The mass shootings across the country has led to many civilians wanting more gun control. President Obama spoke to the nation that more background checks will be ran to hopefully reduce this situation, and lower the gun deaths in the United States, however gun lobbyers argue that it is not the guns themselves that are causing the issue and they believe that no matter how many background checks are ran you cannot make sure that a fun will not be placed in the hands of someone who many end someone’s life unexpectedly.

Some Americans with a more liberal view believe that tighter gun control laws should be enacted. More conservative Americans believe that the gun control laws already passed should be followed through. The gun laws that have already been passed should be followed through opposed to enacting new laws because many laws are already in place, gun control laws do not stop illegally obtaining a gun, and strict gun control laws have failed to prevent mass killings in countries.

The violence in the United States is a big issue, but making more gun laws is not the answer. Imagine a woman being stalked by a predator outside of her home. Over a few days, she tells the police and files a report, but the problem persists. She fears for her life and tries to find a way to protect herself and her loved one. As a last resort, she travels to her local gun store because she needs to buy a gun for her safety. Unfortunately, the cashier explains that she’ll need to wait for her gun because there is a waiting period to receive her firearm. She begs and pleads and tells the cashier her situation and all the things she has tried, but the man can’t break the law for her. Reluctantly, she gives in and heads back to her unsafe home, only to be later assaulted and killed before her weapon could get to her in time. This type of situation happens unfortunately to some people, and it is because gun control laws have implemented waiting periods to receive your weapon. But that however, is just one of the many gun control laws that should be abolished in order to take a step forward towards a better society.

On April 16, 2007, Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 people and leaving 17 injured at Virginia Tech. On December 14, 2012, Adam Lanza went on a shooting spree in Newtown, Connecticut, killing his mother before shooting 20 1st graders and 6 adults at Sandy Hook Elementary. On June 12, 2016, in Orlando, Omar Mateen killed 49 people and injured 58 others. Most recently on October 1, 2017, 58 people were killed and another 489 injured when Stephen Paddock fired onto the crowd at the Route 91 Harvest music festival. Many more mass shootings have happened where more innocent people have lost their lives. Gun control has been in debate for some period, some people advocate for it while others dissuade it. Now more than ever, changes must be made to better protect people from losing their lives to a shooter. To prevent future tragedies in the United States, there should be stricter gun laws enforcing a more advance psychological test, imposing a federal gun license, and have a 1 month waiting period to receive the gun.

The United Sates has one of the highest rates of gun related violence. The major factors on gun violence are the powerful types of guns expressly designed for killing people and the lack of preventing all gun violence. America talks about death by gun violence. Gun control can come from all types of things in the world. 240,000 guns are given to minors without parents even knowing that they have one. The gun owners can sell a gun without having a background check and will not get in trouble for it. The United States Constitution’s Bill of Rights states that the Second Amendment which is the right to bear arms which is allowing us to have weapons in our hands; many individuals are becomingly increasingly unsure of where the line is drawn on being able to have a gun and what prevents people from using them for harm. Some people have argued that even though the Second Amendment does protect our individual rights to have the option to own arms, that it should give the government authority to ban high-crime communities from using handguns. There have been many mass shootings in our country lately. There was Dallas, Las Vegas, and other shootings at churches. One shooting at a church occurred in Tennessee right up the road from Florence. Shootings in churches have really scared people in the church. It is crazy to believe that in our country some people are scared to go to church because of shooters that could possibly come in and harm them. These shooters have no mercy on people. No matter how old or how young they are it does not matter to them. It takes a crazy person to shoot up a building full of all ages. One of the shootings a five year old was killed. That isn’t even close to right. The government shouldn’t control what kind of guns are sold. The government should control who’s buying the guns. Guns can be a very good thing. Many people like to hunt and that requires using a gun to enjoy their hobby. Others like maybe people who have been in the military just like to shoot guns for fun. Then you have the people who just like to collect guns that look good. Those are some good reasons to have guns. People also buy guns with the intention to harm others. That is where making it harder to buy guns would come in handy. It isn’t the gun that kills people, it is the person using the gun that kills people
