I have to wake up every morning and wait for the producers to contact me for any work that I have to do today. I have to live and breath in this dome that Christof has created for Truman. Sometimes I think why I signed that contract. It is terrible living in the dome and at work twenty four seven. How can Truman survive in such a small city where there is no entertainment? I can’t believe that Truman has not found out that he is living in a dome. I am his best friend and I get paid to lie to him about the dome. Sometimes in the middle of the night Christof calls me and tells me to go to Truman. I feel like quitting this job but I can’t. One night I received a call from Christof to go to Truman’s house. I quickly got a pack of beers and raced
If Iowa was the only state in the United States, what city would you live in
George Orwell’s novel 1984 reflects on the society of dystopian city Airstrip 1 where main character Winston Smith lives. Along with the many other citizens, Winston is controlled by the Inner Party by constantly being monitored via telescreens that keep sight of everybody and their actions. Besides using telescreens the government also easily arrests people in any case of “thoughtcrime” which consists of any thoughts that regard disobedience towards the government. Thoughtcrime and telescreens are two of the several factors that reflect the extreme surveillance in 1984. Orwell uses surveillance as the central theme of the novel to spread his idea that the usage of more extreme surveillance could eventually lead to a totalitarian society. On a less extreme scale, today’s society also has a significant amount of surveillance but many question whether or not more surveillance is necessary. With the many current text sources, it is certain that we need less surveillance in order to keep a stable society that does not take away the individualism of people.
Grover Cleveland is the President that I chose for my final project. Grover Cleveland was known for being an honest and trustworthy politician. However, he is probably best known for being the only United States President who was elected to two, non-consecutive terms in office (Krull, 45). Grover Cleveland is both the 22nd and 24th President. He was also the first President elected from the Democratic Party after the US Civil War. Additionally, Grover Cleveland was the first President to be married while in office (Krull).
Contrary to what many believe, Franklin D. Roosevelt was the best suited person to be the US president. He was elected the 32nd president of the US. The only American president in history to be elected four times, Roosevelt died in office in April 1945 (History.com) During the time of his term, the United States' economic state was poor; this time period was called the great depression this started 1929 and ended 1939 (whitehouse.gov).
Andrew Jackson is our 7th president. Jackson received an erratic education in the years before the Revolutionary War came to the Carolinas. After andrew jackson parents died he lived with his uncle where he studied law in salisbury, North california. As andrew jackson grew up he found himself to be very popular. In 1885 Jackson died and was put on the $20 bill. Some people believe that he doesn't deserve to be on the $20 bill but i believe that Andrew Jackson does deserve the honor of being on the $20 bill because he is known as the common man, he is the hero of the Battle of New Orleans and he gave indians there own territory
Everyone must cast their vote; Andrew Jackson deserves to be our next president. Make sure you cast your vote today for this very important election. Andrew Jackson has been involved in serving our country for many years. Jackson will be the greatest president of our time; where he will represent the common people. Being a former General and war hero, he will utilize his vast military experience to protect us. The people feel that Andrew Jackson is a different kind of politician, coming from humble ordinary beginnings. The voting public believes that if he becomes president anyone could have the opportunity to hold elected office. Jackson grew up in poverty and lived in a simple log cabin. John Quincy Adams on the other hand has had his time in office. The only reason Adams ever became president in the first place was due to a corrupt deal, during the election in 1824, that was made with Henry Clay. The 1824 election came down to a four-way split and was decided by the House of Representatives.
I highly encourage you to expand the narrow sidewalk running from 3rd Ave. /W. Century Blvd. to 5th Ave./ West Century Blvd. The sidewalk poses a serious threat to walking pedestrians that use the sidewalk to commute everyday to access the shops down at Crenshaw Blvd./ W. Century Blvd. and other little businesses up the street from S. Van Ness Ave./ W. Century
Having escaped rule from a tyrannical British government, the United States was founded on ideals of freedom and equality for all people. These fantasies of universal egalitarianism turned out to be merely that: fantasies. American history is full of stories of the oppressed struggling to get the rights they deserve and of the controversy over these issues that consequently ensues. “The Hypocrisy of American Slavery” by Frederick Douglass and “We Shall Overcome” by Lyndon B. Johnson are two speeches made confronting two of these issues. Douglass’s speech, delivered in 1852, condemns the institution of slavery and maintains that slaves are men and are therefore entitled to freedom. Johnson’s speech, on the other hand, was written in 1965 and discussed the civil rights movement. In it, he implored local governments to allow all American citizens, regardless of race, to vote. Despite the significant gap in time between these two addresses, both speakers use similar persuasive techniques, including ethos, pathos, and parallelism, to convince their audience that change needs to be implemented in America.
