Many kids ask the question “Why do I have to wear a helmet when I am riding my ATV (All Terrain Vehicle), UTV(utility terrain vehicle), or ORV( Off-Road Vehicle)?” Kids always tell their parents “Well I am already a pretty good rider and I do not need a helmet because I am that good.” No one is the best rider in the world and accidents can happen at anytime. The affect of the accident can be tragical and fatal. Do not be one who does not care, instead you should use caution. Many reasons why kids under the age of 18 need to wear a helmet include: the many statistics that are scary that involve kids under age not wearing a helmet, also to protect you and your body, there are certain laws that the state of Indiana requires for kids under age. All of these laws will help protect your brain and head. Kids do not understand the affects of them not wearing a helmet and why it proves a big deal. Many statistics are scary to parents who are debating if they should let their kids ride the UTV, ATV, or ORV in the first place. Parents worry about the machine wrecking or even flipping on their kid. Other parents show more concern about them possibly dieing. At a certain age, parents will have to let their children drive an ATV, UTV, or any ORV at some time if they like to ride. Many of the negative statistics involve a kid under age not wearing a helmet. A majority of injuries happen on the ATV or any ORV while riding. Yes, riding is in fact a dangerous sport, but with the right safety

Marvin Gaye, a sex music icon, was a symbol of the social and political issues during his time. Though his music he represented young culture, racial injustice, peaceful protest and his black identity. Produced with Motown Records, his album What’s Going On made it to the top ten on Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Albums,” (Dyson). Motown Records is known for its crossover music and artists that sang about things that would not create controversy in the political world, however their artists began to address social issues following the release of Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On. Though Gaye’s message was not direct until the release of this album, he represented a rage against the black stereotype and political issues associated with his black identity at a much larger scale being one of Motown Record’s most successful artist.
Safety is the condition of being protected from danger. Freedom is the power to do what ever you want, being charge of yourself. H.L. Mencken, and American and social critic, wrote "The average man does not want to be free. He simply wants to be safe." Mencken's quote applies to contemporary society in the way that individuals nowadays want both. However his perspective is only partially relevant regarding today's society.
(Now that we have talked about your risk of an accident and how it takes your attention off the road now let us talk about it being the leading cause of death in kids between the ages 15-19.)
“Don't be afraid to have a reality check. Taking risks is OK, but you must be realistic.” Joy Mangano. This proves that although risk-taking can be accepted, you must be experienced in the risk that you’re taking in order to be safe. My first source, Helicopter Rescues Increasing on Everest is transcribed from Robert Siegel’s radio show, and is a nonfiction radio interview whose purpose is to inform readers. Another source I analyzed is “Why Everest?” The article was authored by Guy Moreau and is a nonfiction article that is meant to inform readers. The third source I researched is Ranger Killed During Rescue of Climbers on Mount Rainier and is a nonfiction newspaper article meant to inform readers. The author of the article is The Seattle Times. People do not have the right to rescue services when they put themselves at risk because it puts more people at risk, it is cost-heavy, and because they choose to risk their lives.
According to the NCSL, National Conference of State Legislatures “Over the last five years, campus safety legislation has been a hot issue across the country”. Authors like Jazz Silva are standing up for student’s rights that some State Legislatures might not care about. Not only are weapons dangerous but it is unsafe to students who may struggle with mental health issues. College campuses are safer than the communities that surround them. The University of Louisiana system states “93% of the violence against students occurs off campus.” Allowing guns on campus would lead to an escalation in violence, can lead to an increased number of suicides by college students, and the possibility that a weapon can go off by accident.
Six teens ages 16 to 19 die every day from motor vehicle injuries. Per mile driven, teen drivers ages 16 to 19 are nearly three times more likely than drivers aged 20 and older to be in a fatal crash. Fortunately, teen motor vehicle crashes are preventable, and proven strategies can improve the safety of young drivers on the road. This reason is one of many reasons why teenagers cannot be able to drive around because they can kill someone or probably even kill themselves and they do not know what that can do to their parents. I think that we should raise the age of teen driver because mostly all of them just want to drive because they want to have a car and just impress their friends.
