Everyday decisions are made by everyone and every intelligent living being. Small or large every person must decide what to do in their own lives and consider how it will affect others. Their comes a time in all of our lives when we will make a decision that will change the course of our lives and possibly the lives of those around you. New York City Thursday, The fifteenth of January. This day a routine flight to intended for Charlotte, North Carolina would soon turn into one of the most significant and popular flights of the 21st century. Less than 3 minutes after leaving the ground and only being 3200 feet above ground level a flock of geese was sucked into the engine of the Airbus (Air Documentaries 6/27/14). Captain Chesley Sullenberger had to make the split second decision to conduct an emergency landing of flight 1549 in the Hudson River without proper training or prior preparation. People have questioned whether or not Captain Sullenberger mad the right decision. I believe that Captain Chesley Sullenberger did in fact make the correct decision to land the 66-ton Airbus in the Hudson River. Less than 3 minutes after leaving the ground and only being 3200 feet above ground level a flock of geese was sucked into the engine of the Airbus (Air Documentaries 6/27/14). The 66-ton air plane’s engine was so heavily damaged that intense flames surrounded the right and left wing. The plane began to lose 16ft of altitude per second while soaring over Bronx, New York(Air
American Airlines Flight 1420 tragically crashed on June 1, 1999. The flight crew attempted to land the McDonnell Douglas DC-9-82 in Little Rock, Arkansas during a thunderstorm. The aircraft overran the runway, crashing through several obstacles before coming to rest 800 feet from the end of the runway. Eleven people were killed and over 100 injured. This preventable accident was the result of human error, miscommunication, and poor decision making. After investigating the Flight 1420 crash, the NTSB made several recommendations to the FFA addressing the issues that led to the accident in an attempt to prevent such errors in the future.
On Saturday, August twenty-second, a stunt plane at an air show in England crashed and killed seven people. It was said that the pilot of the stunt plane was attempting to do a loop, but lost control and crashed onto a highway. The seven people that were killed in this accident were people just driving on highway and were caught in the accident. The plane model that crashed was called a “Hawker Hunter”, and it was a plane model from the Cold War. Along with the seven people that were killed in the accident, there are around fourteen people that were injured.
Having escaped rule from a tyrannical British government, the United States was founded on ideals of freedom and equality for all people. These fantasies of universal egalitarianism turned out to be merely that: fantasies. American history is full of stories of the oppressed struggling to get the rights they deserve and of the controversy over these issues that consequently ensues. “The Hypocrisy of American Slavery” by Frederick Douglass and “We Shall Overcome” by Lyndon B. Johnson are two speeches made confronting two of these issues. Douglass’s speech, delivered in 1852, condemns the institution of slavery and maintains that slaves are men and are therefore entitled to freedom. Johnson’s speech, on the other hand, was written in 1965 and discussed the civil rights movement. In it, he implored local governments to allow all American citizens, regardless of race, to vote. Despite the significant gap in time between these two addresses, both speakers use similar persuasive techniques, including ethos, pathos, and parallelism, to convince their audience that change needs to be implemented in America.

An American Airline, Boeing 767, had been hijacked and was loaded with 20,000 gallons of jet fuel. Boeing 767 was crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. The impact of the crash had left a wide open, burning hole near the 80th floor of the 110-story skycraper. The crash of the Boeling 767 had instantly killed over hundreds of people, and left hundreds more people trapped up in the higher levels of the skyscraper. Firefighters and other rescuers had started to evacuate the people left in the World Trade Center. Leaving numerous people confused, startled, and petrified about the hijacked plane and the accident, many people had not known that it had only been the start of the day.
No one ever thought the Titanic would sink, but it did. No one ever thought the Argistan 447 would crash, but somehow it did. It started out as a normal day. Little did I know that this ordinary day would turn out to be one of America's most memorable plane crashes. It was Thursday, normally I would be heading to work, but today the President had called 12 of us in to meet him. We boarded the plane, and I got seated next to the media director. Her job was to censor all of the media that gets broadcasted throughout America. Liftoff was like the definition of perfect, but about halfway through we turned off course.
