Italy is one of the most beautiful countries in the world but unfortunately it is the nation that has the most number of “baby” smokers in Europe. Many teens in Italy start to smoke because they want to feel like adults or they want to show off infront of their friends. We must also say that in Italy smoking is more of a social thing too; for example when you want to hang out with a friend, sometimes you ask if he or she wants to smoke a cigaret in company. I tried my first cigarette when I was only 15 years old and looking back at it now I regret it so much. My best friend at that time, offered me a cigaret and the ignorant and immature me did not want to refuse it and appear a loser in front of all my other friends. That, unfortunately, become the first of many and many other cigarettes. It was not until 17 that I got addicted and dependent from smoking, after having heard a false myth about how cigarettes make you lose weight in a blink of an eye. At first smoking was like a game, trying to feel adults and going against what my parents were telling me and then I became so addicted to cigarettes that I am still here those days struggling to get out of this bad habit, that was just harming my health.
One of the biggest problems in my life that I am still working today after almost two years in trying, it is to quit smoking. I am so addicted to the smell, the taste and the action of bringing the cigarette to my mouth that it seems almost impossible for me to get out of this bad habit. The biggest reason why I am so determined in trying to put to an end on my smoking addiction is because it causes harm to my health, both physically and mentally. A cigarette contains a pretty high number of substances that are harmful to our body. The adverse effects of these substances can lead to tumor, strokes and heart attacks, a decrease in oxygenation of tissues, carcinogenicity. This are only some of the many negative effects that cigarettes have on our body. Carbon monoxide is in my opinion the most dangerous of the substance that composes a cigarette. Carbon monoxide is a very toxic gas that borns from the combustion of nicotine and adversely affects the transport of oxygen though my body, which is why I sometimes
Drifting tobacco smoke can trigger asthma attacks, bronchial infections, and other serious health problems in nonsmokers. For the 100 million Americans who have asthma, chronic bronchitis, chronic sinusitis, emphysema, or other breathing related conditions, it makes them especially susceptible to secondhand tobacco smoke.
Is smoking a cigarette like aiming a smoking gun to your head? Absolutely, yes! The photo above, has a very powerful message to be shared with people all over the world. The creator of the picture above is, The American Cancer Society. This is an organization that is trying to heighten awareness of the dangers of smoking, the most threatening danger being, cancer. They also promote relays which help raise money for ads and research. The money raised helps to inform people of the dangers smoking and what the negative outcomes of such a habit. This society also helps with finding treatment options. They are helping people cope with the side effects of various cancers or to advise on health insurance. A certain population of people, particularly young people, see smoking as a cool or hip idea to fit in. The goal of this visual argument is to inform people who smoke cigarettes that they should just hold a gun to their heads. The American people should be against nonsmoking because of the feelings you get when smoking, the chemicals that are involved, and how the cigarette will kill like a loaded gun.
Many people start this habit because of peer pressure, family issues, anxiety and depression. Everyone knows that smoking causes cancer and it can shorten your life by 15 years or more. The smoking issue starts from the first tobacco use of the smoker. Almost 90% of adult smoker have tried their first cigarette before the age of 18. At present, one of five children have tried to smoke or vape and 30% of them have smoking-related illness in their later life. Nicotine is a highly addictive drug and an important component of tobacco. Teenagers are exposed to nicotine, not only affecting their brain development, but also making them quit smoking more difficultly. Long term smoking from adolescents seriously affects the health of smokers.
Smoking tobacco is probably one of the worst habits humankind has developed. Originating as a tradition of the Native Americans, practiced mostly on special occasions, smoking has gradually become a kind of mass addiction. Due to the efforts of tobacco companies seeking to increase their sales, people started smoking more and more often; the evolution of a more traditional pipe to a cigarette took some time, but eventually tobacco became more affordable and easier to use (you now simply need to light it up, instead of having to always carry a tobacco pouch, stuff a pipe, puff it, and so on). As a result, deaths and health issues connected to tobacco consumption became a worldwide
Smoking kills. Smoking can cause cancer and other bad diseases. Also, companies have made cigarettes in different flavors which are worse than regular cigarettes. People who smoke can be addicted. If you try to stop smoking cold turkey, it will give you headaches and stomachaches. I wanted to research this topic because I have some really close friends and they have family that smoke. Their great-grandpa died from smoking. Also, I noticed a lot of people are dying because they made the bad decision to smoke. Some people started to smoke when they were teenagers. They got addicted to it, and now they can’t stop smoking. I wanted to try to find a way people who smoke can stop. How can countries solve and stop smoking? This problem can be solved and it will be solved because countries are starting to ban smoking from certain places.
