Gay Marriage
Ellen DeGeneres, who is a famous TV host, once said, “Do we have to know who’s gay and who’s straight? Can’t we just love everybody...” marriage is not about if your straight or gay it really about who you fall in love with and how that person is going to help you expand your life. As the year's pass, America became divided between being for or against gay marriage. The fact that in 1986 was when the court first considered the matter in gay marriage with the case of Bowers V Hardwick, a challenge to Georgia law authorizing criminal penalties for a person guilty of Sodom which prove that gay right law was questioned all the way back in the 19centuries. however, they are two supreme court decisions involving gay marriage, one decade apart, have left a lot of people wondering just where the law now stands with respect to the right to engage in homosexual conduct. However, we as the people, need to come together and help them give that right back to homosexual couples so they could be able to marry and live freely with their spouse. In addition, gay marriage should be legal in every state because denying some people the option to marry is discrimination and create second-class citizens; however, marriage is human rights and same-sex couples can make a better couple.
Denying someone the ability to marry whom they love is discrimination and creates the second class of citizen. The law should not have the right to pick and choose who they're
Homosexuals have been denied the right to be married because many people feel, "The union of a man and woman is the most enduring human institution, honored and encouraged in
Americans view/ deem to be happiness ont eh standards of the American Dream: the ability to achieve economic success. A “normalized” family based on American standards encompasses the idea of marriage and having children. Before the legalization of gay marriage, this “dream” was generally exclusive to heteronormative couples. Slowly, the acceptance of gay marriage as another possibility has opened up the “normalized” family structure to include homosexual couples. The dream is the image of happiness and for those who do not try to achieve it are not deemed happy. Those who choose to be included into this structure are more tolerated than others who do not fit in this molded construct. (AHMED W/ marriage and kids) Queer individuals try to replicate a model that can very well have been defined in heteronormative settings and trying to adapt it: performativity.
In the present time, marriage between two people of the same sex is legal in 37 states and the District of Columbia. During the course of the United States’ history, people have fought discrimination. People has battled to recognize equality for racial minorities, women, people with disabilities, and immigrants. As a result, denying some people, the option to marry due to their sexual orientation is discriminatory and creates the idea of a second of class citizens. I am pro-gay marriage not only for what I have stated before but also for the following disclosure.
Today’s society has many strong opinions on who people should marry, especially when the couple is same sex. Marriage is a commitment between two people, and overtime homosexuals have been denied their necessary rights as a human. Luckily, Americans live in a land where they can marry whomever they choose, but in many states homosexuals are left out of the deal because they choose to marry the same sex. Gay and lesbian couples a bid by laws and should be treated with the same fairness and equality as any other human being.
In the past, the definition of Marriage was a union between a man and a woman, but not anymore; today it has changed to a union between two individuals. Times have changed Mr. Prime Minister and the term of Marriage has been redefined. Society has come to learn and accept that being gay is not a choice or a sickness and that gay couple should have the right to be legally united with the ones they love. We live in the land of which my generation’s great grandparents have been fighting to establish, a county which they can be free in. We must promote equality rather than creating second class citizens. Sadly, these individuals are being deprived of their right to marry. We work, vote, and pay taxes. Just like I have my civil duties Mr. Prime Minister, I should have my civil rights. When this basic right is being prevented from these equal individuals, it sends a wrong message to the
On June 26th, 2015, the US Supreme Court decided that the US Constitution guarantees the right for same-sex couples to marry in all 50 US states. This means all US states must allow gay and lesbian couples to have a marriage license and recognize marriages that have taken place in other states. This decision is a significant victory for gay rights activists who have fought for years in the lower courts. Thirty-seven states and the District of Columbia already recognized marriage equality. The remaining 13 states ban these unions, even as public support has reached record levels nationwide. The LGBT community has made a lot of progress over the years, and there is still more to come. Now that gay marriage is legalized it has not only made a huge impact on gay culture, but also on society.
Francis DeBernardo, head of a LGBT Catholics organization, has said that "many gay and lesbian couples are leading lives of heroic devotion to each other, their children, and their communities. I hope and pray that you will reflect not only on the harm that this decree will cause but also the good that can occur if you withdraw it." (Crary). People who like the same sex shouldn't be categorized in society as people to be frowned upon when they lead a good example, but others disagree. This is why the discussion of same-sex couples is so controversial. Gay marriage is a very important issue in modern society in the U.S because it is more accepted than what it used to be by everyday people and household life is healthier than in opposite sex marriages; unfortunately, it is still frowned upon by many and some business owners still decline service due to discrimination.