Thesis 1: It is arguable that America’s use of the atomic bomb on Japan was the best method possible to end World War II, especially when taking into account the lives of soldiers and civilians, in addition to the costs of continued warfare. (NAT, 7.3.III.D & 7.3.III.E)
Trump victory ‘incredible’ reads the front page of The Journal Gazette, and yes, effectively that’s the way it was. Sad was the final result of the presidential elections 2016. Ever since he announced his candidacy to become president of the Divided States of America, Donald Trump was heavily criticized and was never given credit or remote chances of winning. We were too busy criticizing his incoherencies and dumb ideas he had to become the next president of the Divided States of America. The truth of it is that we did not pay attention that, while he was working trying to enamor the voters of the people that had never participated in a presidential election, we were too busy criticizing, judging and laughing at the images that constantly showed the racial tensions and hatred prevalent in most of his political campaign rallies toward the
If you were the president of the United States of America what kind of leader would you want to be? You would want to lead your country with pride and power. Donald Trump is committed to his job and making changes not only in America, but also around the world. He has made great improvements in America; a few examples are making a difference with democracy, upholding global democracy/civilian rights and new economics/tax reform. These three issues, and many others, all have something in common; Trump is making these complications into strengths in the United States of America and he has only been in the presidency business for over three years.
Monuments, are how we as people can relive the past and be able to put ourselves at that time period. For Americans the 9/11 memorial puts us in the gravity and it gives us the impact of what that disaster did but, it also shows a sense of beauty with how the water falls into the spot where once stood a tall and powerful building. Monuments, have the aura that has a sense of empathy and shows more emotion than words ever could, the Holocaust museum gives a solid reminder of what genocide really is. Monuments and memorials should be based on the size location and what it is actually standing for it should be for someone who has been influential or it should be something of war or tragedy. We as Americans don’t pay attention to local cemeteries but when they see the Arlington cemetery or Vietnam memorial or even the WWII memorial people understand what death is really like and are more appreciative of those people who fought for the United States. Monuments and Memorials are not to remember those who fought for slavery, who have committed genocide, or any acts of treason and terrorism there should be no reason to make a statue that symbolizes something that a culture and a nation does not stand for anymore. Therefore, a Monument should consider the location, size, and why the monument is built along with the emotional aura that goes along with it.
“‘I can’t abandon the American people now when they need me more than ever,” Obama told reporters at a press conference. “We’ve come this far as a nation, now is not the time to do something different. This is the change you wanted and this is the change you’re getting.’”
From what I know, every year the winner of the NBA Championship, World Series, and of course the super bowl. Being that the New England Patriots have just won the super bowl, the team has been invited to come on down to the white house and meet with president Trump and his administration. This is music to the ears of the team quarterback who has gone golfing with, and is an avid supporter of President Trump. All was fine and good until some of the players decided they don’t want to go. One of these freedom fighters whose name is LeGarrette Blount told NFL journalist Rich Eisen that "I will NOT be going to the White House. I don't feel welcome in that house. I'll leave it at that”(Zaru). A few of Blount’s teammates have joined him on this and the current number not attending as of 6:30 Pm on friday is 6 of the players. There are 53 men on the roster and here are 6 men that feel as if
Why spend money that is really needed for other things? Why live uncomfortably? Why be trapped in this hole called a home that belongs to another person? Why not live free and peacefully? When a person rents he or she usually throws away money that could be used to purchase something that belongs to them. Money is not easy to come by so why pay out hundreds toward something that is not benefit to the person paying it out. There is no good explanation for making a decision like this. The best option in a situation like this is to buy a house. Buying a house is a better option than renting an apartment.
