Personal Statement: Why I Don T Like Job Corps

I would like to be a part of the WSU Army ROTC program because I have a lot of potential to offer and I want to develop into a full fledged Army officer. The military path is something I have always wanted to pursue since junior year of high school. The influence of growing up in a Navy family helped shaped my decision to enlist in the Army National Guard. I was fortunate enough to be advanced from PV2 to PFC at the end of BCT on November 2016. During Initial Entry Training I realized that my goals and beliefs were aligned with beliefs such as the Army Values and LDRSHIP principles. After learning about the Army values and LDRSHIP principles, I integrated these beliefs into my everyday life as a soldier and a working student.

I really think that I am very qualified for National Junior Honor Society. I have seen students of NJHS making things for the community and I always join or support them because I think that helping others is a need, not an option. I like helping people, I like taking leadership and I would like to encourage others to change the world, that’s why I think that I am eligible for NJHS.

The food is good at times, but the reason why that they eat the food here is because they are hungry and they have nothing else to eat that they like. We have some over weighted people that needs to be on low fat diets. The diets need to consist of, grilled chicken, a baked potato, a little bowl of salad with some low fat salad dressing. The food here at Job Corps, smells so good that you can smell it outside of the cafeteria, but when you see the food then you bite into it, you will be telling your-self, “This food is nasty.”

My experience in JROTC was great. Will help me to know more about the history of US, have patriotism, self-reliance and be responsible improve the ability to communicate oral and in writing have the knowledge of team building and basic military skills

Some less attractive traits about Job Corps you might find consist of: located away from home, living with strangers, exposure to multiple complex maturity levels, false advertisement, staff inconsistency, and lack of respect on campus. Job Corps has adopted the concept that if a student is stationed at a location where they are not from, they may be able to focus more intensely on their studies. This concept is accurate to a certain degree, but what the program fells to realize

The simple reason for why I would like to serve with Americorp is because I like helping people. The more complicated reason is that I want to do something meaningful with my gap year. I could easily find a job and work for a year or intern at a company but Americorp offers me the opportunity to do something different. Americorps allows me to work with programs that have wide spread impacts and do a great deal of good. With Americorp I can do service above and beyond anything I have done so far. My previous experiences with the Conservation Corps taught me so much. Not only did it help me learn the importance of hard work, communication, and teamwork, but it opened my eyes to many other vital skills. The Conservation Corps gave me perspective. I learned to look at people not as their stereotypes, but for the individuals they were. When I was in immersed in nature, I never felt so connected to who I am. I built life long friendships, learned to trust others even when it was difficult, and found parts of myself that I’d never seen before. I want to return to the corps because other, easier, jobs wouldn’t offer me the same opportunities to grow the skills I originally learned. My Mother and Father relocated from Costa Rica to New York City where they met got married and where I was born. When I was just two years old, always wanting the best for us, my father moved our family from New York City to Jacksonville, FL in search of a better paying job and the American dream so he could provide us with a better quality of life. To ensure we were always clothed and feed, my father sacrificed everything for us and worked long hours to do so. Though I did have a pronounced, safe and active upbringing the North Florida school system didn’t expect much from the Hispanics that were starting to move to the then small town; unfortunately since my parents worked so much they expected the school system

I have been a student here at SDJCC for a year now. Since I’ve been here, the policy has always been to let students walk off center with a pass, or leave on center transportation. But since receiving the terrible news that a job corps student, who was a minor, was killed in Florida, minor students at all job corps centers are not allowed are not allowed to walk off center at any time, not even on the weekends unless someone comes to pick you up. I’m a minor and this is of great concern to me.

This job also gives me a chance to impact the lives of the campers I am working with. I am doing this by helping them have the experiences and memories every child deserves. They are learning social behaviors and how to interact and build relationships. This camp gives these kids a sense of normalcy and fun. I have built relationships with children who had started off not liking me but by the end of a week of camp they are comfortable and have fun with me. They know they will always have a place at Camp Munroe and I love being a part of that experience for

Joining the military was astonishing in very many aspects in my life and it truly molded me into who I am today. I will genuinely say that the most important people in my life are my mother and father. I am not a parent myself but I have had years to only imagine how tough parenting can be; especially when raising three stubborn boys. My mother and father are very open minded and kind hearted to everyone regardless of who they are. I will be honest here and say that I may not have been as grateful as I should have been when I was a younger kid, but that’s just life. When you are younger, everything is very simple and do not realize the little things in life. I had no other worries except for, “What’s for dinner?”. The military made me realize how much I appreciated and very much needed my loved ones. Travelling far away to Marine Corps Recruiting Depot, San Diego California and starting my very own journey was one of the toughest decisions at that time to make for myself.

In Starkville Mississippi, and across many different Mississippi towns and cities, there are many schools consolidating and students moving from one school to another. Also, many schools are being shut down because of the consolidation. Many of these schools were poorer schools that taught students were are more socio-economically disadvantaged. While the rate of drop outs aren’t as high as it has been in the past, many of these students are deemed harder to teach because they do not have the same resources as middle and upper class students and because they tend to act out in school more. This may lead to some officials and schools misusing a Cooperative Occupation program or Work-School program. While it could benefit many of the youth in
