“Need a photo of yourself turned into anime? Want to analyze your customers’ signatures to see if they’re crazy? Need help choosing wedding colors? No problem, just post it to Fiverr and let the community help you out. Would I recommend this for anything that had a substantial impact on your business? Probably not. But if you need someone to record audio versions of your blog posts and you’re too afraid to do it yourself? Hey, this may be a way to go. Crowdsourcing is a great way to help move your business forward, while allowing you to pay attention to actually running it. You just want to remember a few things: 1. You get what you ask for: The better you are about identifying exactly what you’re asking people to do, the better they’ll be able to meet your criteria. Always offer more information than you think they need, not less. Otherwise, you get back something completely different than what you were hoping for. 2. You get what you pay for: While it’s important to make projects cost-effective, don’t be a Scrooge and expect someone to do a full day’s work for $5. If you’re only paying five dollars, you’re only going to get five dollars’ worth of work. 3. You get what you give: Designers thrive on feedback and recognition. Make sure you’re staying involved and giving them the feedback they need. How has crowdsourcing worked for your business in the past? Any pleasant surprises or horror stories you’re willing to offer up? I’d love to hear them.” (Lisa Barone 2010)
My plan is to survey customers from competitors and customers from SHLD. Over the past week, I have successfully surveyed SHLD customers. The survey is printed out on a business card and given to customers as they leave. SHLD allowed me to do this, but competitors such as Wal-Mart and Target will not agree to give out the business cards to their customers. This put me in a difficult place and forced me to think of other ways to collect information from competitor’s customers’. I was able to overcome this obstacle by posting the link of the survey on Wal-Mart’s Facebook page and twitter account. This allowed me to start collecting information from competitor’s
2. Do you feel you will make a difference through your participation in this project?
AOL engaged in what is called “micro-tasking”, and is believed to revolutionize the virtual workforce. Micro-tasking is what Daniel Maloney, an AOL executive, applied when he was faced with inventorying a vast video library. He broke the large job into small pieces and utilized a crowdsourcing IT platform, Mechanical Turk, in order to describe each task that he required to be done. Each worker was asked to find web pages containing a video and identify the video’s source and location. The project started within a week and completed in a couple of months. The total labor cost was as low as it would‘ve been to hire two man-month
Hosting events that endorse helpful organizations appears to be a top priority of my community. There are ostensibly events every week supporting different foundations and charities and regardless of its modest population, the number of participants is awe inspiring. Everything
I don't want you to go to church because you feel like you have to. I want you to go when you're ready. We're family now.
All across the United States of America, police officers are unfortunately, due to the lack of funding, being laid off, prisoners are being set free, the court systems are being bombarded with cases and the overall crime rate in this country continues to climb higher and higher despite our efforts to lower it. Since the economic crisis in 2008 resulting in our country falling into a recession, the criminal justice system has been forced to make cuts all the way to the very foundation. Many states throughout America were forced to release a large number of their prisoners early because of a lack of funding. For example the State of Florida released over 2500 of their inmates due to the budget crises caused by the recession. The State of
Make sure that all of the winning bids have followed the rules, if they have not, move to the highest bid that followed the rules. Write on the bidding sheet the information of the winning bidder. Then, call up the winning bidders to pay for and collect their items to a checkout area. In order to be able to make the most, be able to accept cash, checks, and credit cards. A card reader that attaches to a smartphone can be bought very inexpensively. As people pay, have volunteers collect the items for them. Be sure volunteers are also watching the items, or bring them all to the checkout area, just to guard against theft. Ideally, this will not be necessary, but it is better to be safe than
Student searches help schools prevent distribution and usage of drugs, and weapons, but do they infringe on our constitutional rights? Yes, they do. Student searches take away the student`s right to privacy, their right to not be unreasonably searched, and they take up time and resources that some schools don’t have.
Most crowdsourcing platform implementation projects fail. To succeed, therefore, requires understanding of the importance of crowdsourcing platform as a strategic tool and the need for its continuous review throughout development and implementation phases. One of the critical success factors is the design of a robust revenue-generating infrastructure powered by a secure user and customer authenticated e-commerce engine. A crowdsourcing platform development is an investment at risk. The cost of development increases with each development phase. The investment should be reviewed at each key checkpoint in development and should be justified based on the data available.
Crowdsourcing in this report refers to the process of attaining needed thoughts, services or content from a large group of people (Merriam-Webster, 2015). Different from outsourcing, it decomposes and distributes the tasks to a public group which did not be defined, but not a specific group. The aim of this report is to find differences between several platforms of crowdsourcing and then give precise recommendations for our client Forever 21. By analysing the target markets of Mechanical Turk, Freelancer, Odesk, Would You Rock This (WYRT) and Spoonflower, and outlining the value proposals of these companies, the American fashion retail chain, Forever 21 is recommended to choose the crowdsourcing platform Would You Rock This. Further analyses are developed by researching the application of
Volunteer work. Those two words are dreaded by millions of people. Some associate it with unpaid, free labor; after all, it has the word “work” attached to it. Those that do “enjoy” volunteer work tend do see it as it being a resume filler or as compliment to their college application; they do not take too much out of the experience. Through the eyes of Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK), volunteering can be seen as so much more than dreaded labor or a resume buff- it can have an impact on the world. Moreover, volunteer work can be the change that fixes the inequalities in this world. On the surface, volunteering may not seem like it’s going to affect someone, much less change the the world. But even volunteering just an hour can impact the life coarse of someone. Specifically, volunteering at schools helps to solve the injustice in the segregated schooling system. Service learning has taught me that taking action is the only way to make change in order to fight inequalities. The only way we can improve the education system today, is if we take action by volunteering. ((Transition Sentence))
Feedback is key. Gathering feedback information will help a company overcome barriers. The idea here is to avoid misinterpretation and misunderstanding by assembling all of the facts. Take both professional and customer feedback, take it into consideration and apply their criticism to your work.
While this idea won't suit every type of business, it should still be taken into consideration. Once you've established your share of the market, it might be time to ask people what they want from you. New products, better customer support, a more varied selection of blog articles, you name it. People will always have certain expectations from you. And while you're not always going to make everyone happy, it's still very important to listen to the voice of the crowds.
I believe the volunteering work that I’ve put in my four years of high school will have benefited me because I have taken school and volunteering very seriously. For the past two years I have been a part of the National Honors Society, which requires a minimum of 20 hours of community service per year. This past year, I’ve also been active in a Leadership class, where I am in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Being a part of NHS and BBBS has really opened up many opportunities that I’ve never thought about doing. I’ve volunteered at many places including Cascades Humane Society, the Jackson Friendly Home, the Lyle Torrant Center, the Michigan Center Food Pantry, and I read to first graders every week.
Crowdsourcing today, as survey groups were in the past, is a useful and effective tool for companies to use to ensure that the products or services they provide are something that the general public, or their customer base, is interested in. However, care must be taken to ensure that not only are the results are accurate and not tainted by some form of manipulation, but also that the information gathered is actually something that is used. In the first case, data manipulation could cause a company to provide something that doesn’t sell, and leave them with
