With all the recent events involving guns, the topic is very prevalent in today’s society. Gun usage has evolved drastically over the years. Conceal and carry is now legal on certain college campuses, mass shootings are a common event, guns are the 12th leading cause of deaths, including many other horrific events that occur with the usage of guns. Many of the time guns get in the hand of the wrong people which leads to the harm of others. Gun control should be stricken due to the many tragic events that happen each day.
There has been many recurring incidents involving mass shootings in the United States. Far more than many of the countries surrounding us. Gun control, the controversial issue that has been going on for many decades in

For example, in the Las Vegas shooting, Stephen Paddock, the shooter, modified at least one of his guns to a high-capacity magazine as well as modifying his semi-automatic rifle into a “machine gun-like killing machine” (Dugan) says Kevin Dugan. Another instance where high-capacity magazines were used was the Orlando nightclub shooting. The gunman was able to fire 200 bullets in the first 20 minutes, which led to the death of 49 people. For these reasons, high-capacity magazines should be banned, it would lessen the change of mass shootings to happen in the future. According to the New York post, high-capacity magazines are made by SureFire out of Mountain Valley, California. California, Connecticut, Connecticut, Washington D.C., Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York are all states that allow high-capacity magazines, which have become the standard method for mass shooters. If there were no more of them, gunmans would have to reload quite frequently in shootings which could lead to the jamming of the gun and give people some leeway to escape the scene or allow others to take down the shooter.
Everyday there are five or more women that are killed every day by the cause of a gun. There are many instances where women are killed by their partner. Whether it be they got in a argument or various other reason, the
As studies show, every day Americans are injured or killed by guns. However, to stop this ongoing issue our country needs to go to source of the problem and change the laws.
Every day in America an average of 93 are killed people due to gun violence. One of the biggest concerns today in American policy is gun control. This is a very controversial and complicated topic for both pro-gun and anti-gun supporters. American policy makers need to make it harder for the wrong people to obtain firearms and the fact that Second Amendment and gun control can co-exist. Mental illness constantly emerges in relation to mass shootings and shooters a like, as well as day to day homicides and suicides. America doesn’t necessarily have more crime then other developed countries the crime is just much more lethal. Right-wing Republicans constantly use the Second Amendment as shield to use firearms, the fact is the document is
School should be a place of peace and opportunity, but gaps in the system of gun control threatens the safety of faculty and students. School shootings have killed a total of 297 lives, young and old (Slate Magazine). Gun control has been a continuous nationwide debate for many years. It seems that no one wants to take a stance against guns unless they are personally affected. In order to take control of the matter and prevent more incidents from continuing schools need to change. To achieve a safe environment in schools need to educate faculty, safe and students, heighten security, and assess mental health issues.
"We are dealing with the largest mass shooting in our state's history," Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (Tegna) On a peaceful November morning during a “Sunday service at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas.” (Grinberg) A young man across the street from the church “was dressed in black "tactical-type gear" and wearing a ballistic vest he crossed the street in his car, got out and began firing he entered the church and continued shooting.”(Grinberg) During this time “a man who lives next door to the church grabbed his own rifle and engaged the suspect, The gunman dropped his "Ruger AR assault-type rifle" and fled. The neighbor chased after the gunman, police said. The chase ended when the shooter crashed his car about eight miles from
Guns falling in the wrong hands is a crucial problem in our society. The United States has 88.8 guns per 100 people which is the highest total and per capita number in the world. In America 38% of men and
Every so often the media and news feeds flood with reports of a mass shooting. Families mourn. In the days that follow, calls to action can be heard, and there is a demand for change. Sometimes minor legislation passes, but in the United States extreme change is rarely seen. Other developed nations provide an opposite comparison. Following the Port Arthur shooting in Australia and the shooting in Great Britain, both countries organized for significant gun reform.
The Second Amendment states, “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” The right to bear arms allows citizens to own and carry a fire arm. Not because it looks cool but to protect citizens from an oppressive government. It’s good to know if something drastic happens some citizens can protect themselves from others who are dangerous. The United Sates is one of the largest countries with the most firearms, and with that being said gun violence has gotten out of hand. This doesn’t mean that the second amendment is the cause of it.
According to Nicholas Kristof’s article “our blind spot about guns” gun control is a lot like cars regulation such that if we can regulate cars we can regulate guns. It took a lot of time and effort but thanks to regulations cars are safer than they were many years ago, and the same is very possible with guns. We need to keep our country safe. The first steps to gun control are improving on background checks and also requiring trigger locks on all guns.
Imagine at this moment seeing a loved one walking out those doors, perhaps the last time, and later in the day finding out he/she has been in a brutal shooting accompanied with other civilians. People are forced to think, ‘is there a way to stop the violence that is happening in the society’, however, there is a way, but it is not enforced. According to Gun Deaths in America, “More than 33,000 people are fatally shot in the U.S. each year.” This information goes to show that gun violence in all types is resulting the loss of innocent civilians and the system of gun control is weakening (Fivethirtyeight.com). Gun control is needed in the U.S. because civilians are living in fear, wondering if it’s the last time being in this world and having
In the last ten months, since the start of the year 2015, proximally 300 mass shootings have taken place in the United States. This number is about 100 times the amount of mass shootings in Australia since their gun restricting bill was passed in 1996. This raises the discussion whether or not changing the American gun laws would help bring down the total of injuries and fatalities.
As I sit here researching the topic on mass shootings and deaths in the U.S. a breaking news article popped up on my screen. In Texas today, November 5, 2017, 27 people were killed and 30 were injured. I would normally be in shock how someone can do such a thing to innocent moms, dads, kids, teens, and infants. But with the world we are living in now there are no surprises to me anymore with the recurring gun violence. It’s as if there is a contest to gain entry to the top mass shootings in U.S. history because this one in Texas has made it in. Exactly a month ago the Las Vegas shooting was taken place becoming the deadliest shooting ever recorded in U.S. history and this now being 4th in that list. Being the “greatest country” in the world I would think someone would have the common sense to realize guns are the issue not the people wielding them.
Assault rifles are becoming the weapon of choice in these recent mass shootings. Since 2004, out of 48 mass shootings 13 of them included assault rifles. The assault rifle can be bought in many states starting at the age of 18. According to the gun control group, since 2009 individuals under the age of 21 committed two mass shootings with an assault rifle. Only one of the two rifles used was bought legally, which means just a single shooting where at least four individuals were shot and slaughtered could have been prevented. Everytown for Gun Safety reports, since 2009 there have been 156 mass shootings, eleven of these shootings were committed by individuals under the age of 21. Out of those 156 incidents 11 of those the shooter used an assault rifle. Although You have to be 21 to
Gun control continues be a controversial and divisive topic in United States. The United States is the country with the highest rate of civilian gun ownership. Many people buy guns to protect themselves and their families. Some people buy guns for suicide, and some for crimes. Guns can bring security to many people, as well as insecurity for many. Should people be allow to have guns?
It is clear that more guns leads to more deaths. A research conducted by Harvard Injury Control Research Center shows that where there are more guns, there is a high risk of homicide across states in USA (assault, robbery, quarrel…). Moreover, the mortality rate related to firearm accident in 4 states with the most guns are 4 times higher than 4 states with the fewest guns
An ever increasing emphasis on the prevention of mass shootings has presented the option of gun control and bans. Mass shootings have occurred many times throughout history, but have
