In society today, a college education is often seen as a “the next step” in a young adult’s life. Whether they actually know what they would like to earn a degree in, they feel the need to continue their education as almost everyone around them is pursuing post-secondary education of some sort. It is often argued that a college education is not necessary to get ahead because of the manufacture based workforce that is up and coming in America, however, there are many benefits to having a post-secondary education such as a higher rate of pay and more job opportunities. One of the biggest overall benefits of having a college education to some degree after a high school diploma is the most obvious: the considerably higher pay rate that is available for those careers that often times require a degree. It’s a common misconception that big amounts of money will just come pouring in after they walk across the stage with their degree, however, the real benefits start stacking up you begin to pay off student loans and the are now being employed in a career within your degree specifications. A study done by Georgetown University proved that graduates from college “earn $1 million more in earnings over their lifetime” as compared to those who only had a high school diploma (Cornerstone). As well as that, another study done by the Pew Research Center found that in 2012, there was a HUGE average yearly income gap “between high school and college graduates” of around $17,500
In the essay “College Value Goes Deeper Than the Degree” author Eric Hoover claims a college education is important to one 's well-being so they can get a job and be productive in other parts of life. Promoters of higher education have long emphasized how beneficial college’s value and its purpose. Many believe the notion that colleges teach students are life skills to apply anywhere, they also work hard to earn a degree and learn specific marketable skills which they can use to get a good job. Though obtaining a college education and a degree is helpful in countless of ways, it is not necessary to pursue a college degree in world where a college degree is seen different now, people without turn out fine, the growing average of debt that students who attend college have to pay off and people without a degree can obtain many jobs that do not require college degrees.
This article shows the benefits of going to college than having a high school diploma. In the article, it states that college graduates get more well paid career opportunities. There are more unemployed high school graduates than there are unemployed college graduates. College graduates also make $17, 500 more than high school graduates. Another benefit of getting a college degree is being able to get an even higher degree. The benefits of having a college degree does not come without a cost.
There are a number of reasons that a school might fail, chief among them being an inequality of funds throughout a state’s public-school systems, a criminally underpaid staff, and a lack of retention among students over their summer break. To address these issues, I have created a three-pronged approach, one which I believe will fundamentally alter our public-school school systems for the better, and will ensure that our students receive a quality education that stays with them when they walk past the doors of our school and enter into the rest of the world. I call this reform “YES”, as it focuses on three essential areas of reform.
How great would it be to graduate from high school and have a job waiting for you that provides all you need? Unfortunately, this isn't a possibility for the majority of the people today. Today, a postsecondary education is standard for people obtain a job to sustain the comfort of their daily lives. Receiving a higher education positively impacts a variety of important aspects of a person's life. Education has been linked to influence community activity, personal health, unemployment and our economy. Author of “Bell Curve”, Charles Murray, has the opinion that we are wasting our time trying to educate too many people and only 10 to 20 percent of college attendees should be there(Perry, para 1). Robert T. Perry, author of “On “Real Education””,
Students in today’s society are prompted by all teachers to go to college, and this idea is being reinforced more than ever. Although there are a select few people that do not belong in college, this idea has never been more true. Jobs that require a college degree are becoming more abundant, and these jobs need to be filled. The only way these jobs can be filled is if the number of college graduates increases at the same pace as jobs that require a college degree are. Many issues over time have arisen on this matter, which has slowed down the growth rate of college degrees produced. Although these issues have slowed the production of college degrees, the demand has never been more high. There will always be jobs that do not require a college degree but the most important jobs to our country’s growth will require a person to have a postsecondary education.
Higher education is the greatest tool that can benefit a society, granted that universities can bring a sense of personal accomplishment and general knowledge. It is the Federal government's job to reflect on other educational systems, for instance Germany's higher education, and create an intuition that profits the public good and establishes a structured strategy that ensures college students are economically viable. For example, the University of California exploded when the Board of Regents approved a “32 percent tuition increases for the 2010 academic year, a vote that would raise the UC tuition to over $10,000 a year” (Selingo). Higher education should not be a risky future investment; it should be designed to help the general public and now obtaining a four-year diploma has become an essential way a person displays their preparedness for high demanding jobs. In addition, diplomas have become less available to the public due to the economic downturn, defunding of the public education systems, and increasing tuition rates. It is time to create a strategy that assists the public education system and that serves the common well-being. Therefore, it is the federal government's duty to reflect on Germany's educational methods that favor the public good and promote a change in the broken institutions by allowing free online universities and community colleges to offer four-year degrees.