The first reason is so we can lower teen deaths. Just a few years ago 2,270 teens died from car accidents, and 221,313 were sent into the emergency room. Not only that but teens were accounted for 11% of the total cost for car accident injuries. This information supports the text because it shows how motor vehicles deadly impact teen lives and how we should raise the age limit to keep themselves and other
When it comes to gun safety there are many precautions one can take to maintain a safe environment at home. One of these measures that can help protect yourself and your family from any fatal accidents is a gun safe. The benefits of installing a safe definitely outweigh the negatives. There are many trusted local locksmiths around the country that can give you great recommendations on what safe to use. Just because you have a gun at home, doesn’t mean you are immune to the dangers that come with it. Having a gun comes with a responsibility and it should be treated as such.
The cost of college tuition is continually on the rise and has placed many burdens on high school students as well as their families. Some of the burdens that are placed are a result of parents putting pressure on their children to earn scholarships. Some of the burden is a result of students putting pressure on themselves to earn scholarships. Then, there is the burden of high college debt once the student graduates. Is this pressure really helping our students or is it hurting them? The bottom line is college tuition is skyrocketing out of control and something must be done before it destroys our families and our children.
My husband and were almost killed in a car accident as passengers. Our friend's dad was driving, and his son was in front passenger seat, as we were in the back passenger seats. His son, our friend, was killed in the accident. The accident happened late 2013.
What is going to stop a criminal from purchasing a gun if they’re already going to commit a crime? The city of Chicago has the strictest gun laws in the united states and is proven to still have the highest rate of crime in the country. I believe having firearms is a good way of protection. There was a survey of male felons in 11 state prisons dispersed across the U.S. 40% of the men had decided not to commit a crime because they knew or believed that the victim was carrying a gun. 34% of the men said they had been scared off, shot at, wounded, or captured by an armed victim. (Agretsi). This gun control controversy could impact not only me but other law abiding citizens who put thousands of dollars into their firearms. Going back to the 1920’s,
If one dreams it, one can achieve it. Sometimes it can be hard to picture doing something great that the normal person wouldn’t get to do, but that’s what is so great about dreaming big. With hard work, proper coaching, and proper equipment, it is completely possible to accomplish any goal one is dreaming of. This could even mean becoming a professional athlete. Nike created a campaign called “Risk Everything”, which emphasizes the idea of risking everything for the chance to succeed. It is symbolized with a skull and fire. Nike advertises this campaign with a commercial called, “Winner stays”, which creates a sense of motivation to young athletes to dream big and work hard while wearing Nike products to become the next big player that everyone is cheering for.
All 50 states prohibit 16-year-olds from drinking alcohol, buying cigarettes, and purchasing handguns. Yet somehow, most states are willing to put them in charge of a car. Teens don’t realize how dangerous driving can be; they believe nothing could ever happen to them. In reality, facts show that driving is the number one killer of teens. At 16 or 17, you may feel invincible, but with a lack of driving experience and distractions such as cell phones, music, food, and even friends, driving can be a dangerous activity. The problem is that teens don’t see certain actions as a life threatening risk. In a recent study, only 28 percent said using a cell phone is a risk while driving, ten percent said the same about having other teens in the car,
In a recent poll a whopping 36 percent of students felt that safe spaces were necessary on college campuses according to LendEDU, a student loan organization. Safes spaces provide an outlet for many who may take offense to material that negatively impacts a student’s emotions. Some students who have had traumas in their life take security in safe spaces due to the guarantee of not being in harm’s way of the lessons they may find offensive. In a world that is not censored from sensitive material in every location it is apprehensive to put trust into a specific location for security. Although many would agree safe spaces provide an outlet of security for those who have experienced traumas in their life, an alternative compromise should be in place to allow students to explore the world from different perspectives, learn to handle the tribulation of opposition, and to prepare students to overcome adversity outside of the classroom. Safe spaces on college campuses are defined as a place or environment in which a person or category of people can feel confident that they will not be exposed to discrimination, criticism, harassment, or any other emotional or physical harm therefor, it is wise to find comfort in the ideological sense of security a student would likely find in a safe space.
