Abortion is a very difficult topic to talk about because the decision of taking the life of a fetus has to be very carefully thought over before a decision is actually made. Abortion can be very hard to obtain and many families cannot afford this pill or don’t live near an abortion center because of the decrease in centers across the country. The United States Government should fund women's health care programs which supports reproductive health, safety against unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections, and if needed, abortions. More and more facilities such as Planned Parenthood, those who help women looking for abortions, are being shut down because of lack of funds. Melissa Reed, president & CEO of Planned Parenthood Keystone, said March 13 that the life terminating business “has made the difficult strategic decision to consolidate health services by closing two centers located in Easton and Bristol to reduce the costs of duplication associated with running two sites in close proximity to others.”(life site) The government should fund abortions because if a woman wants to do it then she should have the right. They can't control other people's bodies. The cost to get an abortion pill ranges from $0 to $800. Many families cannot afford this cost because of low income which has spiraled down to an all time low with 1 of 2 Americans living in poverty or scraping by with what they have(cbs news), many families living in poverty or with very low income have medicaid which does not pay for the abortion pill unless you are raped or are dying which is only two of the many reasons why a woman would need an abortion. The woman’s right to take an abortion should be respected and not taken away, the government should help women who are going through unwanted pregnancies acquire the abortion pill by paying for at least a small amount of what the women can’t afford because it takes time to acquire the amount of money you need in order to buy the pill. Many times when a woman needs an abortion they will not be able to get it during the first trimester due to lack of funds and transportation so they will have to get it during the second trimester which can cost up to $2000. Abortion is not covered for
I feel that woman should be able to decide if an abortion is right for them and no one else. I feel that this procedure should be legal because if it is not these women will still seek out abortions and will have them performed illegally in unsafe and unsanitary places, which will jeopardize the woman’s health. I also feel that abortions should be affordable since if a woman cannot afford to have an abortion in a reputable place she will seek out a place that she can afford to have this abortion, which can place her health at risk since these procedures are often performed by someone who is not properly trained or licensed to do this procedure.
Abortions only make up three percent of the procedures done at Planned Parenthood clinics (“2014 2015 Annual Report”). There are a variety of other life saving and essential health care procedures done at the clinics, such as STD and STI testing, pregnancy tests, contraception, exams, and other health issues relating to both men and women. Many people believe that the federal government should defund planned parenthood; however, this would make it almost impossible for many low-income individuals to receive the care that they need. The federal government should not defund Planned Parenthood (PP) because abortion is not a valid reason for opposing funding because it is allowed by law, low-income individuals and families need the affordable
illegal to spend any of that money on abortion services. Planned Parenthood provides reproductive health care, and vital sex information to teens, woman, and men nationwide. Planned
The largest provider of abortions is Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood is an organization help people get contraception, plan for families, reproductive problems, and give abortion. This organization use to be funded by taxpayer money. If abortion is a choice, then why did people who don’t agree with it still have to pay it? By defunding Planned Parenthood, the money that was going towards it, will now be put towards other nonprofit health facilities. These facilities will offer much of the same services that Planned Parenthood does, but excluding abortions. Women and men will be able to receive free contraceptives without insurance, and care for STIs. Abortions through Planned Parenthood cost nothing for the woman, which means the way abortions are paid for is by taxpayer money. The first-trimester abortion pills cost $475 without insurance, and no insurance company in Iowa covers abortions (“Abortion In Obamacare”). For surgical abortions, the cost depends on how far along the pregnancy is, but usually that cost is from three-hundred dollars to over one-thousand dollars (Fisher). With the cost being so expensive, and the taxpayer money paying for the abortions, they should become illegal, so the expense is not
Recently, the S.184 – No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2017 was read and referred to the Committee on Finance. With the newly elected President Donald Trump in office, adjustments have begun to take place on the front end of abortion and what these procedures and the insurance that covers them will look like going forward. The previously mentioned bill would permanently prohibit federal funding, including District of Columbia funds, for abortion or healthcare that includes abortion (Congress & Wicker, 2017). The bill will amend the Internal Revenue Code and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act by prohibiting health coverage from
Despite already being legal, most states have many restrictions that make it a complicated process to get a safe abortion. Government officials who are pro-life are trying to create more restrictions because of ethical and moral factors. Making abortion illegal won't stop women from getting abortions, it will only make them unsafe. We need to remove the restrictions and create more funding so clinics can stay open and available to women all around the United States. Planned Parenthood in the U.S. has had approximately 2.5 million clients in the last year and with more and more of these clinics closing down, it’s becoming more risky to get an abortion and it is also getting harder for women to get mammograms, birth control, and
