What a woman chooses to do with her own body is her business. When a woman chooses to get an abortion, she should have the right to do so. This procedure is between her and her doctor. Abortion should be legal, because there are too many things that go wrong. A women could be raped and need to get one because she doesn’t want to look at the child and doesn’t want to feel it grow, freedom of choosing what to do and how government involvement in personal decisions such as this could lead to potentially having the government deem how many children you can have or even how many pregnancies you are allowed, medical reasons for abortion, and the ability of a woman to have control of her body is critical to civil rights.

If the fetus’ right to life outweighs the mother’s right to decide what happens in and to her body, then an abortion may not be performed.

Each person, man or woman has a right to their own body. A woman has a right to dictate what happens to her own body and the right of self-preservation. Judith Jarvis Thomson stated that “Some [anti-abortionists] won’t even make an exception for a case in which continuation of the pregnancy is likely to shorten the mother’s life; they regard abortion as impermissible even to save the mother’s life” (Thomson, 2013, p. 298). These anti-abortionists renounce abortion even if it threatens the life of the woman, they see more value in the fetus than the woman.

It is a woman’s right to make decisions about her body. If she is the one that undergoes the stress that comes with childbirth, then it should be her right to ,and her right alone to decide whether or not she wants to go through it or not. Not doing so would violate her right to freedom of choice, as well as lead to unsafe abortions that could harm the mother (Nair, 2010). Another question is how could you kill a fetus or embryo when it is the same as a human being? Which begs the question, if the fetus is alive, then so are the eggs and sperm? How do you make the distinction?

“Abortion is legal in this country until the day of birth!” Now that is something that is hard to agree with. It seems that the mothers-to-be should be able to decide within at least the first month whether or not they should have or want to have an abortion.

To clarify abortion is the termination of the fetus in the mother’s womb typically by chopping up the baby into pieces with a knife, cracking its skull and vacuuming out its brains, or with the drug RU-486. As a result, abortion is one of the most common and cruel cause of death in the United States, yet the government has legalized this practice. Moreover, there are other measures that can be taken if a women feels she needs an abortion including adoption and financial aid. Still, many people believe that women should not be given this right. They argue that the fetus growing inside her also has rights and that they should be protected.

To begin with, there has always been an extensive issue with the topic of abortion, why? Well, it’s a tough subject and can get extremely emotional and very defensive. Honestly, people just need to open up their eye’s and understand that it's murder and not just a choice. It is murder because two can create a blessing and the choice of aborting it, is more like a sacrifice for the reason a mother can’t carry a baby for nine months. Though having the option to abort the fetus may be justified as a woman’s right, we have to ask ourselves who’s right is it really? Is it the woman’s right, or is it the child’s right? The right to life for another person should always outweigh the right of an individual to control their own body. Some think that fertilization marks the emergence of a human life or a “human being” with rights. To deny a woman the right to terminate her pregnancy is akin to robbing her of any ability to make decisions about her body, her self, and her future. The woman is effectively forced, against her will, to assume an identity and a future that she normally would have avoided. There are some instances where a mother can put her child at risk even if she thinks that she is doing the best that she can. My aunt was a single parent who had three children living in a one bedroom apartment in a horrible neighborhood. Her kids were exposed to violence, drugs, and even murder which aided in their unacceptable behavior. My aunt was pregnant with her fourth child but decided to terminate the pregnancy because she did not want another child to be in that environment. If my aunt had been able to provide her kids with a safe home, then she may have decided to keep the child. It is an option that she is appreciative to have had. If she had not had that option then she would have repeated the same mistake.

There are many factors that affect the decision to receive an abortion. For this reason I felt the need to view the issue from both a pro-life and a pro-choice standpoint. I do believe in the principle that everybody should be able to make their own choice, but in the instance of taking the life of a human baby, it is a hazier subject. Most pro-life or anti-abortion people say that the government should override a woman’s decision to have an abortion in some, many, or all cases and require her to continue her pregnancy to childbirth. Those promoting pro-choice say that the government should not interfere with the woman’s decision, or should do so only under very rare circumstances. Women have the right to make decisions that have to do with their bodies. The stories behind abortion can mean more than just getting rid