Same sex marriage is a highly controversial topic that has been lingering in America for some time now. The American society prides itself in the provision of equal rights and opportunities to all, yet, homosexuals continue to be discriminated against and denied their rights to marriage. It is often believe that “marriage is a commitment between two people that love each other and want to share the rest of their life side by side. It is not measured by whether it is a man and a woman, or a couple of the same sex. It is measured by how much a couple loves each other and cares for each other.”(Cheney, 2009) Looking at that definition of marriage, there should never be any reason to deny two people that love each other the right to legally
It would be crudfully wrong to take someones rights away and not make them feel equal. There is a thing called human rights and it states (your right to have and express your own opinions, your right to an education, your right to a private and family life and your right not to be mistreated or wrongly punished by the state. Human equality rights) This is saying no matter what you are or who you are as a human you get these rights. Some against this may say that these rights don’t say you get the choose of what you marry. To that I say that it says you have the right to have your own
Our world is a fallen one, and sin is pervasive. This affects every aspect of life, perverting the codes, institutions, and relationships God created for us. Marriage is no exception. I believe there have been disturbing marriage trends at all times in man’s history, including the present day. Currently, there are many ways in which marriage is being perverted, abused, or neglected. However, there is one trend that particularly troubles me: homosexual marriage. Obviously this topic is hotly debated and has massive amount of coverage at the moment. However, despite all the controversy, those who actually identify as homosexual are a tiny portion of the population of the United States, somewhere under two percent. Despite this, the media has taken up the cause and is constantly preaching the issue to the public. Contrary to what much of the population now thinks, I believe there are several reasons homosexual marriage is dangerous. Most importantly it is against biblical standards. It is also very harmful to children. In addition, I believe it is doing great damage to our culture and society.
First, it can clearly be seen that same-sex marriage is primarily about equality. Everyone has equal rights and liberties to chase happiness, as long as it does not cause harm to the society, so why should their freedoms be limits? Why can’t someone be able to marry a person they truly love? Discrimination and banning homosexual couples to get married violates human rights and freedoms. Laws which against gay marriage deny the First Amendment which states that everyone has freedom of speech, expression and religion. Sexual determination is an option, so it is how some people can express themselves.
The United States constitution creates all men equally, therefore if a person wants to marry someone of the same sex, and they are not allowed to do so because it is against the state law that they live in it is causing inequality to humans because someone of the opposite sex is allowed to get married without a question or doubt in all fifty states.
Marriage? What is it? What does it consist of? Marriage is when two people make their relationship public, official and permanent (Psychology Today). When two people have committed themselves to each other to live together through the harsh and glorious times. Theses harsh and glorious times makes the couple overcome these obstacles and makes the people in the marriage develop. The traditional marriage consists of man and woman. The man and woman would have house and they have two children and a pet. Along with children and pet the man would go to work and the wife would stay at home to take care of the house. This was the reality that occur in the 20th century. That reality that had occur in the 20th century is no longer instance. Instead the ideal household is more diverse in today in day. It could consist of a single mother, or just two friends living together. There is no specific household. With the household being amended marriages are influence by it. Just like the household has change, marriages now a day can consist of a man and man or a woman and woman or much more. Same sex marriage has been becoming more accepting in countries and all around the world. Regardless of what gender the two partners are people should be allowed to love who they love and be with they want to be with.
Adoptions from the LGBTQ adults is a great thing because it gives the chance to make a family and put a child into a good home. It helps kids get out of the child welfare system. There are 107, 918 foster children that are waiting to be adopted, and every year there is around 50,644 kids that are adopted. That number has been closely the same for five years. According to Live Strong, “Gay parents may be able to better convince a child that they understand bigotry and discrimination because they have been exposed to them” (Live Strong). Being raised by two gay people will help the child learn that people should not be discriminated for who they want to be with. The children will have an open mind set and they will not judge others. It is important in life to have more people that want to love others instead of hating on them, and it is important to legalize LGBTQ marriage because it will spread more love around the world.
Looking at the recent Supreme Court ruling which approved the legalization of gay marriage in the United States, establishing a new civil right and handing gay rights advocates a historic victory, some individuals like William Baude in the New York Times are now wondering if legalized polygamy may be next, while some like Fredrik Deboer in Politico are already suggesting that it should be. The truth is that restricting marriage in any form between consenting adults, is absolutely a violation of human right. Monogamy, Polygamy, and Gay marriage should all be legal. People deserve a right to marry with whomever they so choose. Cheating has never solved the problem, and cheating will never solve the problem.