Around 80,000 to 100,000 children worldwide start smoking every day, and almost half of those children live in Asia. It's estimated that nearly 4.5 million United States youth are smokers, and if this current pattern persists, about 6.4 tobacco-using children will die prematurely from a smoking-related disease. From those 80,000 to 100,000 children about 50% of them will continue smoking for another decade or two. These kids help make up the 90% of smokers that started before age 21. The youth that has and will start smoking will have a harder time quitting, just as long-time smokers.
On every cigarette package the surgeon general clearly warns the public of health risks involved with smoking (Marlboro), yet people still decide to smoke. Jennifer is one of those people. What appeal do cigarettes have that cause people to ignore this very important warning? It is also publicly known how addicting smoking is. Why do people decide to chain themselves to this dangerous habit, and more importantly, how can these chains be broken? People try quitting every day. Some are successful, some are not. Jennifer is also one of these people who want to quit. With hopes of realizing why she decided to start smoking, why she continues to smoke, and the real risks involved in her and her family’s lives, she hopes to find a solution to help her break the chains of smoking for good.

In many cases, there are smokers who decide to stop smoking and change their lives for the better. An example is David Sturges, who is an attorney and lung cancer survivor. In 2002 David had been diagnosed with a small, malignant tumor in the lower lobe of his right lung-lung cancer. David was fortunate enough to undergo surgery and through his hard journey of recovery survived. Throughout his journey, David recognized that lung cancer is a branch of cancer research and is now traveling the world informing schools, organizations about the suffering f of lung cancer. He travels to schools, conferences, and workshops talking about how smoking challenged his life and raises funds for development in lung cancer research. This is just how one life changing surgery can help one man influence many. (Lung Cancer Foundation of America, 2016)
Anti-smoking campaigns have been around since the 1960s because the dangers of smoking became more relevant and was brought to the public. This ultimately created controversy among all Americans. Actions brought forth by the government were very beneficial, but has not come close to completely ending smoking. The visual image seen on the first page of this document conveys the argument that smoking cigarettes, or any type of tobacco, will have a declining effect on one’s future by limiting their life expectancy. Although there is no clear location of where and when the image was produced, one might believe that it was found in a magazine. The purpose of this visual is that smoking will eventually kill a consistent consumer. The image is made by an anti-smoking advertisement who used a very dramatic format which will be able to impact people on a more emotional level. The development of the image is to scare and intimidate not only people who are starting to smoke but also existing smokers. Also, nonsmokers want the smokers they know to quit because they care about their well-being. This advertisement was also created for the clear purpose that the leaders of the community don’t want these products, that have been proven to be detrimental to citizens’ health, to be used.
At some point in life, almost every person has heard phrases that sound something like, “smoking kills” or “be smart, don’t start”. For most people, these words go in one ear and out the other, but they would still agree with the statements if they were asked to share their opinion. People react this way because the awareness about tobacco being deadly has spread.
Smoking is a plague to a plethora of individuals. Despite the numerous anti-smoking campaigns held all over the country, we have seen the number of smokers decline in a prolong rate. Even though, millions of ex-smokers surrendered to the temptation and continued with their atrocious habit—feeling depressed since they're not mentally stable. Naturally, the query ascends: how plausible is it to quit with a horrible addiction like smoking? The simple answer to this question is “Yes” only if the person has a strong will and courage.
Did you know that 20% of adult’s smoke cigarettes in the United States and every year more than 480,000 people die from tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke, making it the leading cause of preventable death in this country? (CDC, 2017) How many of those people do you think have children? Second-hand smoke is just as dangerous as lighting up according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. It causes numerous health problems in infants and children, including more frequent and severe asthma attacks, respiratory infections, ear infections, and sudden infant death syndrome. (CDC, 2017) Anti-smoking advertisements began in 1998 as part of a 206-billion-dollar settlement. Major tobacco companies, including Philip Morris USA, R. J. Reynolds, Brown & Williamson, and Lorillard, were to pay for anti-smoking ads due to a lawsuit from 46 states. The states filed a lawsuit against the major tobacco companies for Medicaid and costs incurred while treating the sick and dying cigarette smokers. (Public Health Law Center, 2015) In 2012, the federal government took on an effort to attack the nation’s tobacco addiction with a series of advertisements highlighting the grisly toll of smoking. (Harris, 2017) You have probably noticed one of these ads. In one TV ad, a woman who has a hole in her neck and barely any hair on her head after suffering head and neck cancer. (Harris, 2017)
In the US alone nearly 258 billion cigarettes were sold in 2016. While advertizing that cigarettes are hazardous to your health, smoking has only gone down about 10% since 1997. Tobacco is a drug and it should be treated like one. If a doctor has not prescribed it, it should be considered drug abuse and illegal. Like many other drugs, smoking hurts the user. However, smoking is not only hurting the user, it is also hurting the people around them. In addition to banning tobacco, the entire production of it should be banned as well.
