Earth's oceans are dying. “About 80% of the ocean around the world is polluted with chemicals industrial and residential waste, all of which comes from the land” (“Marine Problems…”).  Pollution is mainly coming from the people. Marine pollution should be stopped because it is the cause of many problems and if something is done about it, people will see an increase in sea life and healthier waters. It makes its way into the ocean and kills marine life. Ocean pollution is affecting the way of fisherman and their everyday lives. The average American household uses approximately 300 gallons of water each day (Attari). Only 13.2 gallons of clean water are required per day for human needs such as, drinking, sanitation, hygiene, and food preparation (Attari). These statistics show that Americans use more water than needed to live a sustainable lifestyle. As water usage goes up, so does water pollution as a byproduct. Americans must reduce water usage in order to minimize water pollution and preserve clean water.

Mercury pollution occurs from industrial sources such as mining, power plants and coal combustion centers. When mercury is released from the sources, it can travel halfway around the world before it ever enters into the waterways and contaminates the fish that we then eat. Through the trade of those fish, people in every continent are at risk for mercury pollution. Newborns are also at risk of mercury pollution due to the consummation of fish by their mothers, thousands of babies are at risk every year of impaired motor skills (“Reduce Mercury Pollution”). In order to reduce the pollutants of mercury we need to implement a policy to clean up sites already contaminated, limit the amounts discharged into the water and provide consumers on tips to reduce their exposure to it.

Conventional farmers say that plants not sprayed with pesticides will fall prey to insects and weeds. The answer to this is not found in chemicals, but in conscientious farming and organic practices. Pesticides and herbicides are repulsive substances that unintentionally kill animals, destroy the environment, and are harmful to those who ingest them.

If you were informed at a young age that you must reside in the same house until you pass away, would you lead a lifestyle that results in the destruction of your only permanent shelter? Would you shatter the windows, smash the appliances, and wreck the structure almost to a point of no return? Your answer to these questions would most likely be no, because any logical person would see the absurdity in irresponsibly ruining the one place you are confined to for your entire life. Why, then, does the human race have such difficulty applying this same concept on a larger scale? Why do we struggle to realize that the collective choices we make affect our surroundings in a monumental way? Why do we not take the utmost care in preserving the only home we have ever known? If Earth is the sole place in which living organism can dwell, why are we are steadily destroying it?

Today people say global warming is a natural cause, but what if I told you, you are contributing to it? Certain things released into the atmosphere such as greenhouse gasses are causing fresh water reserves in glaciers to melt, the climate to change and much more. The human race plays a vital factor to the death of this planet everyday due to our thoughtless attitude towards nature. Global warming is a massive problem in our generation and we need to stop contributing to it.

People are in danger if action is not taken soon everything will be lost. Global warming and the runaway greenhouse effect is real and dangerous. The reason global warming is crucial is because it will affect everyone’s future lives across the globe. Well, that is if they are able to sustain life by then.