Women who are denied abortion are more likely to become unemployed, be on public welfare, and fall below the poverty line. A study done by the University of California at San Francisco found the women turned away from abortion clinics were three times more likely to be below the poverty than women who had received an abortion. According to the ASPE, the poverty line in the United States for a family of two, a mother and child, was $15, 930 in 2015. CNN calculated that it cost between $12,500 and $14,000 to raise a child, which consumes 85 percent of the poverty stricken family of two’s income. With legal abortions, single mothers do not have to raise children that will send them into poverty, thus lowering the national level of poverty. Also, implementing laws banning abortion and contraceptive services costs the government millions of dollars. The Guttmacher Institute states that by allowing women women with the contraceptive services they want, for every $1 invested in family planning services, $7.09 in Medicaid costs is saved. The effects of cutting off reproductive choices was displayed in Texas in 2011. State legislators stripped the $73 million funding for family planning services. With low-income families denied reproductive services, an estimated 24,000 additional babies were to be born costing Texans as much as $273 million due to medical expenses under Medicaid. After Texas lawmakers saw the numbers, both
With abortion only concerning a woman's body it should be up to that woman if she chooses to get the abortion, not anyone else's. They have the right “to participate equally in the economic and social life of the Nation” but as Supreme Justice court Sandra Day O'Connor wrote that by even taking away the option to have the abortion is affecting “their ability to control their reproductive lives.” which is invitation of them even getting to decide their life course. Also stated in this
Birth control has been funded by the government for a very long time, but it is not sent out the right message. This is because with the birth control being paid for, they need not worry about getting pregnant and, they would not learn the consequences of their actions. While that is an understandable concern, girls’ access to free birth control methods is a part of the Affordable Healthcare Act. Due to the Affordable Healthcare act, the number of unintended pregnancies and abortions in the US was 32 percent lower in 2012. This statistic shows the impact the government could make if funding is provided to planned parenthood and other female health institutes.
Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. Many people believe it is 100% wrong and even consider it to be murder. The definition of abortion is; “The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth.” These pro-life believers do not support the idea of abortion and believe it should be illegal. Many of these supporters do not know that if abortion were illegal they would still be performed, unfortunately by an uneducated staff. Over 70 thousand maternal deaths occur every year because of unsafe abortions. These women die, so the idea of supporting pro-life is contradictory, this is why the nation should be pro-choice.
While I do not believe that abortion is right, I mostly agree with the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2015.” In this bill, it is clearly stated that taxpayers’ money will not be used to fund abortions anymore, but that is not stopping anyone from having the procedure performed. An individual may choose to pay for the abortion themselves, or they are able to purchase a separate insurance specifically for abortions,
For many years this issue of abortion has came out, giving a huge debate about it. Right now, in the United States abortion is legal but may be restricted by the states. The states have limited degree of power. Some of the laws passed by some states are the requirement of parental notification for minors, the term of pregnancy, the abortion risk information given to the patients for the procedure, etc. Abortion is becoming more pro choice. I wanted to research abortion because I didn’t really know anything about it when we had debates in class.
It’s a very obvious choice that we should have these abortion clinics available and should expand on them and make them more available around the country. You aren’t killing a person if you're getting yourself an abortion at the stages of embryos or fetus, the child doesn’t have an age until they are born (“Abortion ProCon.org”). In a study during 2013, “ A peer-reviewed study comparing the mental health of women who received abortions to women denied abortions found that women who were denied abortions "felt more regret and anger" and "less relief and happiness" than women who had abortions” (“Abortion ProCon.org”). No teenager wants to become a mom at young ages this will affect them in all life aspects they get affected trying to earn jobs, work at schools, social time, and more. “Abortion is not used as a form of contraception. Pregnancy can occur even with responsible contraceptive use. Only 8% of women who have abortions do not use any form of birth control, and that is due more to individual carelessness than to the availability of abortion” (Linda). Even if you do or don’t agree with abortions we need to help fund abortions / clinics in the
Abortion is one of the biggest problems in America, that is frequently argued, leaving behind the central question, “Should Abortion be Legal?” Abortion is “the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy.” (Google’s Definition) Abortion shouldn’t be legal, it is the murder of a human being. As of today, many different organizations in the US, are being funded for “Partial Abortion” which is “the killing of an unborn baby of at least 20 weeks by pulling it out of the birth canal with forceps, but leaving the head inside.” (http://www.dividedstates.com/abortion/) with money from Taxpayers. It has been known that, “Abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood continue to receive hundreds
Many would say that it’s the women’s choice if she should have an abortion but should the government pay for it? Women normally have some type of health insurance, Medicaid, but there some certain restrictions on them. Abortions can really be quite expensive, they range from $300-$800 depending on which state you live in according to the American Pregnancy website. One contributor named Steph Herold wrote an article “Yes taxpayers dollars should fund abortions” states that most women are not financially stable earning an income less than $20,000. Raising and taking care of a child is a huge responsibility and most women cannot find themselves doing that now. It's sad to say that teens have abortions in high school because they want to finish high school and made the wrong decisions. Older women claim that they have their life planned for them and they don’t include having a child any time soon. So, the real question here is, should the government pay for abortions? Abortion is a crucial component of comprehensive healthcare and should be covered by taxpayer dollars in every state and under federal health insurance programs (Herold). Herold is pretty much saying if we pay so much for health care how come abortion cost isn’t
