More than 30 people are shot and murdered each day. Gun Control is becoming a huge problem in the U.S.. Numerous people have died due to terrorist and criminals who have guns. The rise of gun casualties has created a debate on whether or not you are allowed to own a gun. The amount of restrictions on owning a gun has recently made it hard to get a gun. If no one is able to have a gun, then people will not be able to protect themselves. There needs to be a limit on the amount of gun laws, however there needs to be stricter background checks so that criminals can not get guns easily.

Once every thirteen seconds an American uses a gun to protect themselves (Harris). Americans having to use their guns that frequently is not the ideal situation, but without having guns once every thirteen seconds a person would die from an act of violence. Gun control should not be stricter in the United States because, guns are an excellent source of protection, guns can lower crime rates, and gun control laws only affects law abiding citizens.

Throughout the past 20 years, the purchase of guns have increased drastically but at the same time, crimes with firearms are down a shocking 69% (Snyder). Gun control is often used to create laws for the intention of reducing gun injuries or death by gun and might involve background checks or creating difficulty to own a gun altogether. Some believe strict gun laws will help America reduce murder rates. However, others believe gun control will remove the right to bear arms as an individual. America needs to refrain from enforcing gun control because citizens have the constitutional right to own guns and gun control will fail to decrease murder rates which would better be decreased by a basic education of gun safety.

American citizens have had the right to own guns and have had easy access to them since the Constitution was written. The Second Amendment grants militias the right to own guns to protect the citizens, but it can be interpreted in multiple ways. Like the Second Amendment, gun control and gun laws are just as old and have shaped the country in different ways. Recently, the easy accessibility to guns and lack of strict gun laws have increased the homicide, suicide, burglary, and theft rates, but there could be other variables that affect these data as well. Gun laws, and the lack there of, have affected American society in countless ways by improving and worsening Americans’ way of life.

In today's society, it is a norm to see people with guns, no matter who they or what their background is. The Second Amendment to our constitution allows American citizens the right to bear arms. In today's society, anyone can get a gun even if they are mentally ill or have a criminal background simply because our laws are too weak and are not being enforced. Today, I am here to talk to you about how and why we should add stricter and or new laws regarding gun control, such as (hold up fingers) having universal background checks and changing the laws regarding who can buy guns.

Many tragedies have occurred recently that have spurred the debate on whether or not we need tighter gun controls. On one side of the debate are the gun control supporters, who claim that the easy access to guns is the primary cause for high rates of crime plaguing the United States. On the other side are people who argue that gun laws will not prevent criminals from obtaining guns, since they will continue to get them illegally. Guns are used for protection when in the hands of people who obey the law. It is crucial to not hinder law-abiding citizen’s ability to possess firearms with stricter gun laws, since gun laws do not lower crime, and guns can keep people safe.

In the United States, there are many characteristics that we as americans pride ourselves with being known. Such as our copious amounts of food, our strong car game, our freedoms, our history, and our guns. Americans have had access to guns since the dawn of the colonies, one of our first amendments gives us the right to bear arms, and the fact has given rise to the debate about gun control. With many pro gun control saying things such as “More gun control laws would reduce gun deaths”, Stated by ProCon.org, statements like this are false in and out. For it is the gun user that is responsible for death, gun deaths are the result of criminal activity. This is why in America, gun control shouldn’t be altered no matter what, everyone should have a means to defend themselves with.

Imagine waking up in the middle of the night, and hearing sounds coming from downstairs. You know you should be alone, but there is someone else inside your house. What do you do? Would you call the police? The truth is, they would not be able to help you. You are all alone, and you have to be able to defend yourself. People need guns to defend themselves and those around them.

Imagine you just bought tickets to your absolute favorite artist. You probably invited your best friend or your significant other. You plan everything out down to your outfit, you get there, you find your seats, and then the artist walks on stage and the crowd goes wild. You are having the time of your life and so is the 8-year-old girl in front of you who came with her dad. Then you hear something strange; The artist stops singing and runs off stage. Someone has a gun; Shots are firing everywhere. People are bleeding and dropping dead and screaming for help. You hear about terrible things like this happening all the time, but you never think it would happen to you. What if this was you at the concert? Would that change your mind about gun

According to a New York Times article, in 2016, in every 100,000 deceased, 12 have died because of a gun. Using the U.S. population, about 38,800 people die due to a gun per year. As seen from the statistics in the article, violence from the misuse of gun privileges are one of the leading causes of death in the United States, much higher than knives and other weapons that are used to attack. Although guns are able to protect its owner, it does not justify the harm and danger that could establish. In addition, in 2016, researchers from across the United States reviewed more than 130 studies from 10 countries on gun control. The study did not look at only one specific scenario, but rather a variety of different kinds of gun control. The evidence is clear: “The simultaneous implementation of laws targeting multiple firearms restrictions is associated with reductions in firearm deaths.” Therefore, in order to help prevent the deaths of thousands of children, women, and men the US should enforce stricter, tougher gun control laws.

Gun control is a controversial issue in the United States right now. Especially because all the shootings that have taken place lately, such as, the shooting in California last week where a shooter killed four people trying to break into a school and the Las Vegas shooting where fifty-nine people were killed and more than five hundred were injured. There was also the Texas church shooting where at least twenty-six were killed and twenty wounded ranging from five to seventy-five years old. However, this time two locals heard the gun fire so they grabbed a rifle and began their pursuit causing the shooter to wreck his vehicle. Just like in this example many lives have been saved by a gun.

Imposing stricter gun control would only restrict innocent law abiding citizens while criminals will get guns by other means. Many criminals retrieve guns by burglary breaking into someone home and stealing them. Buying them from gangs members or having someone else purchase in their name for them. Taking them from family member’s house with not the family member knowing. Gun control in america has been a problem for many years now. We have 24 hours in a day which may seem like a lot but it’s not. Most people either go to work for half of the day or they are enrolled in school which leaves us with only a limited amount of time when we get home. Most likely the people who do buy guns does neither of these two things. Guns should not be allowed to american citizens because you never know what they are pondering about using the gun for. The best part about not allowing guns for citizens to use is that the rate of robborys, break ins, or even murders will decrease in america. This will make the jobs of police officers easier and more efficient. Guns should only be used for the army so they can protect our country.

Imagine sitting in a room with someone who is mentally unstable, is a criminal, and they should not have a gun. They have a gun in their hand and are pointing it at everyone in the room. Mentally unstable people or a criminal can get guns easily and they can harm people. It is not fair for someone to have to worry about getting hurt or killed when they go out. Gun regulation is the attempt to lower crime rate by tightening and creating laws on gun possession. Gun regulation is very important to understand because it is easy to obtain guns. It is easy for anyone to purchase a gun and experience a crime involving guns. Many people become victims of gun violence including children and teenagres who have gotten a hold of an easily obtained gun.

Guns are used all over the world and are controlled in some countries but in others people are allowed to have any type of gun ranging from automatic assault rifles to big rocket launches. Should it also be controlled in our country the United States of America? Many say no yes and many others say NO! In my opinion it should be controlled.
