February 25th, 2016 Gun Control
The United States faces many problems today, with one of the most concerning being gun control. It has affected the Nation in a tremendous way with innocent people dying. Homicide rates in America are alarming and more frequent than ever. In my opinion, the reasons why we should be more strict on gun control is because they have the ability to create chaos in general, which is the result of them being in the possession of wrong people like children and criminals.
Guns falling in the wrong hands is a crucial problem in our society. The United States has 88.8 guns per 100 people which is the highest total and per capita number in the world. In America 38% of men and
The issue of gun control begins with the careless distribution of firearms and how easy they are to obtain. In the United States, many mass killings by gunmen in civilian settings set
More than 30 people are shot and murdered each day. Gun Control is becoming a huge problem in the U.S.. Numerous people have died due to terrorist and criminals who have guns. The rise of gun casualties has created a debate on whether or not you are allowed to own a gun. The amount of restrictions on owning a gun has recently made it hard to get a gun. If no one is able to have a gun, then people will not be able to protect themselves. There needs to be a limit on the amount of gun laws, however there needs to be stricter background checks so that criminals can not get guns easily.
Gun control is a very complicated topic, there are two sides to the issue and many ongoing arguments between both sides. With the recent outbreak of school shootings this topic has only gotten touchier. Some people even believe the 2nd amendment should be repealed. This topic is commonly avoided but it must be discussed, between school shootings and terrorist attacks everyone is at risk. Gun control is a topic that affects everybody regardless of age, gender, or race.
Gun control should not exist at all in the United States. Mass shootings have almost become seen as normal event in the United States. What people do not understand is that gun control is not the answer; there are countries with little to no control that have fewer shootings. According to The Washington Post,Finland is ranked number 4 in countries with the most guns despite that they only had 24 homicides by firearm (“Gun homicides and ownership by countries” n.pag.) . In the article Did Gun Control Work In Australia “it is shown that gun control has reduced the problems but it still has not completely got rid of all firearm deaths”(Matthews n.pag.). The number of murders, homicides, or suicides do not go up due to people just owning more guns. Clayton Perry, a staff writer at the University of Maine, even points out “Stricter gun laws were in place during the Assault Weapons Ban between 1994 and 2004, but that didn't stop the shooters at Columbine in 1999 ”(Perry n. pag.). In Iceland, thirty out of a hundred people own a gun and they have zero homicides caused by guns a year(“Gun Homicides and ownership by country” n. pag.). In this day and age, everything is unpredictable, guns are a form of protection for everyone and there should not be restrictions on protection. The U.S. Department of Justice released a data brief that states, “ On average in 1987-92 about 83,000 crime victims per year used a firearm to defend themselves or their property”(Rand BJS Statistician n. pag.). The National Sheriffs Association released that the average police response time is at eighteen minutes while the average school shooting only last twelve minutes (“Embracing Technology To Decrease Response Time” n. pag.). Gun control should not exist because other countries do fine without it , high gun ownership has no link with increasing death rates , and guns are not harmful when instructions are followed.
Gun control is a very controversial topic that has has a huge impact on the United States of America. One side believes that if guns were taken away as a whole, the country would see significantly less gun related crimes and death, while the other opposing side thinks that taking away guns is not only against the Second Amendment but would lead to an increase in crime and death because the government would take guns away from people who are legally registered to own and conceal guns. The ongoing debate will continue until the foreseeable future but their are plenty of reasons why more gun laws should be made. Taking away guns is not the answer, learning how to deal with gun violence is the key.
In today’s society the majority of the crimes are still being committed by people who have possessed a firearm that has been obtained illegally or without proper permits. That being said there has been a strong push for gun control because of the rise of shootings involving a large group of people such as the Columbine massacre, Virginia Tech shooting and latest Aurora movie theater shooting involving people who have purchased firearms legally. Gun control laws in the United States have been established for many years but to maintain a civilized society with limited crime stronger control laws need to be enforced in which will help reduce crime in our country. Establishing stronger gun control laws will educate
Gun control is a very divisive subject in our country today. It is so divisive because some people really think they should be able to own their personal guns. However some people disagree with this. Over the last couple of years gun violence has been increasing dramatically. The United States leads the world for most mass shootings from 1966 to 2012 with 90 shootings.
