The 44th president of the United States, Barack Obama said during Navy Yard shooting memorial service, “ I do not accept that we cannot find a common sense way to preserve our traditions, including our basic second amendment freedoms and the rights of law abiding gun owners, while at the same time reducing the gun violence that unleashes so much mayhem on a regular basis.” Over the years, many people have debated whether the United States should enforce more gun laws or if the second amendment is enough to protect the people. Statistics have shown that in 2015, there were 372 mass shootings in the U.S., killing 475 people and wounding 1,870. Gun violence in the United states is a major national issue that results in tens of thousands of deaths and injury every year. President after president have been bashed for their thoughts or actions on gun control. Republicans typically believe that their should not be gun control laws, while democrats support gun control laws. However, with the constant gun violence in the U.S., gun control laws should be put into effect due to mass murders, high crime rates, and the loopholes in the judicial system. In recent months, two massacre shootings have occurred in two different states. The first shooting was on October 1, 64-year-old Stephen Paddok open fired on a crowd of 22,000 concertgoers at the Route 91 Harvest music festival.
