Planned Parenthood has been a topic of discussion for a while now. Do you know what Planned Parenthood does? Is defunding Planned Parenthood the right thing to do? These are some questions that people ask themselves. Most people only believe what they see and hear from the news and the papers. Is all Planned Parenthood about is abortions? The Government and the Trump administration want to defund the program, but why? Let’s get into it and find out. According to an article in the Washington Post (2008) it argues that “Planned Parenthoods confidentiality principles (it promises not to tell anyone of a teenager’s problems) conflicts with laws in all states that requires health care workers to report cases of sexual abuse or statutory rape.” A pro-life group based in Texas, called about 800 clinics around the country, many were run by Planned Parenthood. The caller would say that they were a 13-year old girl and that her boyfriend was 22, and she needed an abortion. There was an alarming 91% of the clinics told her that they would give her one and warned her not to tell her boyfriend’s age. This brings in almost one third of the $345 million in revenue. Also, pointed out by the article in the Washington Post (2008), “there is an abortion drug (RU-486) that has been linked to six American women’s deaths, four of them got the pill from a Planned Parenthood clinic.” They still refuse to follow FDA’s guidelines which requires the women to take the drug there at the clinic rather than taking it at home. It is also believed that there are some racial issues as well, according to the CDC and national members of the Alan Guttmacher Institute the overwhelming majority of abortions clinics are in metro areas.