Why spend money that is really needed for other things? Why live uncomfortably? Why be trapped in this hole called a home that belongs to another person? Why not live free and peacefully? When a person rents he or she usually throws away money that could be used to purchase something that belongs to them. Money is not easy to come by so why pay out hundreds toward something that is not benefit to the person paying it out. There is no good explanation for making a decision like this. The best option in a situation like this is to buy a house. Buying a house is a better option than renting an apartment.

George Orwell wrote in his novel, 1984, that ‘Big Brother is Watching You’ to warn the generations of the future of what their world could become. Orwell warned people of the threat that a totalitarian government with mass surveillance could place on people and their rights. Even 67 years later, the message still rings true as the American public is constantly watched through surveillance, either by internet companies or by the government themselves. The “Big Brother” of modern times is our government, watching over the public and taking away our privacy rights under the guise of safety. The surveillance of the status quo should be decreased to limit the rights violations that are becoming increasingly common.
Thousands of rescuers di per year because they are trying to save a person from a dangerous situation that they got themselves into. They try to save people that get themselves stuck in a burning building, people that are drowning because they got themselves stuck in the current of the ocean, or even people that are being reckless on and fall into the crevice of a mountain. Shouldn’t rescuers save themselves instead of paying the price of a careless act of a person? Rescuers put their lives in crisis to save people from dangerous situations when there isn’t even a 100% possibility of them being saved. Services should not be provided to people because climbers are old enough and responsible enough to know what they are getting into, rescue equipment isn’t alway reliable, and because innocent rescuers are putting their lives at risk to save other people.
Courage and curiosity often lead a man to success. At age seventeen, a young man was driven by a vision to thrive in a foreign country with little money, a big heart and ambition to become the difference in his family. In Mexican culture, the United States is often idolized and “little Benjy,” was raised believing that he had no other option for survival other than earning dollars instead of pesos. Due to poverty, youth and no high status, Benjamin was not eligible for a VISA in the United States. He sold the only valuable possessions he had to be crossed in the Sonoran desert. Twenty four years later, Benjamin is the owner of a construction company, homeowner of a middle class property, owner of 5 vehicles, and a proud father of five. Despite, his illegal status Benjamin is an honorable worker, he pays his taxes, and is currently in the process of becoming a resident.
Parents always put their children first, most of the things parents do are for the sakes of their children. Whether to flee and cross the border into another country, it is for their children; and in this case we’ll use Mexico and the border between the United States as an example. Women are almost always put in charge of children no matter the situation. The struggles of immigrant parents suffer and are willing to do anything for their children to live; as well as being children willing to do anything to see and live with their parents if they crossed the border leaving them behind for example. Continuing with that example the parents will leave their country to make more than they would, in their home so it's enough to support their family. No one wants to volunteeringly leave their home, unless it is made almost impossible to live even live there. Children need their parents and as that desire grows, so does the chance of those children crossing the border too, to see their parents.
“The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your destiny; and the procedure; the process is its own reward.” (Amelia Earhart) When we obtain of what is right, we must be prepared to face resilient opposition when we select to pursue what is right. Additionally, we must collectively make sure we are constructing correct decisions for the appropriate causes. Consequently, we must build the right choice in order to glorify God, rather than ourselves. General James Longstreet was unequivocally unsuccessful in manufacturing the right moral option. He did, however, follow his commander’s orders, in turn, abandoning his men in the meantime. Longstreet dreamed of capturing the altitude advantage and end the war swiftly. “I wish we could take the hill. Could flood right on over it and end the war, wipe them all away in one great motion. But we can't. No matter how much I wish...or trust in God…” (Page 201) Likewise, this brings us to my first point.
Read Write Discover (RWD) is a free literacy tutoring program that targets students with the greatest need. In San Jose, these students have language barriers; they speak Vietnamese, Spanish, and Mandarin. As coordinator, I recruited bilingual tutors to fill these needs and assumed that my role in day-to-day tutoring ended there. I was wrong.
