine the perception of teachers and principals. From a total of 4 elementary schools, 12 participants were selected. Of these 12 participants, there was one male teacher and three female teachers. From the students, there were two female students and two male students. Four principals were the last selected, they were all female. Purposeful sampling was the technique used to select all of the participants.
Contrary to a sport, since the Hudson School System is public, this class is free of charge unlike after school activities that require a minimum of two-hundred dollars to participate in. A graph called “Percentage of Youth Who Were Physically Active, By Number of Days Per Week and Sex: United States, 2012” confirms the amount of kids not being active at all during the week to be 15.1%. We can greatly lower that number if gym is offered as a
I believe that physical education and health give a unique opportunity to the students to contribute to the overall well-being and student’s development. As a teacher I believe that the most important things that I can teach my students is a love to be physically active because i believe that physical ability will affect every aspect of student’s life including their mental health, academic achievement, self-esteem, social competency and ability to function well in any environment. The purpose of physical education and health class is to provide the concepts of health and skill related fitness in order to create the student with continuous physically active that can promote the development of life long movers. Physical education and health
The rebellion was initiated to escape the human’s cruel ways but instead brought out the ultimate good and evil in the animals. Animal Farm begins with an idea of rebellion thought up by the most respected animal; Old Major, after revolution/rebellion of Manor Farm to Animal Farm. The animal’s true characters begin to show and Animal Farm begins to show the same qualities of Manor Farm. A dictatorial government comes into play and the animals develop the human like qualities that they were trying to rid themselves of. The resurrection of Manor Farm after the revolution was due to the tyrannical behavior of Napoleon and his ability to convince the other animals that everything he was doing was for the best.
Being in an American school begins a student’s search to find who they are considered in the system. From a nerd to a punk, many academic ties are also involved with this identity. The one group of students who get the most academic ties with his or her extra-curricular activity is the “jock”. As having the title as a jock, a child learns that many people look at someone who plays football or basketball doesn’t have the ability to learn as fast or as well as someone who just studies and doesn’t have extra-curricular activities. Studying this topic is not as stressed as it should be, even when many programs claim to get more physical activity in students. The articles that have been reviewed were testing whether the athlete gets good grades
The controversial topic in the realm of physical education is if physical education should remain in schools. Higher up’s are complaining about test scores and suggesting that cutting physical education programs would lead to better test scores. Technically, this would lead to more time spent sitting in a desk and listening to lectures in class, which is supposed to improve test scores. So, the solution to increase test scores is to take the small chance of physical activity that children receive during the school day and keep them almost completely sedentary for six-plus hours. When physical activity is restricted during school hours, children do not regain the lost physical activity after school, resulting in children who remain
Global warming is the gradual increase of temperature in the world’s atmosphere. It is often caused by high levels of carbon dioxide and other pollutants. It may also be increased by fossil fuels and agriculture causing many severe consequences, such as: species extinction, reduced forest and coral reefs, drought increases in Africa, severe flooding in Asia, threats to small islands because of ocean levels rising, and severe weather in hurricane zones. Our society today is destroying the climate. Every time we drive our vehicles just to get out of the house for fun or because we forget and have to make a double run, when we run our electric too long, wasting water, burning our trash, especially plastics, and just not taking proper care of
Physical activity in school used to be a big part of school, but as time marched on physical activity became less and less important to school boards even some schools went as far as removing physical education completely. Today it is required that schools have physical education, but as childhood obesity rates have shown, that is not enough. Childhood obesity has skyrocketed lately and it has shown to have an effect on children academically as well as their health. With children spending a huge portion of their childhood in school, school has a great opportunity to help children stay healthy as well as get an education. “A research project called PAAC with 24 elementary schools showed that adding sessions of physical activity to a school curriculum could have long term benefits both academic and health.(Source 1)” “One school took a survey of children playing active video games and traditional recess, it showed that the children who played the active video games showed an improvement in math scores.(Source 1)” “Among 5,316 students in grades K through fifth grade, the frequency and duration of P.E. class were positively associated with standardized test performance among girls but not boys.(Source 1)” “When
Sports programs have been an integral part of all schools. They support the academics of the school and therefore foster success in life. These programs are educational and help produce productive citizenship. They help students experience and build skills that may help them in their future, like interpersonal and time management skills. Education may kindle the light of knowledge, but sports help to maintain the proper physique. Sports are also an important means of entertainment and a use for energy after long hours of study. Sports increase a student’s performance not only in the classroom but also in their life.
But physical education isn't only exercising. It can be sports too. Even if your school doesn't have a PE program, they will most likely have sports. Some school sports are football, basketball, volleyball, wrestling, ECT... Sports keep you active and movind around so they give you exercise. So, whether you spiking a volleyball or shooting some hoops, you are staying active.