Not everyone understands how important a higschool education is and how it shapes you into the person you're going to become. In highschool you get to pick who you want to be as a person, find your profession, and learn skills for the field you will be in. Maybe McDonalds does not require a highschool education, so If you drop out of highschool then McDonalds always has open doors. I believe that everyone should strive to receive a highschool education, because it could help
Studies have shown that one way to improve student achievement is to start an afterschool homework club. Teachers and students volunteer to meet with those who either have difficulty in certain subjects or who want to finish their homework early.
Studies have shown that one way to improve students achievement is to start an after school homework club. Teacher and students volunteer to meet with those who either have difficulty in certain subjects or want to finish their homework early. I believe that my school, Ridgeview middle School, should establish an after school homework club. To begin with, I know that not every student learns at the same pace. Homework clubs will be a very reliable source for students to learn something they have missed or just simply do not understand. Coupled with one-on-one time, homework clubs will be like heaven on Earth for students.
In today's modern age people are worried about acquiring success in their lives and are constantly working to secure that goal as soon as possible. One of the most obvious routes for a person to acquire and secure this success is to attend a college that will give them the beneficial knowledge that will grant them an advantage in the world. Our society is convinced that a college education is the only possible way for a person to achieve any form of success in their careers and for a long time our society has inflated the value that a college education has held in a person’s life. However, due to many peoples circumstance a college degree may not be the correct way for a person to achieve success, and now with the availability with somany
As a recent high school graduate, high school was an important time for every student. High school is the transferring stage of a student to the real world. Needing to learn important subjects that they will be able to carry and use for the rest of their lives. Which this is a situation faced in many school systems throughout the United States and across the world. Students losing important lessons from our education systems, going into adulthood. This problem was first realized by Prince George's school system, they had integrated a new way for students to learn and adapt to new ideas and concepts. The school system had added art techniques and classes into their core subjects. This addition to the classroom has greatly benefit the student and the people around it. This adaptation has been only used in elementary and middle school systems. Yet to come to a high school education system or any similar ideas to the system. Many High schools are not required for the student to take an art class. Losing many important traits and other ideas, including the ideas that have been used in the Prince George’s school system. To prevent such losses, high school students should be required to take an art class to help self-exploration, new techniques for learning the core subjects, and giving the ability to have a fun and a relax time.
One day, I attended a high school graduation ceremony. Proud parents and exciting graduates were ready to receive their diplomas and celebrate what they accomplished. The atmosphere was full of emotion, nervous, and some tension. This means the entrance to adulthood has more responsibilities, more challenges such as classes, and time management. For some, like undocumented students, high school graduation is as far as they can get, even if they want to continue their education the barrier of being undocumented does not allow them to qualify for financial assistance or other monetary programs. This may prevent them to pursue higher education. One of the options that will help them is to qualify for In-State tuition in their state they reside. I see this situation every day, students are constantly concern on how they will reach a higher education, if their parents are undocumented too. On another hand, parents are not excluding from this situation, because they blame on themselves for their kids future education. After all, many undocumented immigrant students were brought to the United States when they were little and this is the only country they know, respect, and are proud of. Most of them are ready to go to college and are ready to take the opportunity to do, if it will give to them. I strongly believe on education and everyone has the right to pursue higher education and it should not limit by the legal status or the type of tuition payment, but for the interest of having more young people with higher education. Some studies and statistics show the benefits of in-state tuitions for undocumented students and how does it work in the states were in-state tuition is eligible for them. I know education open doors for those who attend college. Actually, In-state tuition could not just benefit undocumented students, it will also benefit our society and life changes with education.
By far, one of the biggest advantages of going to college is that it gives you opportunity and access to more jobs in most fields which are mostly white-collared and highly paid jobs. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the annual salary differences (on average) between educational levels are staggering. High school drop outs make up to $18,734, while those who finish and graduate make up to $27,915. Choosing to finish all four years of high school already raises someone’s worth in the workplace nearly $9,000 more than those who choose not to finish. The high school graduates who choose to move on to college for four more years and obtain their bachelor’s degree, make about $51,206 a year, and any degree above that raises a person’s average salary to about $74,602 annually ("Educational Attainment", 2015). The more education a person receives, the more valuable they are to a company and the more that company will be willing
Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines education as the action or process of learning or of being taught by an overseer. In schools today, education can be viewed in many different ways, especially for students. Using American stereotypes; in athletic classes, the jocks can view education as merely a distraction from their actual goals; in AP or Honor level classes, students can view education as a form of power or accomplishment. Others may view education as a reason why they may want to be an outcast from our society. However in any of these circumstances, any one person could realize that education is different for everybody. Therefore, the real question is why education is standardized to work for all students, disregarding the
“Seven crappy hours of our lives” , also known as school , is a place where education take place. For some students, the term “education” is defined as “I hope I’ll pass this class” rather than the dictionary definition of “the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life.” Since school is supposed to be the key to success, there must be major fixups to remove the pre-existing bias within the education system.