Stricter gun laws are required to reduce casualties caused by gun violence. People have right to own guns base on the 2nd amendment of the U.S constitution. According to “Background on Gun Control” 91% percent of Americans say that there should be least minor restrictions on gun ownership. However, research shown that children who died after being accidentally shot has increased from 140 in 1996 up to 259 in 2012 every year. In my opinion, the U.S government should increase stricter gun regulations on background check; mental examination and safety trainings to prevent misfiring that cause death and injuries among our friends and family.
Gun Control are laws that are put in place to regulate and promote gun safety. Isn't that just plain common sense? "But we are the only advanced country on Earth that sees this kind of mass violence erupt with this kind of frequency."(Obama) Gun Violence is a problem that sadly has been embedded into our culture. But why? Guns have been part of culture since our arrival to the New World. Guns played a huge part in search for our independence as the Revolutionary war started with the first shots fired in Boston, MA. But, as time progressed guns began to do more harm than good. Gun violence is increasing as 89 people are victims of gun violence every day. But as soon as the horrible phantom is happening, groups such as the National Rifle Association
The Controversial issue that gets to me the most is gun control. A lot of people make it about politics but it should be all a moral issue. Yes the government has to get involved but only to issue a license. Even though right now the government gives out license to people who take several tests to carry a concealed weapon but that is not in every state. And even if you have It, it’s only for that one state that you took it in it is illegal in any other state.
“Gun control is the set of laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, possession, modifications, and or use of firearms by civilians.” Why is it such a controversy to have guns or don’t have guns? What makes guns so bad? I think that the American citizens should have guns, but with responsibility.
In the course of history gun control and mass shootings has always been an issue, but much too often, history has been being made. Gun control is an understatement for what actually is being implemented. The process to get a gun, for example, a rifle, is all too easy. Let me personally walk you through this gruesome process . First, you walk into the store, second you pick your desired weapon, third you walk to the cashier to do a background check, finally you buy the gun. The hardest part about that process was choosing the actual weapon you want. With little gun control comes more mass shootings, and with more control comes less mass shootings. Obtaining a gun is much too easy, and needs to become more strict, or even
In the United States gun control is a big issue because it can affect the lives of innocent civilians. There are a lot of people in this country that believe that the guns are not the problem, but that the person using the gun is the problem. If that was the case, than the rate of murders and suicide would not be as high as it is. Innocent people get killed everyday due to the abuse of firearms. Therefore, if the gun control laws were more strict than the rate of deaths in the United States would greatly
The first reason why gun control laws should be enacted is because lots of people die from guns every day. Countless people in the USA have been affected by someone they know having to die from guns. According to the CDC, ¨There were 464,033 total gun deaths between 1999 and 2013: 270,237 suicides (58.2% of total deaths); 174,773 homicides (37.7%); and 9,983 unintentional deaths (2.2%)¨(CDC, "Data & Statistics (WISQARS)," (wisqars.cdc.gov). Those figures alone tell just how dangerous guns are when placed in the hands of human beings. It is so easy for people to be able to get guns that almost anyone can get their hands on one if they want to. For instance, according to Mayors. "The Connection between Domestic Violence and Weak Gun Laws is alarmingly high." (www.ncdsv.org). If it is easy for people to get guns they can be used for almost any reason. This quote shows how having weak gun laws contributes to Domestic Violence. We need to make gun control laws to protect us because lots of people are dying or being hurt from gun usage.
It is impossible not to open a newspaper, watch the television, or listen to the radio with out hearing about some type of gun violence. Perhaps the main reason for such high gun violence is that guns are so plentiful in the Unites States. In fact, there are sixty five million handguns in America ("The `facts' about Guns"). These guns contribute to an annual medical cost of fourteen billion dollars, which is spent solely on treating gun victims ("Handguns in America"). Not surprisingly, handguns are the cause of eighty percent of homicides, seventy percent of suicides, and almost every accidental shooting ("Youth and Violence"). Handgun violence is a problem that is easy for everyone to see. How to solve this predicament is another
